  2. Company I'm leased to is starting to get 'em in. Up until now, I've been able to pull & operate any and every trailer in their fleet...which makes me the only truck they have with that capability/versatility. Right now, the electric roll tarp trailers are the only ones I CAN'T pull & operate.

Anyway, I'm wanting to wire up my truck so that IF one of them becomes available, I'll have a chance to get it.

I asked at the local Mack dealer...they called up to their other store (who is a Shurco dealer) and I guess either the relayed message about what all I needed got mixed up...they told me $2500 :o Clicking around the Shurco site, that looks like the cost to equip BOTH the truck AND the trailer...

Anyway, the truck end looks to be fairly simple...

A rocker switch (or I assume ANY on-off-on type switch would work) on the dash, wired up to to control a solenoid.

A 40 Amp circuit breaker on the power lead to the solenoid from the battery.

And the solenoid controlling the direction of current flow back to the motor on the trailer.

    Now they (Shurco website) sell

"Cab Wiring Kit - Rocker Switch" for $192.01

"Cab Wiring Kit - Remote Box" for $96.60

"Electrical Parts Kit w/ Rocker Switch - 40 Amp Modified" for $84.48

Would any of those suffice? What's different in each of 'em to cause the price to be that much different?

    They also list the

    40 Amp Breaker for $7.02

Solenoid for $42.38 (cover is another $8.86)

Rocker Switch for $12.02 (mounting bracket is another $3.82)

Could I just buy those individual items, wire in my own on-off-on switch & plug, and save some cash? :idunno:

If I get set up and manage to snag one of the electric tarp trailers, it'll mean at least an extra turn per day. If I can do it for less than $100, it'll pay for itself within the first week I put it to use. $2500 would be kinda steep, though...don't think I'd spend the money until I was guaranteed to be hooking to one of those trailers...and even then, it'd be a hard sell.

If anyone knows, the curiosity is getting to me. Already shot an e-mail to the folks at Shurco, but it'll be Monday at least before they get there to respond. If nobody posts up anything before then, I'll post their answer in case anyone else finds themselves needing to wire up their truck... ;)

I paid a grand for new electric tarp installed on my 14 yard bobtail dump, that was switches, braces, wires, tarp itself, turnkey job, i aint too sharp with wiring and polarity and shit, I guess I got more money than I got sense,,,works good though,,,Randy

  3. made me hungry, now i gotta fire up grill and sweat, or maybe just lay meat in driveway today and sit in house, look out window and watch it char,,,Randy

I was looking out window at mine charring in hot driveway, looked bout ready, stray dog came down street and started smelling round it, raised window and shot him, hes laying there by my meat now oozing blood all over it, I guess that worked out pretty good, dont have to go outside to baste it,,,love it when a plan comes together,,,Randy

  4. I guess I gotta cook a boston butt today. I had a picture of snow covered rt. 20 in West Va. as my background picture, but Jo changed it to a Peterbilt sitting at the fuel pump for some reason, so I changed it to the smoking boston butts and she said it made her hungry and wants me to smoke one today...like she tells me what to do! Well, gotta go to the grocery store and get a boston butt-mine's frozen. I must be off.

  5. Found this on the net.

Might be I've found another one!!

    Packer

Packer,,guy who lives in town here has one restored, he uses it for a daily driver, will see if I can catch a picture of it, I think he mounted the cab on a 1 ton dodge chassis with cummins,,,randy

  6. If the spill costs more than they have, what other option is there? People "boycotting" BP won't help, either, as if they cannot sell the oil & gas they hold in reserve (which they have already spend money extracting & refining), they won't have the money they need to stop the leak OR pay any damages. If the damages work out to be more than BP can pay and survive, they will close up shop and liquidate their assets. Thousands will be out of work (until the buyers of the assets are online and the rigs and refineries are back up and operating again)...not to mention, the way this administration is using powers they don't have under the Constitution to seize the assets of BP, what other oil company will ever want to do business in the US?

Stop the leak. That should be priority #1. Don't worry about funding the recovery until the leak is stopped (and you can asses the total extent of the damages). To pay the damages while the leak is still active is putting the cart before the horse. Let BP pay $20 billion into this Unconstitutionally mandated "escrow account", only to come up $15 billion short of what they needed to stop the leak. The leak will continue, and BP will be broke (and out of business). At that point, NO damages will be paid to anyone (as the corporation no longer exists) and the oil will still be gushing from the gulf floor.

