What model V8 is this?

Recommended Posts

Ok looks to be a ENDT865 according to the build sheet. Can anyone tell me about these engines? Are they any good, What sort of problems should I look for?

look at the engine no on the oil pan rail it will indicate what it is. oil pressure relief springs had a bad habit of breaking ,loosing oil pressure. head gaskets weep a bit. keep fresh good quality oil up to it with lucas or moreys as a supplement .as a hobby truck they are fine but i would never work one now

It is more than likely a 865/325hp. The gold color is Maxidyne pump settings.

Go to the upper right corner of this page and Search   865   There are pages of information on these engines here at BMT. I have a few of them as hobby engines now and would not be working one regularly.  It is the predecessor of the E9. There are few shops that know what they are these days and fewer that can work on them. Parts are hard to get and $$$. Keep it running and have fun IMHO. :thumb:

The early v8 maxidynes were hit or miss for not making it very for before needing bottom end bearings. I know of 3 of them that all needed bearings around 100-150k

2 of them were sister trucks and both needed them.

Wonder if the bearing issues was from how bad you lugged it around at low rpm?
