Something different - New York City Sanitation CCC Integrated Rear Loader

Recommended Posts

I had heard (I think from Glenn Akers) that their differentials were highly sought after  the trucks were scrapped. They were Eaton double reduction (2 spds locked in low). 2 spd tandems aren't easy to find used anymore.  Easy to convert to 2 spd  for heavy haul.

Years back, I used to bring the "bridge mix (CG90) down .  I don't ever remember noticing any of the plow equipment.  Funny what you never paid attention to 30 some years ago (lol)    All these trucks with plows..... where would you push snow to in The City ?

I ordered my '21 Peterbilt with 2 speeds.  They seemed to think I was nuts at the dealer (lol)

Yeah, I love the DT's I put in my Marmon to replace the DS's . A little more upfront but make the truck. I never bought new so was always up grading as I went along.

I did order one trailer on "spokes" the dealer tried to talk me into something on the lot, talked alot about "re-sale", I told him the scrap man pays the same regardless, so I want what I want!

I'd rather have a properly spec'd ratio  2spd axle and a 13 trans than an 18 or 6X4 for heavy work. 6x4 has a slight advantage on ratio spread, but it has the drawback of putting all the multiplied torque through the driveshaft.

Exactly.  Highest was  3.70/5.04   I used a gay FRO cause it was all I could get. Did my reduction on the axle.  Couldn't see any way to take advantage of the engine and get it through soft ground loaded .   I like it, works pretty good.

I bought used (cores) and re ratio'd to 4.11 (5.56?) I don't remember the low ratio off the top of my head, but went from 3.90's single speeds, and the fuel economy jumped nearly 1 mpg. I've got a 15 O/D in front of them, which is not the ideal match. If I was still running it, I would put a late model 13 in front. Sure wish I had all that reduction when I moved my heaviest loads.

They bury the cars parked on the side of the street😆 They used to have snow blowers that would remove the snow banks but guys were taking in cars with them.

They were very good in the snow. I remember them being geared low and having a Y-Shifter.

The Y shifter was unique to the NYC spec trucks, because they were dual steer, the shifter sat in between the seats and could be moved to either side to be shifted. It was shaped like a Y
