Just a shot in the dark BULLHUSK
  2. OH WELL I guess my R model with the American Bosch must be a lemon ? no?
  3. Call Devino truck parts Newark N.J on Doremus Ave ask for Mike he's got a couple of bulldogs chain drives sittin in his yard he comes across a lot of old stuff' it's worth a shot or get in touch with Gary Mahan just Google his name or some one should have his # to post. BULLSUSK PS I've seen this truck at his place and it's something you realy got a see. that steering wheel on the drivers side(out side beheind driver ) thats the trailer brake it works with a steering box ,pullies ,an cables it's just something to see. Bigfoot must have driven it!
  4. I agree with just about everything you have said here but why pick on Freightliner? We stopped buying Macks in the late 1980's (WE HAVE ONE CH 613) at one time you could not give me brand X 100% MackTruck then---- Am Bosch inj. pumps started to fail, water pumps started to leak, fan clutches started to stop working, our T2090 9speeds started to explode because of shifting fork failure then Mack later came out with a new modf. cover. Mack never stepped to the plate to help us!! a 100% Mack customer why??? So we bought 1 Pete and 1 F/liner series 60 detroit diesels 1993 we still have those trucks today over 800,000 mi.we have gone over them sure today we are 100 % Freightliner why you say? Benz bought Freightliner Western Star And then Detroit diesel also Sterling They have kept these companys alive except for Sterling not like Volvo who destroyed White Motors and put Volvo on the lots I don't see any Merc's on Freightliner lots ? Benz shifted some assem. to mexico but keep Detroit Diesel assem and production in Detroit USA were all there world engines are made.In closing I only wish Benz had taken over Mack and I'll bet you wouldn't see a Merc. motor under the hood.Look at a heavy Western Star today tell me it's not a Old Mack Acar combo ? again just my personal opinion BULLHUSK PS we still love and own the older Macks
  5. Wellcome Eric, call the Mack Museum in Allentown PA. 610- 266- 6767 tell them what your looking for they will mail you back within 2 to 4 weeks. He also has some nice older pete's with Cat 3408's very low Mi. OH ONE LAST THING IF YOU DO SHOW UP THERE DON'T EVEN SAY THE WORD MACK EVEN IF THE GUY YOUR WITH'S NAME IS MACK CALL HIM BILL OR GEORGE RAY'S HEART IS WITH BROCKWAY TO THIS DAY,HE HOLDS MACK TRUCK CO PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR BROCKWAYS DEMISE. BULLHUSK
  7. Whats the deal with these American Bosch inj. pumps my 88 R model E-6 350 only has 375-K miles on it and i'm ready to put my 3rd pump on it (brass inside pump) is there any fix for this? Ihave a CH with a Robert Bosch Germ.pump I think it's A P7100 ? over 500,000 mi never touched it.I've been told if i want to put the P7100 on my R600 i have to change the turbo. Is ther a fix for the Ambec pump ? Thank's ERNIE BULLHUSK
  8. Ya GG2 good luck wtth them Brocks. You should get some hits there and you know I never had that happen to me on a Mack but I learned on a Mack Quad box and the old timer (Tony) would always tell me make square shifts and no horseshoe's like Joe said
  9. GG2 hay thers nothing wrong with being to young you can always learn, just got to find A truck with A side stick I'd show you on my Brockway but thats a5x4 air shift besides A Mack I though was always the easiest an just felt like they (the two sticks) belonged together just a better driver friendly truck all around just my opinion. And OH by the way usually when you drove an A-Car with an aux trans there was a peice of rebar under your seat so when you jamed the aux you had to go under the truck and bang the shifting rails back into place something something you didn't have to do on a MACK ERNIE
  10. Superdog; Yes that is the motor!! I GOOGLED Cat 1676 and got some good feed back even one guy calling it ( THE GHOST IN CATS CLOSET) another guy confirming what i remembered Cat doing and that was replacing them with 1693 and 1674's even had a picture of one!! Ernie
  11. Took power nap,I am relaxed an cured of any egotistic tendancies no offense taken HK I just love this site and it answers so many unanswered questions that i have, and so many more to come!! ERNIE
  12. The guy asked A question?can you drive a Mack with a quad box without using all the gears and the answer is YES if you are M/T and the truck is NOT loaded I stand by my answer! it has nothing to do about being lazy or driving with two cups of coffee and 4donuts and a pack af camels if your 673 natural or your E9 500 can" t pick the RPM'S up M/T you should bring it to the shop if the quadbox has a dead 5th then you can't shift it that way Ernie PS sorry not trying to be a wise guy just thought i answered the guys question correctly
  13. Russ, the K/W that this Cat V8 was in had to be about a 1965,66.67 I talked to my friend last night, I was about 15 or 16 at that time he was about 18 and working in the shop so he new the truck a little bit beter then I did. It was in fact a twin turbo @ 475 hp V8 it was not a 3408 you had the 1693 & 1674 6 cylinders out ther at that time i don't think the 3400 series was born yet icould be wrong about that but this was a new cabover sleeper and the motor would just explode . Now Cat did make good on the motor but after the 3rd time they pulled it and put a brand new 1674 270hp in it I'm not a big Cat fan but curently there are a few guys running those 3408 450hp motors by us and they run the hell out of em so it couldn't have been a 3408 he also told me Cat only had a few of them out there in tractors that one year only, and they had to take them all back and that was the end of them sort of like the twin turbo Mack V8. Ernie PS. The guys name who owned the truck was Conrad Tucker
