  1. At the end of the day, even though sticking it to the town sounds like the most satisfying thing to do, bankruptcy will only do more harm than good to the honest productive members of the town that aren't on Mrs. Shizdontstink side. They still need sewer, water, infrastructure and other public works projects not to mention law enforcement, fire and EMS protection (much of which I am sure is done by volunteers but nonetheless requires money). I like Paul's idea of giving them one final chance to right their wrong. This way Paul gets what he wants and legally deserves as a land owner, veteran and citizen of the United States, and the vast remainder of the town (which I am assuming are not trying to screw him) are not deprived of the services and protections that their taxes have gone to fund for decades. On the other hand Paul, if they even flinch, drop the hammer.
  2. Paul - I'm a fan of my Henry .45-70 or 45gov lever action rifle. Short barrel and lever action which thugs have no idea how to operate if the get it out of my hands, at which time I would reach for my grandfathers 75 year old S&W model 10 service revolver from NYPD. Nothing to jam, nothing to cock. Squeeze the trigger thats it. If I cant get it done with that, its time to meet my Lord anyway.
  3. A few places that you might be able to find more detail on the gold leaf. Of course the Mack museum. Also the Gettysburg FD right up the road from you had a similar L.... Their museum may have pictures of it. Jere Lady of Lady & Taylor in Heidlersburg just north of Gettysburg bought that rig in the late '90s but unfortunately last I heard it burned up in a barn fire. Jere is a wealth of Mack knowledge and may be able to help regardless.
  4. I need some help here. My organization provides health related services to seniors in Illinois, many of which do not have access to transportation. As a result, we provide van service, free of charge to those who need it. Recently, one of our drivers was involved in a MVA through no fault of his own. He was driving a cutoff van with a bus body on it (think airport rental bus or nursing home van). These vehicles typically seat 8 or so passengers with the remaining seats removed for wheelchairs (1-3). The responding officer indicated our driver (who had no passengers on board) was "operating a passenger-carrying vehicle without possessing valid medical certificate". This being said, in the 7 other states that we operate there is no such requirement to have a medical card as we are not for hire, and we are not engaging in interstate commerce and our vehicles carry less than 15 passengers. Any thoughts here before I make a dozen or so folks obtain medical cards?
  5. Well... Same problem popped up. I didn't have time to work on it myself so local Detroit Diesel shop sent a guy with 6v53 experience out and he replaced the fuel pump. Said the fuel was nasty and decided not to start the truck because he was afraid that it would "gum up" the new pump and create the same problem or that the rack would hang and it could run away. His suggestion is to tow it to the DD shop and have them spend a couple hours flushing the fuel system.... So the question that begs to be asked, and I know this isn't nearly a big a deal for not DD motors, is should I put some fresh fuel in the tank with some treatment additive and drive the thing a whole bunch and try to clear it out, OR tow it, drop the tank, and flush the system at DD? Thoughts?
  6. Missing pictures of the week. Haven't seen him here since the third week in February. Hoping all is well.
  7. It does sound awesome. When you do more that 25 or 30mph, the well broken in Federal Q2 siren growls in the wind.
  8. I didn't. The repower was done in the late '70s or early '80s. I've heard conflicting stories about where the engine came from. The Boro of Gettysburg did the swap and it either came out of a wrecked Boro dump truck or large loader of sorts. It went from red to slime lime near that time too. I put it back to red. Rode to many a call on this rig before it was taken out of service in 1998. I graduated from Gettysburg College and the GFD still hadn't sold it in the early 2000's so I bought it and restored it. Left the motor in it and a few other modifications as well as that is how it spent the majority of its useful life.
  9. I have a turbo 6V53 in my '57 B-85F. It fits fine. Pic attached... she's a little dusty.
  10. Looks like Howard Pfieffer made the news on firehouse.com as did Harlan County. http://www.firehouse.com/news/12388256/retired-palm-coast-fire-chief-helps-ky-fire-departments-acquire-fire-apparatus-firefighter-news
  11. So it looks like they tore down the old fire station that was on Mildred St. in Harlan. Sunshine Station 2, will that cover 421 all the way to the Lee County line or is there still a fire department in Cranks?
  12. Where in Harlan County is this department? I was up in the spring for a funeral and over in Rose Hill for the burial and forgot to look you up.
  13. Never saw this rig the entire time I was in Gettysburg. We ran out that way first or second due with several of our rigs and never saw anything other than some old green B models. I was always curious about the old rigs there, but was discouraged by some of the old timers at the FD from "stopping in" to say hello. Never asked why, just assumed visitors weren't appreciated.
