  1. I have a DM690 1990s vintage that I would like to install larger brakes on . Currently steer axle has 16.5 x 5 Q and drives have 16.5 x 7 Q shoes. I do not want to change out brake spiders/ backers. I do not mind new drums though. I would like to go to 6 inch on the steer and 8 5/8 on drives . What pn drums should used. My trucks are unimount with 20000 steer axles and 44000 rears
  2. I have a 2005 CX Vision which was formerly a Air Products truck and it is used to pull a 2003 Timpte Hopper. I had the local Mack dealer rewire it with a replaceable pigtail instead of the hard wired one. Now my trailer ABS light on the trailer is constantly on, and the ABS trailer light on the dash is on. Timpte has checked my trailer and it is OK. They tell me the ABS is working, but the ABS lights are not working because of the truck. Mack says it is wired to spec. I know if DOT sees it I will be cited. Even though Timpte says some trucks are not compatible, I think I have a wiring problem as it was working before. How can I determine which wires are not lined up properly on the buss bar or if there a wire missing?
  3. Gentleman, I am wrapping up a front axle rebuild on my 53 L Model . I was wondering if anyone had or knew the torque spec for the front spindle bearing nut OR an accepted procedure for tightening them. Typically I used to torque them to 200 ft lbs then back off 1 full turn and torque to 50lbs (all while rotating the wheel). Any thoughts or recommendations appreciated!
  4. Hey Folks, New to the forum. Looking for some suggestions. I am currently rebuilding my front axle brakes (hydraulic) and stripping and repainting my front hubs and drums. I was looking for some info and advice regarding a suggested grease to use to repack the hubs and bearings. The grease I removed was failry heavy and I was wondering if it needs that kind of viscosity or if a modern high speed red bearing grease would do. My main concern is that too thin of a grease may seep past the wheel seals and end up in the drum creating the exact same problem I am attempting to fix. Second question is, does anyone know the torque spec for the spindle nuts for the front bearings. I checked all my paperwork I have and don't see anything. I typically always used to seat the bearings in and then back off until the hub spun without too much drag and then set the lock nut and tab. Thanks for any suggestions.............
  5. Good morning to all! I am new on this site so please bare with me. I pride myself on doing some upfront homework on a truck before I purchase one however this time I may have failed. Not having a bigger truck before, I purchase this old bucket truck without my proper homework and now I may have a real bastard. So here I am trying to make the best of it. This is a 1980 Mack MS200P with a Hi Ranger bucket lift. The lift, hydraulics, hoses, cables, etc. all seem to work fine. As far as the truck, it mostly works fine. Yes,it burns and throws a little oil but to be expected at this age. My concern is this...somewhere in the past years the rear back brake must have been too expensive to repair so someone just removed all the brake parts and soldered the brakes lines closed to that area. The other three wheels and brakes work fine. I'm thinking that because of all of this, the emergency brake does not work. I would at least like to get the emergency brake to work on the left wheel. Does anyone have a good site that I could look over to see how the emergency brake set up works and what I can check from here? Thank you
