m5040 1
I am looking to purchase a single axle and have heard about the effiecency of the older Macks, I have heard most trucks are lucky to get 5 or 6 mpg. What is the consensus and what GVWR/road speeds? Has anyone noticed a change with the ultra low sulfur fuel ?

Has anyone noticed a change with the ultra low sulfur fuel ?I have a B61 tandem axle tractor with a 300+ 13 speed with overdrive 3.87 rears i cruised around 1600 RPM bobtailing and i got 10.3 MPG, didnt think that was bad, havent heard about older engines without turbos or maxidyne engines. MACKS 251
1983 e-6 315 with a 12 speed overdrive rears are 519 or close to it, this on a 10/w dump with a lot of stop and go, 4.6 mpg. I had a 70 237 10/w dump with 450 rears and a six speed that got a least 7 mpg in stop and go.
