Popular Post Lmackattack Posted June 17, 2017 Popular Post Share Posted June 17, 2017 I went in to a local mack dealer today. the lot was filled with brand new Volvo OTR trucks only saw one granite in the lot. polka music playing in the background I kid you not... I went inside and ordered parts. While waiting, I grabbed the 2 brochures showcasing Construction and Highway. Flipping thru them both, I noticed that the only trucks mack listed for construction are the Granite, Terra Pro and Titan.....We all know the Titan is no more and the Terra Pro is just a garbage truck. So that leaves the once leading brand for on/off road trucks with 1 model for construction. Flipping thru the Highway brochure, it shows 1 model with a option for daycab, sleeper and the Rawhide trim package....That's it.. So to sum it up mack has a offerings of 1 highway truck 1 off road truck 1 garbage truck Sad offerings these days. 3 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I guess the bottom line is Volvo does not want to get pounded in the market place by the green haired step child. Didn't want to offend any red heads. We are seeing once very popular Mack branches continue to sell out to no name companies. In return they retain status of a Mack dealer yet there is no presence of Mack to be found. Dash rattles, tons of electrical gremlins, cheap materialsand so on. My buddy has pieces of cardboard crammed in spaces all over the cab to help alleviate the squeaks and rattles. He also said, even with the vin number he can't get the right parts. There may be 2 or 3 or more choices and they don't know which one it is unless you have the part there. Teamster: Maybe disposal would be a good thing. It would have to be someone with a nationwide distributer network like Cat Deere etc. If a deal was made some of the Mack dealerships would have to be part of the deal. Calling a spade a spade, the state of Mack brand management has been bleak for years, resulting in the entire distributor body being disgusted and disillusioned. Mack has never been run right since Volvo took over. A handful of Mack veterans tried to hang in there, like Kevin Flaherty and Paul Vikner, but their hands were always tied. Denny Slagle* has been the president of Mack since 2008. For nine years, he has failed to return the Mack brand to greatness. The portfolio has never been smaller and sales are stagnant. The Mack brand ranks 6th because it is no longer competitive. Frequent job changer Jonathan Randall is a waste of time. An unqualified Stephen Roy, appointed President of North American Sales & Marketing in 2014, was quickly demoted to watching over Volvo's "uptime" unit. Paraphrasing what Zenon C.R. Hansen said in 1965, Volvo needs to dispense with its unqualified Mack brand management and get others who know something about trucks. ------------------------------------------------ Faced with a total lack of experienced leadership at Mack brand corporate, I suggest Martin Lundstedt reach out to the real North American Mack experts who actually know what's going on. I propose he orchestrate an agreement under which the “Mack Distributor Council” would run the Mack brand. The Mack Distributor Council is composed of the nation’s most savvy Mack distributor principals, people with decades of knowledge and experience. Volvo will never understand the Mack brand and its customer base in the intimate way that they do. Only the members of the Mack Distributor Council know how to unleash the value of the Mack brand. I drove a 2013 pete for a min in 2012 truck had less than 5k miles on it and it already had some squeak and rattles, i agree paccar build quality has really gone down. I do really like how the new ch's look but i think if i were to get another truck i think a 15L engine would be a requirement, im happy with the power running down the highway with my e7-460 but engine break leaves a lot to be desired and off idle tq like for getting it moving crawling out of soft ground at 100k+ i am always greater than 80k when loaded. i really don't plan on getting another truck for at least 5 years and who knows what will be offered at that time, i might even decide its time to hang it up and do something different by then. i would probably be looking at gliders if they are still offered by then. with the e-logs iv thought of getting a 99 - truck before December but everything out there im seeing looks pretty used up just put 14k into a new cam/lifters/rockers ect in this truck so i guess ill just deal with e-logs.
