Arute Brothers was my late great grandfathers company (James Arute) and my mother’s father was the project manager (Jim Jr). If anyone has great pics of any trucks or other equipment please send it to me, I know this post is hella old. My mom is in her 60s and she frequently Reminisces about her and her sisters climbing and trying to drive the equipment. james j neiweem Posted April 1, 2020 Share Posted April 1, 2020 Mack was strong in Ct back then. Not as much now. Those early DM 600's sure had cramped wheel bases. Although on the Gateway Terminal website I did see a new Mack Granite #68 I believe. I think Gateway has new ownership. May bee some renewed interest in Mack. Just a cab and chassis, I was told the plan for it was to restore it and add a service body to it and put it back to work. I don’t know if that ever happened. Last time I saw it working was early 90’s with a large compressor mounted to it. That was one of Arute's lowbed trucks. To answer your other question, you wouldn't have met my grandpa-he was an engineer. Supervised his own development projects and consulted with many others. I had a friend who ran a brand new Northwest 80D shovel on the 2 adjacent jobs they had on the south end of Rt 9 in Essex-Old Lyme, 1965. An old neighbor of mine (I think her name was Diane) drove truck for them when they were building the west half of 691 in the 80s.
