  1. Thanks for the Welcome, I love these old trucks.

    And where is Milan??

    I live in Tularosa.

Up on I-40 between Albuquerque & Gallup I live about two miles from the Petro at the 79 mile marker (Grants-Milan) worked on a paving job in Tularosa about 10 years ago, nice place. Doug

  2. Hello, and yes my real name is William B. Mack. With a last name like this, It's no wonder I'm interested in the old Mack trucks. I'm 55. but after 4 years in the Navy as a diesel mechanic, I bearly like changing my own oil. I have reciently come across some older Macks, the B series..I was looking for information about parts, and services.

I think it's about time I started looking into working on these old trucks.

If I can't pick up the truck I'm looking for, I'll turn it over to you guys.

Hi Bill, I Live in Milan NM, welcom to the group I havnt been on here for a while, but these guys are a great bunch! Doug Blevins AKA tornado 427

  3. I knew it ,

Nothing but paint and thing noone needs in a truck. The only one I saw that look like it had engine work was the 50's style Pete .

Heres the e-mail . I guess if we get enough people asking for Macks they will do a Vision or a Ch 613 maybe.

I was really disappointed when I watched the shows, they do great paint and body work, but nothing to the the drive train! I contacted the guys at 4 states, and chrome shop mafia and was told that all the episodes for this season were in the can, and if the show is not a big hit there wont be any more next season. by the lackluster response so far I dont think they will be doing any more. I mean who needs a waterfall in thier sleeper? I would rather have them build a 600+ hp drive train than a flashy paint job any day!! Doug

  4. Well first Dale it needs to run 170-180 water temp to boil off any contaminits in the oil and 160 oil won't hurt either for the same reason. Also combustion and fuel ecomey will be better at 180. You are not doing a diesel any favors running it too cool.

Trent : If you are running a 750 Luberfiner you will find it holds near 3 gallons of oil by it's self. I'm running 2 750s in paralel for extra cooling here in AZ as KW put the one in the battery box out of the air flow.

John, I moved the luberfiner on my KW out of the battery box to the side of the cab, then I mounted a fuel filter, heater, water seperator where the old luberfiner was worked out real good, Doug
  5. Im not shure what model it is but it looks like all the other filters that the B models have... I only filled the lube finder with a gallon because the dip stick was reading high and my hopes are when I prime the engine all the oil lines and channels will fill nd bring the oil level to normal...

    Am

I correct in thinking that the lube finder is full of oil when the engine is running.?? Will the oil seap back into the crank case when you turn it off??reason I ask is that I see a little bleed nut on the bottom to drain it. im assuming this is for draining the housing for filter changes.??

    Trent

Trent, dont forget to bleed the air out of the luberfiner when you prime it! just back off the top plug a few threads and wiggle it around to let the air out as the engine is running. just dont back the threads out too much, as cause when the air is all gone the oil will pressure up real fast and blow the plug too parts unknown LOL, I did that on a KW one time when I worked in the truck shop at CTI, made a pretty good mess, tried to hold my finger on the hole, but couldnt reach the shut off switch, had to let go sprayed oil every where!! Doug

  6. I always wondered the same thing...why truck MFG let the wire ends live in the exposed weather conditions. even the R models have the main cab junction block on the fire wall ON THE OUTSIDE!!!!???

However I am surprised how long they last! My B model had lots of spliced wires but the ends were fine. the only problem I found on the ends were when I tried to remove them from the studs..and the studs were corroded or just would spinn in the jct block.  They make a junction block with a rubber grommet and a cover with a rubber seal. I saw one on the internet for hot rodders and want to get a few for both the R and  B model

if there is a trailer supply place close utility etc. they should have what you need at a pretty good price. I buy lots of stuff from Utility, air, elec, and load securement they are usually well stocked with just about anything you need and cost less than the truck dealers :thumb: Doug
  7. good to hear Andy :thumb:

get some pics for us when she gets home!

I live in a town home and cant keep my 2 trucks in the driveway. luckly my part time job is only 3 miles from me and I keep both rigs there for "free"in exchange for a a few day/nights work each month

:) I am really lucky, I live just outside city limits, close to town but still county zoning, I have an acre of land and park all my stuff right in my back yard! even when I was hauling fuel I would pull in the circle drive and park then only 15 - 20 feet to back door of the house, have a nice big work area where I can get winch truck, fork lift etc. around to move heavy stuff. only one neighbor with in a couple 100 yards, and they dont mind at all. hope things stay as they are but some day I might have to deal with city limits expanding then I will have to deal with zoning  they are pretty relaxed around here, friend of mine parks his tanker at his house, and he lives in a residental area, go figure  Doug

  8. Here is a link to a canadian mack truck dealer offering a wrecked CL613 with an E9 500. They are located in Kamloops, BC.  They even have a CL613 with an E9 500 and a Superliner with a E9 500. You could start there for parts.

