  1. True Bedbuggers! Mark , I wish I had the pictures for you. I wish I had them for me. It was Cape Cod Moving and Storage back then on Bearses Way, Hyannis, MA. When Dad got the business, it was Global and then moved to NA. All his stuff was single axe and 30-35ft trailers. Lots of stuff has changed in the trade since then. He sold it in 1973. Jim
  2. Great pictures! Wild paint! Thanks for sharing! In the early 70's, my dad had a cabover Brockway single axle with a 220 Cummins. It's paint was just plain white with North American decals. It was teamed up with a White cabover, GMC Astro with a 671, lots and lots and lots of Internationals that came with the business. He hated the 'Binders but the dealer bent over backwards to get the trucks in, repaired and out super fast. Jim
  3. That's cleaning up nicely!! If you want another one, you could check out the Hitchcock Bros B-75 on Craigslist in Canaan. Sadly, I think it has been outside a little too long. Jim
  4. B75 would be a Mack motor. B73 and B77 were Cummins. Jim
  5. Hey Ben, Some of the designations carried into the R models but not all. I think the use of the letters W and P got dropped. Others will have to jump in to say for sure, but that is how I remember it. Jim
  6. Hi Folks, I'll put in my .02 on the subject. T = tractor X = heavy duty SW = six wheel or tandem straight job P = single axle straight job S = six wheel or tandem straight job ST = tandem tractor LST - light weight tandem tractor LT = light weight single axle tractor SWX = tandem heavy duty There are more too. All info is worth exactly what you paid for it. Mack did love alphabet soup! Jim
  7. Hey Mike, Good save and brings your memories back home. The sheetmetal and fenders in particular look fantastic! Was the truck a tandem, long wb since day one or was it stretched out at some point? Jim
  8. Hey Don, I am heading to the show. Not sure of day (s) or time yet. I will look for the van trailer with the palm trees and flamingos painted on the side!
  9. Hello Don, Welcome aboard! There's plenty of room in the pool. Just be careful of the deep end! Jim
  10. Others will have to help with the technical parts. I had a 2 stick 6 spd that I wanted to swap the lever and the the air cylinder shifting mechanism onto. The fellow that has been around Mack trans all his life said that it was not possible to do. There was something to do with the internals of how the shifting forks worked. To be honest, I just can't remember the exact issue. But, that it what I was told. I went with an X107A air shift 6 spd behind my 285 with 4.17 and 1100 X 24.5 and at times it would be nice to 4 1/2 shift position because of the big drop from 5 to 4.
  11. That was a Big Dog in it's day! Pretty KooL that it was still working in the mid 70's (I think) by the age of the cars on the hauler. Weren't the integral sleepers L cabs all done by about 1957-58?
  12. The smaller guages are SW and probably be best to just get new. I have bought them through Summit Racing and Watts. The tach can be purchased through Watts. Watts also has a Mack Speedo but it is new with kilometers as well as mph so it will look different. All guages are SW so if you want all could get new bezels from a shop the has the tool to remove the bezels and then recrimp new bezels to the unit. Then...while they are at ther guage shop how much more will you want to do? Freshen the faces? Reset the odo? More $$$ Between rebuilding and getting all new is about the same money when I last priced doing a full set. Rechroming flash chrome would get into bucks. Flash chrome is when a metal is highly buffed and then chromed. Chrome is actually clear. So it is a electrically processed protected plain metal. That would be tough to do on any part that has a defect. The copper, nickel then chrome system (triple plate) would not work on most bezels because the end process would be more brittle than the flash chrome is. Boy, it sure would have been sweet if Mack had done them in stainless!!!
  13. Hello, I think it is flash chrome. I checked my guages and they are magnetic and stainless is not magnetic. Also, when I have looked at a old, tired rig, the bezels will show rust. There again stainless steel doesn't rust.
