  1. I have a Radiator that was purchased BRAND NEW from Mack in 2004. This was a brand new core at the price of $1400.00. I built the radiator using my existing tanks which were thoroughly cleaned before installation. I parked the truck about 8 months after doing this. This is the offset forward core to accomadate a viscous fan hub, so you can change your belts without tilting the radiator forward or smashing the fins. I dont want to scrap it, but I'm tired of it sitting around. I am probably not going to build anymore Macks, so that is the reason for selling. It was in a 1977 R685ST, but I dont
  2. I have a 88 R model with a 13 speed Fuller RTOL in it. On the air shift side it will not stay in gear more than 10 seconds. The rest of the trans works well I've been running it in 12th but really need OD on the interstate.
  3. I am about to buy a R612 that needs its +3 cab replaced - the rust is beyond repair. I was only planning to buy the truck for spare parts, but now don't think I can bring myself to wreck it, so will likely restore it. It has a good 237hp with 5 speed. I am not sure what to do with the truck, but I will work that out once finished. I have access to a good pre-73 cab. Is it possible to fit a plastic dash to a pre-73 cab or is the front panel completely different? I realise there will be less room with the plastic dash, but I am dealing with that another way. I am just curious whet
  4. 1984 R685T single axle tractor EM6 250 with Mack 5 spd. & 4.00 rear ratio. The Good: Injection Pump completely rebuilt along with injectors in 2014 (no miles drive since). Have all parts to put back together (Radiator, CAC recently cleaned, and air cleaner). The truck can be started and moved under its own power. Power steering and AC (not connected), and Budd rims all the way around. Have good title. The Bad: Will need replacement steering axle (bushing wore out and oval’d the top part of the axle on drivers side only (above the king pin). Trucks runs great once started….just doesn’t l
  5. Can anyone please tell me if there is a trick to installing R Model hood badges/letters with the push on fasteners? I can't seem to get them to secure to a standard that I am satisfied with. Is there a trick to this? I have not used any double sided mounting tape. Should I? Hope someone can offer some insight. Thanks
  6. I have come across a gearbox for sale stamped TR1070B. Can anybody tell me anything about this box? Is it a single stick 12 speed? Thanks in advance
  7. When I recently bought my B-Model, it came with a NOS Hendrickson R-Model bumper that he was going to install on the B-Model, but I am not. As far as I can tell, it has not been mounted on a truck. They guy I got it from says he bought it after he got the truck, and left it in his barn for 7-8 years. All the chrome looks great, and there is a touch of surface rust on the un-chromed back side, as you can see in the picture. Looks like these sell for about $350 new. I'd be happy with $200. It's in southern RI. I do have access to a shipping dock, and if it needs to be shipped, I will pallet it,

  9. Anyone know who made the gauges generally installed in mid 80s R Models as in the attached picture? I am installing a new dash so will do the guages at the same time. Would be a lot easier if I can get new compatable versions to avoid changing fittings, senders etc. Does anyone have suggestions for where I can get some new replacements on line? Thanks

  11. Guys (& wimmins too!), Did anyone either make a dry type element for this old style air filter,or ever convert their old oil bath R model air cleaner to a dry filter? I would just replace it with a later dry type filter/housing,but do not want to lose the '60's look,if you know what I mean? Any thoughts? Thanks,Al
  12. I have never tried one of these but have heard good things. I have come across a 2 stick version and it would be good to hear some opinions on this box. Also, a few questions: Does anybody know the top gear ratio or was there more than one version? All I know so far is that it was matched to a 285 Coolpower from new. I am waiting for the model number. Is the later single stick 12 speed based on this box and, if not, is it worth waiting to find a later series single stick? How difficult would you rate this box to use as compared to a T2090/T2100. This truck is not in use every day but a driver
  13. R686 parts truck. Cab very rusty. Whole or parts. Good hood with hood scoop. No engine. Trans and rear have water damage. Lost storage. $800 OBO. Mike. Boyertown PA. More pictures available. Don't want to use up all the space.

  15. Hi, trying to clear up what the “M” stands for in an “EM” series engine. I have an “EM6” in a 1985 R Model. It is the original engine from the factory (truck assembled in Brisbane, Australia). I have been told that it may be a Maxidyne but I can’t find anything official to support that theory. It’s our first Mack so I can only compare it to other brands but the engine is unbelievable for its age and relatively low HP (it's an EM300). I thought I would be re-powering for something with more HP but am now keen to keep it and would like to understand exactly what it is. Can anyone educate me on t
  16. Hi, I need to move the position of my fuel filters on a R Model with an EM6. They originally sat off the chassis behind the front wheel but I have mounted a battery box and air tanks there as part of a complete rebuild of the truck. I have a couple of ideal spots but they are above the height of the fuel pump. Is there any reason that this could cause trouble - ie. some sort of atmospheric pressure rule regarding height and fuel travelling uphill that I am not aware of? Any input before I start fabricating brackets would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  17. Hi, I hope I can get some urgent input from those in the know. I have someone fitting a sleeper to my R Model in the next few days. The R cab is on air but the sleeper will be fixed to the chassis and connected to the cab with a rubber sock. All brackets have been made and are ready for mounting but I just want to be sure we are doing the right thing with respect to the fixed sleeper height. If the cab is propped into its operating position as if full of air (ie. level), should the cab and sleeper openings line up or should the sleeper sit slightly lower than the cab? If so, by how much? My i
  18. I had a whole weekend off work and no shows to go to so my father and I messed around with the trucks. We have been slowly moving stuff out of the yard where my father used to work. We had accumulated quite a bit there over the years. My father got this R686 quite a few years ago. It was pulled there with a Big Ben and set on its front wheels. We lifted the front end and put some tires on before dragging it out of the mud. We had hoped to drag it to a buddy's house but the rear brakes were locked up. The motor is long gone. I put batteries in the R685, checked the oil and gave the pr
  19. Can anyone tell me the whys and hows of the hood scoop you'd see on some 70's and early 80's Macks? I've seen them on U's RW's and R's.... but they seem to be not too common... what's the deal there?

  22. Does anyone know a part number for 1975 R model hood guides that bolt to the cab/firewall area and allow the hood to settle and rest on them? Someone took mine off before I bought the truck and I didn't catch it. Maybe all R model guides are the same??? I ordered a set from my local Mack dealer but they were square pieces of steel with holes in them, definately not the correct ones.
