Frame rails

Recommended Posts

Looking for some feedback for an 09 Granite tri-axle dump I am looking at.  Dealer states that the frame is a "thick frame"?  Anybody familiar with this terminology.  Ideally I am looking for a double frame at the least - and was wondering if a thick frame is considered a double frame nowadays?

Any advice/input would be greatly appreciated.  thanks in advance.

Yea that's the norm these days. Single 1/2" thick rail vs double frame.  If your in an area that salts the roads in winter then it's the better choice.

Although double and even triple frames are still available for the Granite, for the past couple decades the manufacturers have offered 7, 8, and 9 millimeter single rail frames as upgrades to the usual 6 mm. standard frame. For most construction trucks this is more than adequate and eliminates the problem of rust developing between the rails of a double frame.

I always ran double frames but even in my Titan I went single heavy frame. It holds up great.

The heavy single frames are also about 11.5" tall as opposed to the typical double frame height of 10.5".
