OK I have a 2003 Mack vision with 450000 or so. It is a septic pumper and in great shape(was) Its been running fine and never had any problems and serviced by Mack. Yesterday I blew a coolant line to the fuel processor and since Mack didnt have the line I went to Napa and had a line made. Stranded on the road I disconected the line from the pump and routed it to the manifold and bypassed the processor. Drove it home and parked it. I get in it this morning and it fires up sputters and shuts off. I replaced the filter and re-install the lines to the fuel processor and nothing. It will puff light smoke but will not start. Was bypassing the processor a bad Idea? It still builds up a little preassure but not making it to the injectors. I have mechanical experiance but limited diesle. Squirt fuel into the breather and starts fine but wont stay running

Dumping Rear Air System For Unloading
slopoke replied to slopoke's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
If it doese I have not found it and I had the truck for a year. I added the load gauge and havent found any dump valves. I have 2 SMC electric 600psi air valves that I could use. One on the bags and one on the supply in front of the automatic levelers. Flip a switch one opens one closes and BAM. But waiting for SMC to let me know if there valves are continuouse duty and capable of being supplied with electricity for a 12 hour period since they are closed valves and during normal op I need the supply line to stay open for normal driving. Might just take it to Mack and have them fix it but last time It was there The left 2 slack adjusters off and didnt tighten my wheels. -
Dumping Rear Air System For Unloading
slopoke posted a topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
i HAVE A 2003 Vision converted to a 3600 gal septic tank Hauler. I have the rear air ride and want to dump out the air when unloading so the rear discharge would be the lowest point. I thought about using 2 3/8 smc air valves one to dump the air and the other to stop the supply comming in so I dont lose main preassure. Im not sure if the smc valve are continuouse power as the one would have to stay open when the truck is moving. aslo have the trailer service supply still hooked up in cab but obviously no trailer. is there a way to work this valve to work it? not sur the best way to go but need to do it soon. Thanks Will -
Can You Disconnect The Engine Shutdown?
slopoke replied to slopoke's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
I did have the Mack dealer change a few paremeters for top speed cruise and take the idle shutdown out completely. I dont leave the truck running when out of it anymore but with the pumps running everything is better at idle. The $6000 pump runs alot cooler. -
Air Pressure Load Gauge For Air Ride
slopoke replied to slopoke's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
Empty I am reading 14k and when I get a good load around 3000 gal its 39k but its not fully loaded. The rears are 40k and not 44k like I listed earlier. I havnt found a scale locally yet but I will keep looking. I know when I load sludge on the truck it will be over weight. I never worried about it in my f-750 rated at 32k gvw but with the air ride it bothers me about being so close to weight limit or even over. -
Air Pressure Load Gauge For Air Ride
slopoke replied to slopoke's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
OK Gauge is installed and seems to work but I have a question. Doese it read only what is loaded on rears or closer to the actual weight of the truck? -
Yeah I didnt plan on the last wreck but that is why i bought a larger truck. I have had it for one week now and love it other than the gears grinding but its going tomorrow to have the clutch adjusted and the clutch break adjusted since Mack said thats the problem. Anyone know where I could get a used Visor cheap for the truck I would like to dress the truck out soon. Hey " A royal flush always beats a full house"

Air Pressure Load Gauge For Air Ride
slopoke replied to slopoke's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
I went ahead and bought it anyway since it was only $50 with the gauge line and all the fittings. Thanks -
I just came across a 2 inch air pressure gauge that reads up to 55,000 pounds and says all you do is tee it off the existing rear air ride line. I have 44,000 rears with air ride and with the 3600 gal tank pure water would be around 30,000 pounds at 8.33lb per gallon but I pump septic which contains alot of solid matter so Im sure it weighs more so I was thinking about installing one of these gauges just to watch it since no scales are close. Is it that simple just tap the rear air supply and the gauge changes with the weight?? Also what are the bags rated for on the rear? Thanks Will

I think I have read every post now and I really love the older model macks. I think I have become a MACK HEAD. I have ordered parts books and manuals to study these beasts. Thanks for letting us have a place to learn. Will

