Popular Post fjh 751
So We received a New Anthem to PDI this Week, So while doing the check over We notice ! Hey!They have removed the Air governor It is no longer on the fire wall were they have been mounted for the last 20 years! Hmmm, went on the the search for the little guy! Yup no where to be found , so we had the parts guy look up the air drier as this seemed to be the only place it could be . Sure enough the governor Is Now built into the Air Drier ! Grrrrreat ! Now when you have issues with compressor build and the like, there is now no cheap way to check anything !We looked at the price for this fine piece of equipment ! Only 1700 dollars !The cartridge A bargain At 300 bucks Never priced the Little governor piece However you can bet It will be Cheap🤑 and easy to find😨! Makes me wonder Why We have to over complicate the simple ! That being said It Likely comes down to captivation or The Fact the air on these newer units need Air to be dri to run the M trans and And the emissions components, this unit may be more efficient in someones mind ! However I can't see the savings in removing a ten dollar valve and 8 feet of plastic tube and replacing it with a 1700 dollar piece of crap that will likely Fail in three years Cause no one can afford the cartridge every year! Again I don't no the specifics on this unit It may be the best thing since sliced bread when dring air, However guess its going to be tested on our next truck sale! Still looking on the internet to see which company is selling this unit. and what Its selling features are compared to the older wabco or bendix units! will post it when I find it! SO I managed to find this unit it is called a SYSTEM SAVER HP AIR DRYER Didn't realize there were others out there, possibly worse. possibly better who knows anyway We will see how resilient it is in a couple of years! Check it out here https://f01.justanswer.com/diesel3153/c9883f39-a857-4660-8748-c053bac5015b_Wabco_dryer_info.pdf 🙄 IF IT AIN'T BROKE FIX IT ANYWAY! 😡 Edited January 24 by fjh
storkmack 746
The governor has been on the firewall way longer than 20 years. Edited January 24 by storkmack
85snowdog 739
Just wanted to be clear. I didn't like this post because I thought this was a good idea. I just find it very interesting how everything today has to become so complicated . I spoke with a person yesterday that is sending their new trucks to the auction and rebuilding their older trucks. 1 Quote Keith

My Feelings Are the same AS yours! Hence the reason to post it! I appreciate the like However, Just putting it out there to show everyone where the Industry is heading. If That were not evident already ! Just Adding insult to injury with this new stuff Yup putting the governor on the air drier is fine! KW has been doing it for ever But they use the same 40/50 year old governor > Cheap! This new thing not so much! If you were smart enough to have not traded your old units in your in good shape ! However There are places now that Won't allow old rigs on the claim , trying to be or pretending to be environmentally Conscious ! Keeps the banks and the truck industry happy and the guy tring to make a living Broke! VOLVO TRASH Edited January 24 by fjh
Popular Post Vmac3 63
Hey F you forgot about the clutch actuated air compressor . I have no idea as to why they made these changes. But a clutch actuated water pump and air compressor I get, they figure they will reduce emissions by .001% per truck and with the thousands of trucks out there it may make a change in reducing emissions. But the catch is how much will it cost to replace? How many owner operators have gone bankrupt because the excessive cost of repairs because of emissions related failures? Ive known a few and thats a few too many. V 3
Popular Post fjh 751
Oh Buddy! Don"t get me goin didn't forget about it ! This truck is equipped with the teck water pump But not the compressor disconnect Odviously Cause IM sure that unit will include its Own Fricking module and Some Tecky relay to run the dam thing! And For Sure absolutely no Air Governor! Just some fiber optic Cable to magically turn it on or something! 😂And as a Maintenance Task you will need to replace clutch packs every three years or something! See Ya got me Going ! Stop now 🥵 f 1
Mackpro 417
Last I heard they did discontinue the clutched air compressor but the on/off water pump is still an option and maybe standard now. Our 2018 and 2019 do not have the on/off water pump but our 2020.5 has it . Also our 2020.5 has the air governor in the air compressor. Back in the ASET days we had a fleet of CXN tanker trucks with the same air drier/air governor set up. Our 2020.5 trucks also have 2 oil filters instead of 3 and also no fuel return line coming off the head. They did away with the electric fuel pressure valve on the fuel rail . This was a common issue as all our common rail engine trucks have had them and the harness replaced .

Thanx for the update on the botched ideas floating about ! Ahh so that drier may not be committed to as a standard issue !? We have had to convert several trucks to twin cyl compressors due to the hi air draw of the /M trans in certain work environments, In these cases the sales poeple need to change the specs when ordering vocational ! Amazingly enough, The (common Rail ) engines have been relatively OK and almost problem Free so far here ! The main issues are usually Emissions or wiring issues due to our environment Salt brine on the roads and so dollar store lighting issues, That go along with newly Untested VOLVO LIKE parts bought thru whom ever supplies things! Because we live in a wet climate air drier cartridges need to be changed Often to protect The temperamental HI module and reg or you end up replacing them like cord wood! Don't imagine its any different In KW or PETE land!
topo 33
What will they reinvent next The electric switch it turns something on or off it needs a price cap of no more then 4 bucks no mater what it turns on or off or how it dose it .

Don't imagine its any different In KW or PETE land! Some of our common rail engines are now over 200,000 miles and still trouble free ( all MP8) other than the fuel rail valve and pressure sensor, there are CBR bulletins on replacing them with upgrade parts and also replacing both under valve cover injector harnesses. However we still have issues with random things. Our biggest issues right now are the Mack inter wheel locks blowing apart . I wish we would order them with the inter-axle air power divider only. Also our Mack T-310 trans seem to really like to go back the dealership for hi/low synchro replacement every 18-24 months. Our last 3 new trucks have the M-drive transmissions and drivers fight over who gets to drive them . I love them , less clutch’s I have to adjust. The LCM ( light control module) that was brought over from Volvo has been an adventure. A simple lighting issue is now a major pain the the butt. ABS wiring in the frame rails shorting out the rear wheel speed sensors now cause the speedometer to quit working and derate due to speedo tampering parameter on . Had three trucks in a week have this issue. Also we have found loose main ground wire on the inside of the cab at the pass through on the firewall above the throttle pedal to be the cause of many intermittent random fault codes .
