L model, electrical question

Ok thank you will do. I pulled it right from the package but I know that doesn't mean anything -
I have a 1953 L model ladder truck. It has two 12 volt batteries. I had to replace the light flasher which says 24volt on it? I replaced it with one that says 12/24volt and it's not working. Under the hood is original as far as I know.