:D ever been to Kamloops? I Have, DONT GO IN THE MIDDLE OF JANUARY!!! froze my %&* off! -40 during the day, air was so cold it hurt my lungs just breathing it  . beautiful country, wouldnt mind going up there again, but would rather go in summer. loaded lumber there got my metric conversion wrong, had fun at the border had to re arange the load to get axels legal, thank goodness I burned enough fuel to get me just under gross, had to dodge scales all the way to LA, real fun trip! :D Doug

  9. I have heard that truckers are gonna park their rigs when diesel hits $3.00 p/g.  Anyone else heard this, or what are your thoughts on this?

Hey Barry, its been tried before with nothing good comming out of it. the main problem is that there are too many drivers out there that cant afford to shut down. they might be paying more for fuel, and making less money, but as long as the big companys keep rolling, most owner operators will also just to keep up. it really sounds like a good idea, but as long as there is freight to haul some one will haul it dirt cheap just to make what little money they can, they figure a little is better than none. luckily for me the company I am leased to has a good fuel surcharge program to where I average $1.35 to $1.50 per gallon. with out that I wouldnt be able to afford to stay running. Doug :(
  10. releases some oil from the rocker gear and limits the stroke of the valve timing, a block of wood on a chain dragging on the road is about as efficent sometimes. nigel :chili:

:D back in mid 80's I drove a superliner while my truck was in the shop, it had a "dynatard" I was used to the jakes on my big cummins motor and the first time I hit the switch on the dynatard I thought I might as well turn around and point my ass out the window and fart against the wind, thats about how good they worked! Doug

  11. Hi, Long time reader, first time joiner. My names Mark and I'm from Sydney, Australia.

I drive a 470 CH mack for a living, but love all the old stuff, V8's, coolpowers etc ,as long as it has a bulldog on it, I don't care!

welcome, Mark! we have a pretty good bunch here, I think you will enjoy this site, Doug :thumb:

  12. I have a 1988 Mack engine tune-up specifications manaual, the torque on the E9-500 is 1660 @ 1300 RPM, the 400 is 1325 @ 1300 RPM, the 450 is 1495 @ 1300 RPM, operating RPM range is 1300-1900, i did not know you could lug them down that low, i dont know if the later 500hp had any more torque or not.            Ron

Boy howdy! all this talk about the E9, I thought it must be the biggest baddest motor ever made!......... till you posted the specs, heck my little DDEC IV makes that much horse power & torque  , I have allready up graded to the bigger turbo, now just need to scrape up the $$$ for Bruce's little black box! ( Pittsburg Power ) :chili:
  13. Pretty cool!  My other hobby is kinda sad...I am a member of the Ford Taurus Car Club!  I have a 91 LX Wagon with a 3.8L, leather, digital dash and power everything.  It won July 2005 Car of the Month because there are very few 91 Taurus wagons in mint condition like this one!  If you have a Taurus, visit us at: Taurus Car Club of America

    100_1192.jpg

I like the Taurus because it is the ultimate sleeper!  You can go 'mod' crazy with front strut tower braces, diablo tuner chips, aluminum sub frame bushings, disc brake conversions...etc.  Always something to spend money on!

Hey Barry, I have a 3.8 in my wife's mustang. I didnt really know much about them before, but now I know about all the "goodies" you can get for these such as the under hood blower kit that comes with every thing you need to put over 300 rwhp to the ground, and only sets you back about $2,000. now talk about a sleeper!!! 300 horse V6 wagon!! :chili: Doug
  14. Hey Andy! you got it backwards LOL, there were 1,463 B-62 SX's built between 1954-1958 of which mine is # 451, as for the B-833 SX there were 216 built between the years 1956-1966, all together between the X SX RSX , & ST models, mine was the 30th one built. it is in extreamly rough shape, but most all the parts are there, so I think it is wort trying to save & restore! just wish I had lots of $$$ to do it right!!, Doug :thumb::SMOKIE-LFT:

  15. I am still waiting on Alcoa and Accuride to issue quotes, both companies were interested, but now is the hurry up and wait period!  LOL

Update:  I just talked to a guy from Alcoa today...he said it would be a minimum of 500 pieces.  They would all be 22.5 tubeless.  He said price would be less if they can use the standard forging of today's wheels (instead of the doomed shape) but the overall look would be very close...what do you guys think about that?  Price and lead time coming soon!

:thumb::thumb::thumb: BARRY, YOU ARE THE MAN!!! thanks for taking over this project! I seriously doubt if any thing would have come of it if I were still trying to get it done  it would be nice to have them look as original as possible, but cost wise, the cheaper the better as long as they look pretty close to the originls :D I will have to invest in a cap gun & ski mask to appropreate the funds for purchase though, as I dont have any thing left to borrow money on!!! :chili: Doug
  16. Hope you're feeling better, Doug.  At least you got the internet to keep you busy until your back up to par!  :chili:

 kind of over did it first day out, spent all day yesterday in bed, guess the drugs that were in me when I left the hospital made me think I was super man LOL found out its better to take it easy for a while! Doug
