  1. Thanks and thanks for the tip on the batteries. I haven't put the covers on because I'm welding new fronts on them. I'll be sure to cover the batteries 'til I finish. Steve
  2. Thanks. The primer, paint, body fill, sandpaper and misc. spoiled $1000.I had to cut out and braze patches on roof, cowl and a couple of areas on winshield pinch weld. So I had a lot of time in it.This had two repaints besides factory so I spent a great deal of time sanding and removing everything I could take off.And I'm not a professional body man so it takes longer.Your truck looks sound so it wouldn't take as much prep work, but I would still do a complete repaint. Steve
  3. Thanks Mike.I'll pass on painting anything else after I get the sleeper done. I liked the blue but several of the O.O.s here have blue rides and I wanted to be different.I had vinyl gold leaf stripes made in the same pattern as what was on it before.Think that will dress it up. i sold my 60" sleeper and am putting a 42" on it. Sure like your "new' 1988 Rw. Nice truck. Steve
  4. Finished repairing and painting hood this week. Put it on truck and left them out in the cold "til after the first of the year(by orders from wife)
  5. Happy 45 Ray! Hope you enjoy many more and keep the spirit. Steve
  6. Exhaust is .024 and intake is .016
  7. I've got a single inlet dry type. I'll measure it tomorrow and give dimensions.
  8. That's an oil bath. waiting for Superdog to send a paper element canister for it.
  9. The truck is finally finished and returned to duty.It was test driven, all hoses retightened, exhaust manifold retorqued. Good to go.The shutters came from Phil at Global,Nice set, thanks Phil. I snapped a few pics before they picked it up.Truck has been kept in absolute pristine condition by the fire dept.My hat's off to them!
  10. Nice pics Pawel! Bet your next model will be a Marmon. Would like to see more. Steve
  11. I believe you're right. Steve
  12. I checked today. The serial no. is R608F 1049..The truck was delivered new to the village if Geneseo,NY early 1972.The original purchase was $36,900.I'll post more pics this week. It is complete except the radiator shutters. Steve
  13. Hi, I don't have the serial no. handy.will grab it tomorrow. The truck was purchased new by Geneseo,NY F.D. and they have had it ever since. They had a new aluminum boby put on in 1984. The truck is a 1971, registered as a 1972.The cost new was approx.$36,000.
  14. Selling for the fire dept. a 707C engine removed from their 1971 R608F fire engine. The engine has one burnt piston, otherwise in good condition and complete except air compressor.Has approx. 38,000 miles since new.Would like to sell complete, but PM me with you needs. Also have the radiator in as new condition. Thanks, Steve
  15. I'm getting off track a bit here,but....... My father has been gone for nearly 35 years now.He grew up in the era where people were changing from horses to cars, trucks, and tractors. Many of the farmers would use kerosene in their engines in place of antifreeze because it was availible and cheap. It would cause the hoses to get soft and swell to double their size. Most engines then had no water pumps,no pressure caps so it took several years for these to fail completely.Just thought I'd throw this in. Steve
  16. Don, it was good to finally meet you. I'll keep in touch. Steve
  17. Hey guys, sorry for passing along the misinformation. We had a discussion at work whether it was to heat the pump or cool the engine so we called on our resident firefighter who settled the disagreement by telling us it was to heat the pump.Wrong answer.Glad I got set straight.I'll let everyone know at work tomorrow. Yea, I know it looks like an ISX,but got to carry on the firetruck thing. Steve
  18. Yes, that's a pump heater. There's a copper coil inside of the housing. Engine coolant flows thru the hsng heating the pump water in the coils that circulates from and back to the pump. Supposed to keep the pump from freezing in cold weather. Steve
  19. Vinnie, the truck is a 1972 if memory serves . I'm not sure of the engine. I know it's an early 237 'cause it has studs and nuts instead of head bolts.I will check for sure on both.By the way your U Model is really looking good.Do you have a gold bulldog for the hood?
  20. Ken, I had to go thru a distributor, which in our area is Fleetpride. They issued a P.O. that I sent with package to Grand Rock. Mike, the mufflers are full flow. These came from PAI and a labled Shuttlesworth. I ordered these as full flow and they sure are wide open. Vlad, everything we have used from G.R. has been of high quality and fits. The pipes we get are always cheaper than OEM.Don't have experience with their mufflers but am sure they would be good too. steve
  21. Thanks guys. With the rear ratio it figured about 50mph top speed. Was acceptible to fire dept. This is still a working truck by the way.The radiator is from an old R model tractor. Both tanks were repaired(new corners tigged on, tapped holes helicoiled) and a new 4 row core from Detroit Rad. installed. The polished alum. came from a spray can.I'll get mor pics when it's complete. Steve
  22. I neede all new exhaust for my Superliner. It had dual 4', I wanted 5".This wasn't availible thru Mack. The original was in bad shape, pieces missing etc.I sent the old pieces with sketches and dimensions to Grand Rock in Painesville,Ohio. In 2 weeks I had everything I needed. Everything fit like factory.
