james j neiweem 772
Was watching You tube today and I saw an engine block I never saw before. They had the head off of the engine and they were cleaning the cylinder combustion space with WD 40 and scotch brite pads. The cylinders were not arranged in an I6 or v6 fashion but were staggered in the same plane. Kind of like a compact version of an I6 and v6. The mechanic had a VW shirt on. Not sure if it was a VW engine. It was a real compact design.
sbrem 19
VW W-8 or W-12 maybe? https://partsolutions.com/engineering-hall-of-fame-the-volkswagen-w-engine-and-the-bugatti-w16/
ZDB 10
Sounds like the VW VR6 2.8l 15deg engines if it was 6 cylinder.
james j neiweem 772
ZDB 15 deg sounds about right for flat deck block with staggered cylinders. Edited February 13, 2019 by james j neiweem
ZDB 10
VW used that layout to package 5 and 6 cylinders in the space designed for four transversely.
Vladislav 2,993
And they were very proud of representing it in early 90's or so. Further development allowed them to make W12 out of two VR6 blocks unified in a V. And they produced them in series. Probably continue at the time either. kscarbel2 4,734
Speaking of VW, after 51 years of use, VW completely rebuilt a woman's Beetle. .
