  1. Thanks for the advice, I don't want to put a five speed trans in my truck. I like what I have now. The clutch is a push type and the maxidyne had a cable operated pull clutch. I don't want to change that all over. I know what you mean by falling off to 1400-1500 range while pulling. I just think the truck would be much more pleasurable to drive if I matched the rpm range to the type of transmission. I didn't know if that could be done with only adjustments to the injection pump or do I need different injectors and turbocharger to get this accomplished? I have been told that it should be only pump work. I might add a tip turbine and after cooler at a later date.
  2. Found a gasket on wall of local parts dealer, he didn't know he had it! I will try it when I figure out my cam problem.
  3. Hi, I started to install my good used Camshaft into my engine tonight. Well guess what, it's pretty much shot too. I cleaned it up and started to look closely at it and there's pitting and the metal is almost flaking off the lobes in spots. I looked at a few internet places for cams and they seem quite expensive. Is there a place that regrinds or rebuilds cams for these or anyone have a good used cam I could buy. I never knew these engines had cam problems till now. Thanks Morgan
  4. Hi, Question about Injection pumps. I have installed a 237 into a B-61 with a duplex trans. I am having the Injection pump worked on now and would be a good time to adjust it differently if needed. My question is , since my truck has a 10 speed trans I will shift much sooner that a truck with a 5 speed trans. My power band will be much narrower and I will not need to let the rpm to drop down to 1200 RPM like the 5 speed Maxidyne engines. I think it should be set to specs. that would have a power band 1600 to 2100 RPM. I have drove the truck before and it has more power if I just shift the main with no split shifting. I also know that the old two stick transmissions don't like to have that much torque put through them at that RPM. Has anyone had these adjustment done to their Injection Pumps? I know that Mack v8's had different torque and horsepower specs. for different transmission applications all because of the 5 speeds being of the "low torque rise" versions.
  5. Hi all, Just got off the phone from the Mack dealer about ordering some gaskets for my 237. I am finally getting around to installing the camshaft and was told the front timing cover gasket has been replaced by silicone gasket sealer. There was a gasket before and if I use the sealer I should have to readjust the thrust button adjustments on the front cover for the cam and jackshaft( for the air compressor). The pan gasket is available still. This engine is from an 1977 R model. Is there a part number available for the gasket or is the parts guy correct? thanks Morgan, a.k.a. Fred
  6. Yes Ron, We plan on going down Saturday evening for a bite to eat. Hope to see lots of trucks there this year!

  8. Hey Guys, I am needing a functioning air compressor for my b model. The one on the truck only builds about 30 lbs of air pressure. I thought I would repair it but it must have froze up at some point because the back of the compressor that is beside the engine block is all brazed back together. Thought I would try to find a better one to start with. PM me or 812-381-0983 Thanks Morgan
  9. Thanks for the good wishes! Morgan
  10. I have a customer that is wanting me to rebuild a 401 gas that is using oil and has blow by, I am need to know is where to get parts for the beast? I would hate to get this apart and not be able to rebuild it, could any help me out? Thanks Morgan
  11. I was reading Diesel Power magazine and it had a article about UPS. They said that the only way the trucks got to keep the bulldog was it had a function, its how you open the hood. The also dont sell anything, although I have heard of people getting some semis from them at one time or another, I have seen one r model when I went to Oregon, It was pulling pups up Cabbage hill only one I have ever seen. This was about 5 years ago and it looked very old at that time, 70's vintage maybe early eighties. I have some friends that work at UPS and they say they will repair a truck until it cant be fixed anymore and then its destroyed.
  12. HI all. I need some help, I have been talking to my body man and good buddy Rob, He's doing fine by the way, He has informed me that it would be best if I could get some better body parts for the super liner. My cab is rusted badly, he thinks it would be best if I found a better cab to start with. The rain pretty much comes in the roof and drains through the floor. If anyone has a lead on a replacement that is in better shape and price is a consideration please reply. Morgan
  13. I sure do envy you guys in that part of the country, there's and truck show almost all the time and not too far away. I have to pick and choose to have enough money and time off of work to go out your way and see some good shows! Morgan
  14. is your truck a 24 volt series parallel switch, or 12 volt only. I would start with a good cleaning of the post of the battery. but I bet your parallel switch took a crap, thats not cheap.
  15. don't these engines have a head gasket problems anyway??? The oil cooler is the first logical choice most times there's oil in the coolant though. The orings on the ends of the cooler get hard and let the coolant slip by when cold. I suppose you could drop the pan and pressurize the cooling system, then see where the drip is coming from.
  16. I met this dog and its owner, the killer just about licked Joe( my 3 year old boy) to death!! What a wonderful dog. Dang nice f model too.
  17. We are staying at the comfort inn, in columbia PA hotel (pa 526)
  18. I don't think there's such a critter as a b74, I think its a b753. Sure looks like superliner tanks, I cant say on the rears as if they are original or not, I suppose alum. rears were available. The rear wheel spokes have 5 arms, I think they had 6 until 1964 model year. Cab is original to the b 70xx and 80xx due to the sunken floor pan on the drivers side. Ivy leage engine.. Thats comical!
  19. Brian, I could get yours to Lititz PA if someone would pick it up there and sent it the restof the way to Mass. I will be going to Gerharts all Mack show.
  20. Hi, just want to give an update, we have about 40 trucks at the grounds all ready, all shapes and sizes and models. If your in the area it would be worth while to stop in. morgan
  21. Hi, Your all invited to the antique show at Elnora IN. We have plenty to do, check out the club website at www.wrvaa.org to see all of the other things going on. It starts on sept. 6th through the 9th. All truck show exhibitors will receive a "goody bag" and dash plaque. We are featuring International trucks, tractors and engines, but plenty of all makes will be represented. Hope to see you there. Morgan
  22. The reason for the u joint in the b73/b75 series is that the steering box is in the same spot as a b 61 truck, the cab however is farther back on the frame. The steering box is tilted towards the rear of the truck to reach the correct spot in the cab, the joint is to tilt the steering wheel up to correct the angle of the steering column for driver comfort. I am thinking that I would check the frame numbers since you said it had "duplex" front wheels, I am thinking "gunite" wheels. So I am thinking a possible b53 frame, that would have came with the intergrated style power steering. Well enough for the Mack CSI, I would love to get my hands on one of those power steering box set ups, it must be your lucky day! Morgan Heaton
  23. I have had some hudson cars that had a wet clutch and they were quite a bit different. The clutch disc was saturated in oil looked kinda like a torque converter. The cluch disk looked like a metal disk with several cork plugs in it. If you let it leak all the oil out it would grab too quickly and rip the little corks right out of the disk. I don't know if thats how mack trucks did it but thats what I know. The most modern aplication of a wet clutch is a motorcycle, I think almost all motercycles have a wet clutch.
  24. I think they used the entire roof of the van, kinda scalped the r cab roof skin, roof rot seams very common in r model macks anyway. Morgan