  14. Our neighborhood is a disaster of debris. Our neighborhood was the first in Winter Park to have the power lines buried. As a result, even though it looks like a war zone, we never lost power. I had the generator ready to go if we did though. Sadly, a colleague's 84 year old neighbor attempted to fill her generator at night without shutting it off and while using a kerosene lantern as a light source. As a result she's in the burn unit at Orlando Regional Medical Center, 2 of 3 dogs are dead and the house is going to be a bulldozer special once the insurance adjuster is done with it. By Tuesday afternoon, we were getting alerts on our iphones (like the ones for Amber Alerts or Silver Alerts) about the dangers of operating generators indoors or near open windows.
  15. I think I've mentioned this here before, but in Gettysburg back when I was in college, we ran a 1977 Seagrave rearmount ladder that had air assist steering. Going through the square on the way to a job was always an adventure. Never knew if the truck was going to turn or not.
  16. I cannot believe that you refuse to denounce hate speech that calls for a member of this community to be hung. What is wrong with you? Why is that language acceptable to you? How is that language ok to be associated with an organization (Teamsters) that you hold in such high regard.
  17. He's a nazi? He's an a-hole? He should be hung? Is he these things because he is a republican? Those statements are the epitome of hatred. You people want tolerance for everything that you think is right and are intolerant of those who disagree with you and suggest that hard working, tax paying, law abiding veterans like Paul (41chevy) should be hung. TeamsterGrrrl I call on you to immediately denounce this new person who is trying to align himself with you because of your teamster background. You are a smart woman and we do not agree with each other on many topics but you are above this type of hate speech.
  18. Speaking of which, mine still doesn't understand why I put bearing races in the freezer and brake rotors in the oven while redoing the wheel bearings on the race car.
  19. You are, in all seriousness, a better man than I.
  20. When people disagree with you and call you slurs like a "bigot", do you walk away. Not one word that I have said is bigoted, yet that is how my side of this conversation has been labeled. Others feel the same way. She's a very intelligent woman who is trying to use a typical liberal tactic to bombard a legitimate conversation with terrible adjectives to describe the people who don't agree with her. She is using the rhetoric that her party claims to despise to leverage her position in this discussion. I personally won't roll over and take it. Shame on her.
  21. No. Just one with a crappy attitude that is filled with demented thoughts. I'm sure the neighborhood kids love you!!!
  22. WRONG WRONG WRONG.... She's back in fantasy land. This is not a bigoted conversation. Just some folks expressing their opinion about history..... And you who keeps throwing hateful slurs at us. You've called me a bigot. But I've completed your intelligence. Typical liberal you are. You can't stand my opinion so you trash me with slurs. Many who feel your way choose to assassinate law enforcement officers, disrupt the daily movements of the general public, riot, and destroy property that they have not worked to build and thus have no right to destroy.
  23. No you didn't miss anything, she (like all of her leftward friends) is continuing to make stuff up. No evidence of collusion with the President and Russia. No evidence of anyone on this board denying or minimizing slavery. See, if enough people read her made up BS about us denying and minimizing, they'll believe it without searching out the facts. This is what they do all the time. In fact it's taught in Liberal Media Studies 101. Oh check this snippet out from today... http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/06/23/caught-on-tape-dem-official-says-hes-glad-scalise-got-shot.html A democrat inciting hatred and violence... Who'd a thunk it!!!
  24. WRONG WRONG WRONG... Fantasy land. No one here has ever denied the horror of slavery. If anyone did, I'd be the first to jump on them. So there you go making up the facts like a typical liberal. Was the confederacy traitorous? Or was it a natural cycle in the building of our country and crafting of our eventual strong position of freedom at home and abroad. When you fist fight with your brother or sister growing up are you a traitor to your family? I bet our founding fathers sure looked like traitors in the eye of the British. Were they wrong to start The Revolutionary War? Lady, I'm a Yankee. I only married a southerner. I clearly see both sides, something you're blind to. I don't think we should glorify anything. We should just represent history as just that... History. Sometimes is not pretty, but its ours., And by the way, stop making things up. Like I said, you're smart and intellectual, don't diminish your argument by inventing facts or supporting those who seek to eliminate them.
  25. The movie "Sniper" with Tom Berenger is loosely based on Carlos' life. Most notably the long crawl to take out a VC leader that took three days, as well as the scene where he shoots the enemy sniper though his own scope (essentially coming within a millisecond of his own life).
