I would like to thank the admins for accepting me into the group as well. I am a former operating engineer for New York City and have a passion for trucks and equipment my entire life. I grew up around a lot of the city agency trucks and equipment and have many pictures and info I would love to share with everyone as well as learn from everyone in the forums. I will make my first post about a unique set of Mack RD 800's used by NYC Sanitation. DSNY had 52 of these trucks ordered in two separate batches, one batch was a smaller set of very heavy trucks used in the various landfills around the city. These trucks had a heavy Braden winch (typically used on cranes) mounted onto the frame of the truck behind the cab, they were used for equipment recovery on active landfill cells. In snow storms they would get taken out to tow snow melters around the city. tjc transport Posted July 9 Share Posted July 9 i remember those beasts!! i was with the company that rebuilt the waterfront unloading pads and built the truck wash garage on Victory Bvd side back in the late 80's did not know they were cat powered though. welcome to the forums Anthony. 1 Quote when you are up to your armpits in alligators, it is hard to remember you only came in to drain the swamp.. I reached out to mack to see if they have pictures of these trucks getting built at the factory. That is very cool! I have videos of the cranes on those pads unloading barges. They were 425 hp if i remember correctly. I was told because of the automatic transmission, that full 425 hp was not making it to the wheels, it was a quirk these trucks had. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
