My dads 2000 w900 with a signature isx has no emissions including an egr.

There have been diesel emissions standards since the 1980s and every truck diesel sold in the U.S. had to meet them.

Yes, I rebuilt a lot of air fuel ratio units on 3406 Cats back in the 90s, that was pretty much the extent of the emission controls on them. Quick, easy rebuild and back on the road you go.

I remember one of dad's old Mack's had a label on the turbo, it said something about noise emissions.

some of the turbos said muffling device casted into the housing. You could run a straight stack legally with them.

My 237 has "muffling device" tag on the turbo.  Being a firetruck engine I see why, as early firetrucks were typically muffler delete....ie:loud.