Can You Disconnect The Engine Shutdown?
slopoke replied to slopoke's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
IM NOT SURE OF THE ORIGIONAL STATE OF OWNERSHIP BUT THE UNIT WAS BUILT IN MIAMI FL FOR ME IT WAS A SLEEPER BEFORE IT WAS CONVERTED INTO A PUMPER. I USUALLY START IT IN THE MORNING AND TURN IT OFF AT NIGHT BECAUSE IM ALWAYS ON THE MOVE. I PLAN ON CALLING MACK IN THE MORNING TO HAVE THE ECU CHECKED AND SEE IF THE SPEED LIMITER CAN BE ADJUSTED AS WELL. MAXED OUT AT 66 MPH -
I PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE POSTED HERE FIRST TO INTRODUCE MYSELF. I AM 34 MARRIED WITH 2 KIDS 6 AND 11. MY WIFES PARENTS OWN A SEPTIC COMPANY ON HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC THAT WE RUN (HEARD ALL THE JOKES) WE WORK ON ALL OUR OWN EQUIPMENT AND SINCE I WRECKED MY LAST FORD PUMPER I DECIDED TO PURCHASE A LARGER TRUCK AND CAME UPON THE 2003 VISION WITH A 3600 GAL TANK AND LOVE IT SO FAR OTHER THAN THE VIBRATION BETWEEN 40-50MPH I THINK ITS BAD TIRES SINCE I HAD THEM REBALANCED TODAY. BUT ANYWAY I COLLECT TRUCK AND CAR MAUALS TO READ AND LEARN THINGS AND LOVE TO FIX THINGS THAT EVERYONE SAYS CANT BE FIXED. OTHER THAN THAT I SPELL LIKE A 4YR OLD AND WORK ALL THE TIME. THANKS WILL

Well the whole reason I bought the Mack was Three weeks ago I was loaded comming off a Island doing about 40 in my 2001 ford f-750 with a 2500 gallon tank when a guy in a 97 ford explorer fell asleep at the wheel and hit me head on and I rolled the truck. They put us both in the same ambulance and I remember the EMT telling the guy he got the Sh?! knocked out of him. and the local news headline was"Overturned truck causes stink in the lowcountry" Nothing spilled so that was good. I like the alot better.

Thanks for the feedback I will get better pics tomorrow I live in the woods so the shade doese make a difference. I was going to take some today but my wife told me she was going to pack my bags if I touched the truck at all today so I had to finish the roof on her porch. As far as the sayings Ours was at one time "Your Sh%@ is our bread and butter" and it always "SMELLS LIKE MONEY" Thanks Will Hey what about "Yesterdays Meals on Wheels"

the button doese not read anything or I would have figured that part out. The low air light actually says LOW AIR but I did find it a little low on water when I checked it this morning. and it has not gone off again and thanks to all of you for your help. I actually figured out the shifting and although I have not perfected it I am doing better. I will list a pic of it when I figure that out too. Thanks again Will

I JUST PURCHASED A USED 2003 VISION THAT WAS A SLEEPER AND CONVERTED TO DAYCAB AND A 3600 GALLON SEPTIC TANK SYSTEM MOUNTED. ITS A VERY NICE RECONDITIONED 400,000 MILE TRUCK. MY PROBLEM IS THIS IS THE FIRST MACK I HAVE OWNED AND THERE IS A RED O WITH A X THROUGH IT THAT COMES ON AND BUZZES THERE IS A SWITCH ON THE DASH WITH THE SAME DESIGN ON IT. I JUST PICKED IT UP THIS MORNING IN MIAMI AND IT CAME ON 5 TIMES ON THE 8 HOUR TRIP HOME SOMETIMES FOR A MINUTE AND ONE TIME FOR 20 MIN. ALL FLUIDS ARE FINE AND ALL GAUGES ARE NORMAL BUT WITHOUT A MANUAL I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT ALL THE THINGS ARE FOR. I ALSO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE GEARS GRINDING ESPECIALLY WHEN DOWN SHIFTING IS THIS NORMAL? CLUTCH IS FINE. sORRY IF I RAMBLED ON BUT I HAVE ONLY OWNED FORD F750S AND NEVER HAD A TRUCK LIKE THIS. THANKS
