This is just a guess,but I looked over this truck top to bottom when I saw it and the headliner upholstery was cut/made to fit around the Kysor "Red-Dot" rooftop A/C control box,when the truck was re-cabbed the original upholstery was installed in the new cab,so it stands to reason that would be why the rooftop A/C was re-installed? Mind you this is just a guess on my part,but makes sense to me. May have been the Kysor worked better then the factory A/C too,we put the same unit in our R-Model and it would give you an ear-ache on "High".............................................Mark

Another possibility would depend on whether or not the aftermarket sleepers had their own a/c units back then. If not, the factory a/c may not been powerful enough to sufficiently cool the bunk. The Kysor on the other hand could have a duct running to the sleeper, plus it had the advantage of being mounted on the ceiling so the cool air is going to fall naturally, needing less help from the fan.

I have that one. BigRigTees also has the Rubber Duck truck, the Moving on KW, BJ & The bear KW, the Smokey & the Bandit truck and a few others.

They had a booth at Louisville this year and in years past.

I don't know why but in my mind I always envisioned the "Phantom" truck being black with lots of chrome. Just my thoughts...

Someone told me long ago in the Phantom 309 song,Big Joe and his Mack,were based on Joe Mustang and his H model,fact or not I don't know.

I found this pic on the internet and the paint scheme looks pretty darn close to the Eckstein truck. Sorry for the poor quality. Does anyone in Central PA know this unit?

I thought it was an awesome tribute if that was the intention.

I usually try to go to spencer's truck show. It's usually the second Sunday in July at there shop in Dewart. I don't remember seeing it there. There mostly a KW shop

Spencer used to have a Mack. Found this on line,showed it to one of his drivets,who showed it to Bill Spencer.
