The Trump Administration

I’m repeatedly on record as despising the post-Ted Turner CNN. But that said, this news report actually makes sense.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CNN  /  May 26, 2017

Then-FBI Director James Comey knew that a critical piece of information relating to the investigation into Hillary Clinton's email was fake -- created by Russian intelligence -- but he feared that if it became public it would undermine the probe and the Justice Department itself, according to multiple officials with knowledge of the process.

As a result, Comey acted unilaterally last summer to publicly declare the investigation over -- without consulting then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch -- while at the same time stating that Clinton had been "extremely careless" in her handling of classified information. His press conference caused a firestorm of controversy and drew criticism from both Democrats and Republicans.

Comey's actions based on what he knew was Russian disinformation offer a stark example of the way Russian interference impacted the decisions of the highest-level US officials during the 2016 campaign.

The Washington Post reported Wednesday that this Russian intelligence was unreliable. US officials now say Comey and FBI officials actually knew early on that this intelligence was indeed false.

In fact, acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe went to Capitol Hill Thursday to push back on the notion that the FBI was duped, according to a source familiar with a meeting McCabe had with members of the Senate intelligence committee.

The Russian intelligence at issue purported to show that then-Attorney General Lynch had been compromised in the Clinton investigation. The intelligence described emails between then-Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz and a political operative suggesting that Lynch would make the FBI investigation of Clinton go away.

In classified sessions with members of Congress several months ago, Comey described those emails in the Russian claim and expressed his concern that this Russian information could "drop" and that would undermine the Clinton investigation and the Justice Department in general, according to one government official.

Still, Comey did not let on to lawmakers that there were doubts about the veracity of the intelligence, according to sources familiar with the briefings. It is unclear why Comey was not more forthcoming in a classified setting.

Sources close to Comey say he felt that it didn't matter if the information was accurate, because his big fear was that if the Russians released the information publicly, there would be no way for law enforcement and intelligence officials to discredit it without burning intelligence sources and methods. There were other factors behind Comey's decision, sources say.

In at least one classified session, Comey cited that intelligence as the primary reason he took the unusual step of publicly announcing the end of the Clinton email probe.

In that briefing, Comey did not even mention the other reason he gave in public testimony for acting independently of the Justice Department -- that Lynch was compromised because Bill Clinton boarded her plane and spoke to her during the investigation, these sources say.

There was a link to an old statement of action by communist in the congressional record.  What happened to it?  Was it edited out?  Would whoever originally put it in please get it to me!  Thanks,  Keith

Let me run this up the flag pole again and see if anyone shoots at it or is this censored by...?

Interesting late McCarthey era artifact... Too bad you guys live in the past and take it seriously.

It's not that we live in the past, it's that we did live in the past and we've seen much, of what 41chevy posted, happen.

These "communist goals" fall well into the realm of "alternative facts". For a start, there is no evidence that any communist or communists stated them. The "newpaper" quoted appears to be the written rantings of a single paranoid person and was never a proper newspaper. 41 Chevy blunders even farther into the realm of alternative facts when he attempts to assign this unproven artifact to the democratic party or progressive movements. Let the real facts speak for themselves- Communism failed and pretty much died, the Democrats are thoroughly capitalistic, and the progressive movement at most only wants to civilize "jungle capitalism" to the point that it doesn't destroy itself.

So Bernie Sanders isn't a Democrat?

Florida democratic represenative Albert S. Herlong Jr. presented, this into the Congessional Record, as a warning of how communism would destroy America.  Artifacts Hillary and Obozo took it  as a game plan for the democratic party.  Thank God we don't have Hillary continuing the Obozo's implimentation of this agenda.  The democrats have come a long way from Herlong's wise statements!  Keith

Shows how lost in the past some of you guys are... Communism has been effectively dead for 30 years now. Other than maybe Cuba and North Korea until those regimes fall, the only place you'll find communism now is in the museums, where it belongs... Along with the swastikas and confederate flags.

So I guess China is the 12,000lb pink communist elephant standing in the room that you can't see?

Wow, how stupendously, delightfully naive.  China is almost 1/5th of the world's population.  (China @ 1.5 billion vs. world population of 7.5 billion = 18.7%)  And China shows no sign of being a "failing regime."  Quite the contrary, China is ascending in terms of military, technology, and fiscal strength.

China firmly embraces capitalism, while the former Soviet Union went hard core with Karl Marx’s political theories……and the rest is history.

Interestingly, Marx was from Prussia (Germany today) and wrote his Communist Manifesto in London with another German philosopher named Friedrich Engels.

yeah they support capitalism s long as the government approves and takes most of the cream off of the top. To make them sound civilized seems short sighted.

The problems we face today exist because the people who work for a living are outnumbered by the people who vote for a living.

The government can only "give" someone what they first take from another.

China is "communist" in name only, they're actually one of the most capitalist countries.

Communism is dead in most of the world but is has been replaced by Social Democrats, The government controls or regulates most all services,Water, Food, Energy, Education, favors and promotes unions and most media is pro S.D. but they allow business and property ownership and free trade as long as they severly regulate and tax it. Here is the Britannia link  (a non reliable link as per her, probably tied to Trump)

https://www.britannica.com/topic/social-democracy

It is interesting that the January 10 Congressional record is considered fake news by her. I can only assume that Albert S. Herlong Jr was laying the ground work for fake news and Trump? Or isn't it approved revisionist history? Or a carefully faked record in the Congress' archives?

Bernie :Cheech" Sanders is not a Communist, his is a Socialist and Hillary the "President Select" is as she stated "a Progressive Democrat or PDA" . Like our little ray of doom and gloom.

Yes I want all those things. Remove all the warning labels and let natural selection run its course.

How did telling me I made up the Congressional record turn into polluted water and air, no education and slave labor? Don't forget the rest of the standard rhetoric about the children and poor illegals

Your political inexperience is showing- All kinds of crap gets read into the Congressional Record, doesn't mean it's true. And the crap in question got dumped into the federal record over half a century ago. Back then, communism was a real threat... Today, it's almost a joke. Some of you need to catch up with the times...
