Hello Joe, Sorry to hear about all the problems the fire department is having getting the parts needed and replacing the older truck. Speaking for myself I had been a Volunteer fire fighter when groing up. I am no longer involved but it was a great time. The voulunteer fire service is where I got my set of values that I live my life by. It is also where I got my love of Mack trucks. Through collecting Mack Fire Apparatus I have met many great people accross the country and have formed a relationship with the Rangers Hose Company in Girrardville Pa. If you would post the contact information for your fire department I would like to send a check for $100.00 to put towards the repair of the CF and replacement of the older rig. This would be my way of giving something back to the fire service. I hope some of the other Big Mack Truck members also have good memories and would also be willing to help your cause. Joe, Glad to hear you guys found a parts wagon and a second CF to put in service. I know I my preference is Mack trucks but in my opinion the Mack CF was the work horse of the Fire service for many years. Good luck with your rigs.

Great looking truck, the front windshields should be easy to get. When I needed a set a couple of years ago I just called Watts Mack and had them shipped out with a new gasket.

Did you break the short drive shaft or the transfer case.

Clean off the old paint, fill any extra holes with JB Weld. Paint and call it a day. Nice Ride.

Go to the Watts Mack sight B Model store, under interior parts on page 4 is the Gear Shift Boot priced at $48.00. That is the one I have used on my C Models.

Hello, The Noroton Heights fire department in Darien CT runs an all mack flleet. They have 4 CF's and an MR rescue truck. They love there Macks. Noroton Heights can afford new trucks but they chose to keep the mack fleet going. I saw a show on tv that had an antique/hot rod insurance agent on it. He highly recomended having insurance on project vehicles. The theory is that the truck has a value as do all the parts you put in it to upgrade it and you should be covered in case something bad happens even if its torn apart. I don't remember what company it was. I use Gullfway 727-863-5451. They requre photos of your vehicle. For most of my trucks I told them they were valued in the $5,000 range. They have never questioned the value and/or called my trucks junk.

The Exeter rig has and MP8 455 with Bull Dog Leash and an Allison Automatic Trans.

Nice Looking truck, The only explanation I have for the pink frame is its primmer and they forgot to apply the final coat of paint. None the less a nice truck.

Hello, A wise person told me somthing is only worth what some one is willing to pay for it. Its been my experiance that fire departments complain about how bad thier old rigs are. when they get thier new rig and want to sell the old one. At that time they say how good the old rig is and ask way to much money. After nobody shows an interest in over paying for thier truck they wind up selling it to a scraper who dismantles and recycles it. Once this happens the rig is gone forever. You should have the rig weighed and pay the fire department scrap value. Make sure you explain to them that you are trying to preserve a piece of the fire companies history. You could also let them know that if they request of you, with reasonable advanced notice, the rig could return back for parades and other fire department functions. Also you could add a stipulation that in the event you want to sell it they get the option of buying it back. Its frustrating when I speak to fireman who talk about thir old equipment that went to the scrapper. If your looking for just a CF their are a lot of reasonably priced rigs out their. I'm sure being a past chief you would specifically want one that has sentimantal value to you. I hope you are able to bring your department to thier senses and get the rig from them. Hello, You need to get in touch with Exeter Township Fire Dept PA Station 25. They have a Mack Seagrave tanker (3,000 gal) being built. My understanding is initiatly they were told the Mack Chassis was not N.F.P.A compliant but were proven wrong by the truck comittee. With Mack you get an enginered chassis, single vendor chassis, that in my opinion will out last the compitition. The Chassis is now built and at Seagrave being compleated. I've seen the prints for this rig and its going to be nice. Good Luck, Don Holden

Congradulations on your rig, nice that your able to preserve a piece of history from your department. Mack Fire trucks are my thing. I am also lucky that my wife enjoys them with me, although she has said no more.

It should work, with help of a good friend, mostly my good friend I replaced a 707 with an ENDTF673 in my 63 C85. The engine went in with no problems. The doner truck was another C85 so it dropped right in and I had all the proper brakets to make it look like it rolled of the line with the 673 in it. Curently I am putting an ENDTF673 in a 1961 C85 ladder truck. The motor for this was a take out from a later model truck most likley a CF. The front mount had to be changed with the one from the 707. We are using the 5 speed that was in the ladder truck. In order to do this the bell housing was also taken from the 707 because of a difference in the clutch. The second engine swap is not as smooth as the first one but its going well. Using the Allison sounds good, before you dive into it I suggest you spend time looking at both rigs closley. Make sure to measure how much longer the Allison is then the 5 speed to be sure its not to long. The drive shaft between the rear of the transmition and the transfer case for the pump is not that long. I'm not saying its a walk in the park but you should be able to do it. The up side for your swap is the R model is a standard commercial chassis and a deisiel was most common in the vehicle so what ever you need to do the job should be out there.
