  1. Thanks Bigen!! I'll do some more searching for what the Super Hero's have to say!! Bill
  2. Thanks Mark! I used to work at a Mack dealer years ago and still know the owners well. They have offered to run the VIN's on any Mack I look at. What exactly are the "upgrades" that need to be done to the EGR system? I am pretty handy with a wrench (and hammer!!). I read one thread on here about blocking or removing the EGR all together. Will the truck still pass a sniffer test? Bill
  3. A point? Am I a newbie missing something????? Lol. I think I will look real hard at a 2000 Vision with a rebuilt E-7 460. Bill
  4. Thanks Bigen, That all explains why I see so many with seemingly low mileage. With this economy you don't know if they guy is selling due to work shortage or repair money shortage..... I sure appreciate the help and sharing of experience!!! Bill
  5. Well, I'm still looking at a few Mack Visions. Various years, various miles. All 460hp. Is there certain years that are better than others? The ones I have found so far are between 2000 and 2007. The prices sure are a bunch lower on KW/Pete dealer lots. I guess they want to move the off brand stuff!! Thanks for the advice folks!! Bill
  6. Very good info, thanks a bunch!! I didn't expect anyone to look up the VIN for me!! The truck has about 710,000kms (440,000miles). I would like to replace a turbo before they go boom, much less work.... Bill
  7. Sorry, they are 11R22.5. I have been doing some research and some articles from 2002 are saying that Mack suggests running them at 1600rpm for cruise. If this is correct, it should be good. I guess lower cruise rpm "should" get better mileage though.... Bill
  8. Cool, thanks for the info!! Any estimates on fuel economy? Will be pulling ~25 tonne in a 53' van. Fuel being the biggest expense, I don't want to make a bad choice. I think this truck was used to haul a dump trailer before, so not sure it had much long haul. The way this truck is spec'ed it should pull a house down, I just don't want to have a tanker following me!! Thanks again for the help!! Bill
  9. I am looking real hard at this heavy spec 2004 Vision. It has: E7 460 Mack 18 speed 4.10:1 Full Lockers 14000/46000 22.5 Tires VIN: 1M1AE07Y64N020862 I have been told that if you get the Mack's RPMs over 1500 the mileage goes for a crap. Would this truck be reving too high at 65mph? We are capped here in Ontarion Canada at 105kph (65mph). Thanks for the help guys!! Bill
  10. If it's only around 400-500 lbs, I'm not worried about it. It will be good for current job, just thinking if I go back to tamdem/tandem work it might be too heavy. Bill
  11. Thanks!! I will check the door. It has 4.10:1 Meritor rear ends under it. Bill
  12. Hey folks, I am looking at a 2004 Vision. It has the E7 460 with an 18 speed. It is a heavy spec truck with 14,600 front/46,000 rear. Assuming cab/sleeper is the same, how much heavier is this truck than a standard 12K/40K spec truck? The frame is a heavy single also. Thanks for the help!! Bill
  13. Thanks for the info guys!! I will take a very close look at this truck, the price is right. I will let you folks know what I decide on. Bill
  14. That's a good lookin ride Mark!! Thanks for the info guys, I will get the VIN and check into it. Are the replacement cams/turbo's better than the originals? Bill
  15. Hey folks!! I am looking at getting back into trucking (been out a bit over year). I have come across a 2001 Vision. It has the 460HP E-7 and an Eaton-Fuller 13 speed. The truck has about 875,000 miles on it. What should I look for as far as problem areas on this truck? Is there typical issues?? Thanks for the advice!! Bill
  16. Hey folks!! Bill here from Stratford, Ontario Canada. Been out of the trucking for a bit over a year and thinking about getting back into it. Looking at a 2001 Mack Vision. I used to be a Puppy mechanic back in the 80's. Bill