  14. Yes, I've done it many times only when I was M/T. If it's LoLo,Low, Direct & Over, just leave your aux. in direct shift your main trans. progressivly to 5th if the truck is too slow in 5th direct then shift your aux. into overdrive. I've driven A-Cars Macks & Crane Carriers with 10 to 15 yd concrete mixers for Colonial Sand & Stone and after we unloaded we didn't need all of those Xtra gears you can do the same with a duplex & a triplex just makes your day a little e/z/er Ernie
  15. Just another OBAMANATION I just hate to see old companies go under like that. A company my dad an now myself bought trucks from in Bkln.NY BRUNO G.M.C Freightliner closed its doors after 87 years in a family busn. Ernie
  16. thats IT !! thats the one thanks Ernie
  17. Back in the early 70's a guy who worked out of Houdile quarry in Jersey ran a R700 with a twin turbo Mack V8 the motor would not stay together,Mack woundup putting in a 285 Maxi.Do any of you guys know what motor that was? I have not seen one ever again, are they still out there?what model was it? Also around the same time a guy had a 65 K100 K/W with a big CAT V8 I think that was also a twin turbo motor could not keep that together have never seen any of them again, the guy pulled it and put in a 1674 any you guys remember any any of these V-8s Thanks Ernie
  18. wow!! 413 Chrysler this could be a great project truck!! I just bought a superliner and before i bought it i had a lot questions about the truck, one of the guys on this sight told me to get the frame serial# off (on my truck) the front, right frame rail, and then call the Mack Museum I gave them the vin # and about 10 days later got the build sheet, who it was ordered for and so/on ther phone # is 610-266-6767 info is FREE but you should send them a donation which is tax deductible good luck. Ernie you sure it doesn't glow in the dark! just kidding
  19. Not bad looks like a good solid truck!!does it have the 475 Mack motor? or Scania? PS wait till dark,if you can still see the truck it worked at T.M.I. Ernie
  20. Google Hall Scott Engines there is a link called Hall Scott gas engines, inthat link they talk about a SPECTRE BRAND ADAPTER converting over to a later carb. It also has many other things that owners of these engines talk about Ernie
  21. I agree with Firemack I drove an old LJ Mack tandem dump truck when I was 17 and I was told it was a 707 it was very good strong motor and it did have a gov. on it,when I asked the boss if I could open er up A little he said ok but he would have to smash my toes on my right foot,I left it alone. If the truck has not run or turned over for a while I would pull the plugs and the valve covers off And throw some Marvales Mistory oil(spelling might be wrong)into the cylinders and pour over the top of the motor, let it soak for couple of days and try to turn it by hand to make sure none of the valves are stuck and GOOD LUCK I hope you get her and keep us posted it looks like a nice truck Ernie
  22. Ok guys,I got the info i requested from the Mack Museum using the frame vin #.Here go's Built at Macungie PA plant on Dec. 11,1984 for M.B.Transport. Order cancelled transferred to general sales (original order from Keystone Mack) Sold to Wm. Cavill & Son Linden NJ on February 14, 1986 14 months later E9 440 Mack V8 Now has 500 V8 T-2100 trans. 12000 fr. FAW 537 C REAR SA34C CARRIER CRDPC92193 4.17 RATIO SUSP.ARD234.6 AIR CONTROL KIT FOR SA34C A577-MI OK STEERING GEAR 392S POWER STEERING Like i said before I have never seen this axle mount steering before but, I've been told they work OK. Now the build date being an 84 makes sense for this box being there. The motor thats in it now is A E9 500 according to the valve cover tag I'll check the block # now that I have the orig. engine #. The frame is on piece single front to back no splice under cab, it does have the round head lites and the interior color is Burgandy I thought it was black but what the hell do I know!!does any one remember this truck? any info about it would be helpfull since I will be Buying it this week. Thanks for any help Ernie BULLHUSK PS sorry for being A pain in the ass with all the questions but what I don't know I have to learn.
  23. I remember my dad had some old hand wrenches with Macks name on them,he told me A new Mack came with a spare rim lug wrench and some tools, could that be A tool box they came in ? We're talking pre B mod. Macks Ernie
  24. We had them in our MB 400's back in the early 70's some head gasket trouble thats about it but Mack started using them in there tandems R model dumps MB 600 25 YD garbage trucks, when they started over loading the motor thty did not last long.Ithink they were only 475 cu in Mack also had there own motor it was 465 or 475 they both did good in the single axle trucks as did the 413 Chrysler Ernie
  25. O how I would love to hear the sound of those twin 8's under load a bark that would surely bite!!!
