Lowell , Maine  around 1st week of June. Last year they raffled off a very nice 1959  B61 10 wheel dump.

Build sheet says "extra roomy cab interior" 

What are they comparing cab roominess to? A Mini Cooper? 

Never worked on an E9, are they shorter than an E6? Can't imagine them being much shorter, your only 4 1/2 pistons deep instead of 6... Maybe that's the "extra roomy cab interior" - less dogbox.

I think this has the older 866 ci V8 or about 14 liters versus the 16 liter E9. I don't know about the 'Extra roomy cab interior', but it seems the cab and hood  sits higher to accommodate the V8 with an extension on the bottom of the front of the hood and fenders to cover the gap for sitting higher.

I've had thoughts of throwing a C note into this.   Who knows?  I've thrown more money at lesser things.....

With all the horror stories of those old V8, not sure I'd trust it to go very far on its own??

There was that orange V8 F model for sale locally about 12 yrs ago.  I looked at it, really crusty, but ran.  The new owner got it home, unloaded it, and it blew up.  Ugh.

 


I just looked on their facebook site and found the pictures of the orange truck.  It seems that is the old green V8 truck that has been for sale on here numerous times in the last few years.

My 673 had popped a few bolts.

I'm sure the real problem was guys working them a touch too hard and causing issues.

Does anyone know how come this V8 U model at the Gerhart's yard don't seem to have the raised cab and extended bottom of front  hood  and fenders like other V8 models?

Thats a U615. It has the non turbo 864 V8.

Ohhh. That makes sense, I had feeling it had to do with that. I hope this particular truck gets restored. Sad to see them vandalized.

Biggest part is getting lazy on oil and filters and lugging them. Learn the power band keep them in the sweet spot even if your head says you need not down shift because your only a 100 rpm or so out of the power band. My head bolts need the up dated larger head and the torque washers under them.

Actually remove the dog house, disconnect the steering shaft a few lines and front mount bolts and jack the front of the cab up 8 to 10 inches give quite a bit of  room .

It could be comparing it to its predecessor - the B model - which would be true.

I never lugged it but who's to say the 45 yrs before me?  Mine had the small studs all the way around.

I would guess not.  One of them doesn't shift, so he keeps them in high range all the time.  Hobby dump truck.  Although he has hauled a load or two of gravel, it has no power steering or front brakes.  Old school isn't always better.
