  1. Macks new highway model should be coming out sometime next year. I'm guessing it will be sharing cab shells with the new Volvo highway model. Just in time for the new plant in 2026.

Makes sense to.send them down the same production line in Mexico while allowing LVO to increase building both regional and Vocational lines at Macungie.

Volvo/Macks competition have been building highway products for years in Mexico. Can't beat'em, join'em I guess.

Neo, I ordered the service manual for Midliners, and should receive it Tuesday. I will do my best to keep up with you on the 3 post's you have, and send pic's and info accordingly..  I still think its easy to find the air leak when you hook shop air to the truck.  I would un hook the air supply from the compressor at the tank. Install an air line coupler into an open port that may have a plug in it, or install a 'T' fitting behind an air line that is coming out of the tank, then install a coupler into the 'T' and reinstall the air line. this way you have a test port, or a port to air up the truck, for other reasons.  once this is done, the air compressor line that you removed from the tank is set aside and a plug is screwed into the tank. now you have isolated the compressor and closed the the system from the tank outward.  put shop air to it and then crawl around and find the leak...  I have a couple of air nipples screwed together for this type of testing. jojo

Are you looking for unloader valves for the air compressor?

Mack midliners don't have unloader valves in the compressor system. Depending on the series, they have an unloader assembly in line behind the wet tank. 300 series just use the AD9 bendix air dryer for constant unloading.

Most refreshing news for Mack North America. Now all that's needed is follow through. Lets not get our hopes to high though as Volvo still calls the shots. For starters bring back the Superliner with big power. This will replace the Pinnacle AF which struggles at best as Mack only half heartedly promotes this model. This will make Mack competitive in heavy haul, trailer dumps,  logging etc.

Back in the early 2000s Macks heavy haul offerings were limited. There were heavy haul customers in Canada that looked into purchasing Australian built heavy Mack models and importing them to Canada. The exchange rate, shipping costs and RH drive were reasons why this interest in Aussie heavy models never materialized into imported units to Canada.

  4. 2004 engines although part of the "Etech " engine family are technically ASET Etech engines. Depending on your model of chassis, you could have an ASET AI or AC engine.

AI being in Vocational models like Granite and MR

AC being in On Highway models like CX Vision.

Which do you have for chassis model?

    Just how many were made

According to the professionals at the Mack Museum, only 358 of the alloted 500 100th year Anniversary Mack Visions were built.

I've got some neat pictures and documents regarding the roll out of the 100th Anniversary but this site won't let me upload them. Somedays it works, someday it doesn't.

Nice truck. Up until just recently, those OWNED the ready mix market here where I am. Tandem tandem, just like that with 72 inch spread. But they tell me it is getting hard to find front drive and transfer case parts for them now??

I always wondered how that drive system worked. Back in the 70's and 80's when all the ready mix trucks were just DM tandems here, I remember they all used to be able to move with nobody in them, but I have not seen that in any of the current ready mix trucks here any more.

The biggest issue with DMM6EX units in Ontario is that with the start of SPIF axle set ups over 10 years ago, you could no longer carry a full capacity load on the forward axles. Because the second axle has a cab controlled air switch which controls air bags for ground pressure to the axle. It's basically considered the same as a lift axle in Ontario which is now reduced carrying capacity.  Love those DMMs.

So it seems the change to Volvo frames influenced the name changes. I preferred the names

The Vision name never changed when the Volvo frame was introduced on Vision in 04.  At the same time, the set forward CH name remained until CH was repowered with MP engines and became Pinnacle set forward (CHU)

The Vision name changed to Pinnacle when the engine changed (MP) with a 4" larger cab, (to compensate for engine doghouse) and new interior.

Pinnacle set forward and back remained until Anthem in 2017

Then (AN) Anthem became the set back highway chassis and set forward axle stayed as Pinnacle set forward (CHU)

(Still a little confusing but hope this helps)

Would anyone on here know the production numbers of the 100th aniversary edition visions

Are you asking how many were made or the serial #'s ?  My 100 year anniversary Vision is 007901

There were also differences in US and Canadian 100 year anniversary options available. 400 were made available for the US market and 100 for the Canadian market.

No Paul, as long as I know the hood never showed up in Europe excepting a few trucks imported from the US (probably to Russia only). So my understanding the hood was American thing. Together with the reworked cab.

As for the spoke wheels as I figure we say Midliner for CS and MS cabover. The brochure I posted describes CM which didn't seem called Midliner by Mack.

The hooded Midliner built by Renault was never available in Europe. There were a few customers from the Netherlands (as an example) that had to order CS Midliner models (with hoods) from a Canadian dealer and have them shipped back to Europe. Renault/Mack refused to sell them direct from factory.

CS and MS Midliner were never offered with spoke wheels.

The CM400 model line was referred to by Mack as " The Baby 8" (small class 8) The CM was engineered and built solely by Mack in Macungie PA.

Thanks for the details, almost new story to me.

A bit more of couriosity, and sorry for that - what are the front spring hangers and spring packs? CH I suppose? Or R? To my understanding CH has different spacing between the springs than an R but the axle beam is probably just drilled a bit different like it was done to MH/RW being basically the same casting used on R's, CH's, MH's etc.

And how are the air tanks and battery boxes arranged? I don't see what was typical for a Mack chassis of the era on your pictures.

    For comparison purposes.

Similar frame rails. Not exact. Very few bends and curves in comparison to other models Mack offered.  R series style cross members used.

Not to argue ir even question wgat is said as Im definitely no expert here at all

The broucher in Vlads link above shows spoke wheels

Maybe different parts of North America offered different options, a bit like east and west coast

    Just a observation

    Interested to know your thoughts

    Paul

Spoke wheels were never an Option on Midliner in North America. I believe what Vlad posted is the CM baby 8 info he found on the net.

Midliners use Eurpoean wheels and hubs on Renault axles.