Bah Gawd rowdy, you is so right, why cant we have politicians with common horse sense like that? Randy

  7. Hey...watch it buddy...It would run 50 down hill???It had 5:83s so we put 11:00x16s on it to pick up a few mph.Now the red 41 came with 4:89s/9:00x16s so it will run 55 easy...the pic is my son Steve arriving at the prom in the old Dodge...Three of my boys drove it to there prom...Jim

Well, thas just way too cool looking, have to agree with HK too, its got a lil look of the "B" model styling to it. Good Pics! Randy

  8. I owned 2 of em back in the 70's, a 1955 and a 1941 weapons carrier type, sure wish I wouldn't have sold them.

They're just like a mini B model, complete with unsynchronized transmission.

    .

Yeah HK, I saw several weapons carriers on that site and several M37, ultimately, I would like to put a cummins in one along with a 6 speed. I think that would be the way to go. Go to dodge power wagon classifieds and check em out, there are some really nice ones on there, nice and high too,,,Randy

  9. Go for it. I had a '47 Power Wagon stolen a few years ago and haven't seen it since.

Greg, Went and looked at power wagon, it wasnt for sale, and they wouldnt budge. He said he was afraid barn would fall down if he moved it. It was pretty rough anyway, would have required more tinkering than I wanted anyway. I went to a power wagon classified site online, found one in brazoria, texas that i kinda like, they want a lil over 8 grand for it. Its a 61 model. Those trucks get pricey quick. randy

Rob, I forgot to oil my prop after all that, hope I didnt overheat anything. It was hard to keep from going somewhere and cavitating. Randy

  11. Not sure if this is some of other dogs' work, or a freak of nature. Girl has got to have back problems I'd think.

Should get ole Randy to makin "motorboat" sounds.

  13. That is my 51 A40. Out of all the trucks, this is my favorite. I will use it when the need arises but haven't really since 2004 during the construction of my shop when I hauled about 600 tons of material with it that was sand and clean fill dirt. Lots, and Lots of trips.

She runs good, dumps good, and drives pretty good.

    Rob

is what im talking bout,,i like that,,randy

  14. D) Trying to remove the condom found in the mixer after the other thread started.

Mr. Rob, what is the year on that first truck in your picture? Is that a dump bed on it? Man, I can just see myself dragging dirt around in that! I would finally be somebody! Randy

  15. Thats my opinion as well,i admire craftsmanship, but with better planning, some more research, this COULD have been an exemplary project,i'm sure there is plenty of time, money, and a lot of hard work involved but as stated, better planning and better fit/finish work would have improved this immensly. I personally would'nt have "butchered" a classic truck, but thats just me,my opinion........BTW, whats a "chasey" LOL.............Mark

A "chasey" is what I give the lil wife around the bedroom every night,,,or its what you drink after a ,,,,aw,,,nevermind,,,thats a "chaser",,,I guess the bedroom deal is more of a chaser too,,,my bad...randy

  16. Yeah Mark,,we had gotten really behind on our rainfall, it was so dry and dusty here, its still raining here today and am really enjoying it too. I hope this puts all the varmints around here in a better mood, when I say varmints, Im refering to snakes, scorpions, bees, hornets, fire ants, etc. When it gets really dry here, they seem to get moody and intent on causing you pain, (more than usual). I came real close to getting bit by a timber rattler last week when I approached a brushpile to throw some trash on it. My daughter headed out from austin to tennessee last night for the bonnorou festival, I dont think i spelled that right, anyway, music festival, modern day woodstock,,LOL,,randy

is still raining and am still loving it,,,randy

  17. Neat story.

I think, like riding a motorcycle. It's not "IF", but "WHEN" something bad is going to happen.

very well put freight, very true, I know that ever since my lil turnturtle incident years ago, to this day I am very cautious and careful about what is loose in the cab. I remember to this day the thud that big metal fire extinguisher made when it flew against the door. It probably would have been a fatal blow in the head.,,,Randy

  18. Hey randy, rain? you should come on up to virginia,it has rained here everyday for a month! anybody says anything to me about a "drought" is gonna have a problem!....Mark
