fiber glass hood

Recommended Posts

All b-models came from the factory with steel hoods and fenders. The fiber glass hoods were an aftermarket thing to lighten up the truck.

Matt is right. The glass hoods were made by Clariben. Dont know of any other makes.

I know at least one other manufacturer made glass hoods for B models and L models but cant remember the name. this has been an active topic here off and on. yours is def a Clariben hood. the hoods were an aftermarket deal to replace the worn out sheet metal. don't really know if it was much lighter than the metal hood and fenders.

Early fiberglass weighs a ton.

A tilt hood B model is easier to work on the engine than on an standard.

It doesn't cost anything to pay attention.

Another thing from what I have seen, the Clariben hood was often used on a truck that had a front end crash. A quick and easy way to repair it rather than pounding out and/or replacing all the sheet metal parts. Probably often cheaper too.

Don't remember to see any pics of B's or L's with those fiberglass front ends.
