Speaking Of Front Axles

does any body know how to tell what front axle is in a truck?

the parts guys keep asking me for an axle part number and they say its a stamped number, this one has only 2 digits

11 thats it, the rest are casting numbers, they then ask me for a chassis number, I give them that 6/75 FR797 RS1057

gvm 56000lbs there is no other info on ID plate, no engine size or anything I need to replace the king pins and convert to ten stud wich keeps the origonal drum, I have tried both truckline stores here in perth and Mack, and another Mack specialist.

is it really that hard? cars are much easier to work on. :D

HONEST TO GOT TRUTH THER ARE MANY DIFFERENT KING PINS BUT THE MACK DEALER SHOULD BE ABLE TO NARROW IT DOWN. NOT TO MENTION IF U TAKE THEM THE KING PIN AND PARTS PERSON WORTH THEIR SALT SHOULD BE ABLE TO GO BY DIMENSON!!! THE ONLY PROBLEM I COULD POSSIBLY FORSEE FOR IS IF THEY HAVE DISCONTIUED THE KING PIN. AND HAVENT SUPERCEEDED IT. LET ME KNOW HOW IT GOES!!

I spoke to them today, they have no info on sizes, i even asked him if he wanted the part number off the stub axle, the biggest problem is the age of the truck, there computers dont date back that far, so its to hard for them to go look at the fish, most dont even know what that is

Can't they look this up with the VIN of the truck? If you don't have the complete VIN, and the truck has the original

framerails, the complete VIN should be stamped in the Pass. side rail just behind the steer axle between 2 lil

stamped Bulldogs. Funny someone mentioned the old 'fish tape' , as one of our parts guys had to go upstairs to

the 'old storage area' and look up some parts with them for a guy looking for parts for a 72 F model the other day.

I don't know if they were able to help the guy, but, the parts guy was kinda laughing about still having to use the

'old fish tapes' to look up parts.

Hello, i posted chassis number above, its to old for the spare parts boys, they are almost straight out of school.

and no id #s on front of axle, it only has casting numbers. the other two trucks do have these numbers tho.

Gleemans were great to deal with, they put me onto a group in perth who can help. may have found replcement roof skins to., will know more tomorrow. and they know what a microfish is, so i dare say i am in luck. :D

Stupid computers-that's why I don't get any parts at Advance Auto Parts. Went to the one in Appomattox once to get a battery for my lawnmower.Looked like a motorcycle battery. The guy said " I need the make, model, and serial number". I said "it's an MTD,the battery looks just like a motorcycle battery". So he threw his hands up and said "I need all the information, there's a hundred different batteries". I threw my hands up too and said "you don't have a hundred different batteries in the store!" and left, leaving a couple of items i'd picked up laying on the counter.Went right up the street to Western Auto, told the guy I needed a battery for my mower, and he went and got one off the shelf and said "does it look like this?" I said "yes-exactly".Same thing when I needed some half inch studs-a generic type item, but if you can't give them some type of vehicle to look up they don't know what you're talking about. Ran into the same situation when I stopped at the one in Dillwyn to get a low beam headlight for the Peterbilt-all the rectangular headlights are the same,I think they're 1a1 and 2a1 for low and high beam. As soon as they asked what type of vehicle it just really made me hot so I said "i'm building a spaceship in the backyard and I want to put headlights on it".The girl behind the counter didn't say anything, just went and got a head light off the shelf. I paid for it and when I was going out the door she said "good luck with your spaceship". I said "thank you".

Here's a B61 I had years ago with the FA522 front axle. Does it look similar?
