The stuff I recieved from Great Britain

I saw it on a model site and ordered. Because may be... one day... I'll start myself to... to start one more project.

This is 1:24 resin trans-kit. Conteins no chassis/engine. Only the cab and some accessories. The producer announces it to fit on any "Italery" American truck chassis. That chassis are particulary the same, with Cummins inside. But on my mind they have neither relation to a true Mack truck. That's why I don't want to start this project - maybe I'll make chassis parts for R and would use them for F also. Although this kit is going to be out of production and I have got it now.

I know most people here are in interest for real trucks but I want a mind of specialists.

If you look at the pictures of the cab you probably could see form mistakes. It seems to me that the angle of the upper parts of doors is too much and the line of the side water rail has extremal decrease. Originally this line has an angle but here's too much on my mind.

Some real cab mesurements required for the best answer but at least what do you think about it guys?

I have to cut the roof in the middle and put a slice of plastic in. Next fill and sand.

The windshield now is a vacuum-formed part you can see at the second shot. But it was made to fit the original opening.

Slice it down to a day cab ;)

Looks good!

They had a day cab in stock but it was discontinued. I wanted first to order 2 kits for that reason but stoped myself due to the price.

some assembly required?

Don't know what to do.

Professional scratch builder required.

To make END engine and 2-3 kinds of suspensions.

Italery makes Superliner but what the happyness from the truck that has correct hood-cab only. Front axle maybe.

I'm thinking now (last years) the only way is to work this problem completely. From the modelling point of view Macks are not so difficult when you have 4-5 cabs, 3-4 engines, pair gearboxes and Camelback plus Air ride.

Hi Vlad,

I build truck models, especiallly Macks.

Unless you want to get into a whole lot of scratchbuilding I think your best bet would be to try and get hold of an AMT R model kit. The scale is slightly smaller at 1:25 but you could adapt it to suit. With many of the smaller components, the difference would be so slight as to be unoticeable but you might have to increase the wheel track and perhaps the camel back axle spread. The engine would also come out undersized as would the wheels and tyres but you could also get an Italeri kit and use the wheels and tyres and even the cummins motor as this would have been an option in the real truck although if you are a purist you would want the Mack motor. You can often find yourself needing more than one donor kit to get all the parts you need!

I have made a set of camel back springs for a 1:24 RS700L model I am working on and I have also done resin castings of the axle gear cases from the AMT kit which I have mounted on italeri axles to create lookalike Mack axles to get over some of the scale difficulties. The springs are laser cut acrylic and I could easily knock out another pair for you if you are interested.

I agree with your observations regarding the shape of the cab. The cab sides above the 'waist' slope in too much for my liking. I'm scratchbuilding my own F series cab to do a Western F model (If I ever get that far!)

Thank you for your pair of cents.

Modelling is not too popular on BMT, it's like a small "club in the club". I know AMT R is good detailed and far true than Italery RW. Although I want to keep myself on 1:24. There are some BMW cars on my shelf and Monogramm AC Bulldog started. So I don't want to mix. At least yet. Combining 1:24 with !:25 isn't too carefull way, sometimes it could give a strange look. I also made springs but of cooper sheet but with a big deal of labour having no laser or disc saw. They're perfect, were made for AC but a front pair at the moment only. Will post them if interesting. I may note, I'm attacing with a wide front. Having one more project of L model rear bogie that is actually army NR but close to be similar. I contacted professional maquette firm and put an order. For a bogie as a beginning. They're asking money of course and work now extremely slow. It's Russia. Everything they do is 3D drowing with next frezering from plastic. And resin copieing of course. The product seems to me impressive but too long in a time.

By the word - if you're from UK, are there any left hand drive F's?

I have seen one or two at shows in the past but i don't think there are many around now. There were Right hand drive ones as well which i think were assembled in Ireland.

There were more about in the 70's and eighties but now there are few interesting trucks, just lots of Volvos, Scanias and Dafs!

Just have never seen right steering Macks although have never been to England. I need GB visa that requires many papers from me including some of I have not.
