1994 & 1996 Champion 710A Motor Graders - New York City Sanitation

Something a little different. These were my favorite machines used in Freshkills Landfill. They were used to maintain haul roads all around the landfill. In winter they managed ice prone areas in the low lying parts of the landfill. In bad winter storms they would get taken out on public roads to plow snow. They were a sight to see on city streets. These were the only machines that I have witnessed, that never got stuck in snow. In the blizzard of 1996 they were taken into the borough of Queens to open up streets and highways that got buried under 25 inches of snow (63.5 cm of snow).

The 1994 models have the white reflective stripe painted on them. The 1996 models were blue with reflective tape. They had eight in total, four from 1994 and four from 1996. They had very loud Cummins 6BT 5.9 Engines, you heard them before you saw them. They normally had dozer blades attached to the front, they also had V-plows that could be hooked up on the front mounts as well.
