  1. Needs some cash to buy head gaskets for my 673! I got a spare motor with my b and it just takes up space. Also he gave me a spare set of axle shafts but they do not fit my truck. Make an offer, pick up in peru ny 12972. The 711 has various parts and pieces in my shed including the turbine half of the turbo. There is no rockers and had been outside for a while so may be good for parts or rebuild. Call or pm 518 569 6974

  2. By chance a field is being cleared out nearby and someone spotted a neglected b model for me. Got a deal on the doors ,radiator shell, one of the fender tops and a ratty exhaust stack. The cab is crushed and there really wasn't much good left on it. Had a 7.00 series carriers and a quadbox with 3 undergears... can imagine it was slooow with the gas engine. I am guessing it was a b42, would the steering components be the same as my b61? Mine has garrison power steering that does not work so if it can't be fixed I was hoping to swap out the valve for the regular drag link.

  3. Got the heads back, he planed 5 thousandth off both pressure checked and cleaned plus 2 new frost plugs. The left head does have 5/8 corner stud holes... don't know if that is an issue or not. Those plugs in the head were actually reducers of some sort maybe that is why it was running 80 pounds of oil pressure?

  4. I didn't even take notice to those plugs before, interesting. I am debating keeping the heads off until i can find some new guides and Send them back another time to be safe. I doubt I will put a dogpile of miles on it or work it for that matter

  5. Got a call back from the motor shop he planed the one head and they pressure checked OK. Valve guides are a little sloppy but don't want to make that 200 dollar job into $500. He wanted to narrow them or something of that sort

  6. Well the heads have been shipped out for cleaning and a pressure check it looks like the rear head was warped from the buildup of black funk on the gasket. I don't know if it would be sure to reuse the old baskets so the idea is to have new ones cut out of copper. What would the proper thickness be for the gasket?

  7. Between trying to find parts for the old 673 and the bad news from the r700, I was thinking of trying to meet in the middle somewhere. A buddy of mine has a CNC machine, he could probably cut me some copper gaskets... as for the R model I think she will be parted out on here. Spend close to 1000 on getting tires on it just to find the frame wont pass inspection

  8.  I would like to repower the B model with the 318 out of my r700. I have read what I could find on the subject and it is apparent cooling could be an issue and it would be a tight squeeze. Does anybody have pointers on this one? Will the 318 mount to the 20 speed already in the B or should I just use the 15 speed fuller already mated to it seems how the 20 speed isn't made for that kind of power? Any pointers would be great, I have spent close to $7500 on 2 junk trucks over the past 3 years so I need to try and build at least one with potential.

  9. So I started the process of pulling heads off my B. Firdt one is off and it has a multilayer steel gasket with a little separation but nothing major. Does anybody have a part number for the gaskets? The serial number for The engine was ground off at some point so is there another number I can use to identify it?

  10. Well I have some tires coming for the R700 and it is almost time to put it back on the road. I have been looking into fuel rack adjustment videos to try that in the spring, there is an occasional knock on the right side  in the exhaust when it is cold which is the side that smokes. This thing loves to loose fuel prime, so new fuel lines/ fittings will be another task this season. Someone suggested using shellac to seal a waterpump, not sure if that would work on the fuel pump. The previous owner put new guts in the fuel pump so that may even be the issue. Let me know what you think, here is a short video from a little while back.

  11. Looking for half decent 11r24.5 tires, drive tread. need a set of 4 if possible, the cheapest I have been able to find are in the $1100 range. Located in Peru, NY will travel within a few hours. 518 five 69 6nine74

  12. Well some of my gauges do not work on the wrecker. I do have oil pressure voltmeter, air pressure and speedometer. My temperature, tach and fuel gauge does not work. not too worried about the fuel gauge as that one should be a simple fix. I do not know where anything hooks up on the old detroit for these gauges, can't find a diagram or schematic by far. My tach and speedo are integrated, and this motor may not be original to the truck any ideas?

  13. I still have the B, that will be a long term project from the looks of things. VIN on this I believe was R773ST1957, don't know if it was a tandem tractor at one point in time. The air cleaner did look pretty funky to me, is it just upside down? That thing does roar pretty good, tops out at about 60 but it has 24.5" tires on it, not sure what it had from the factory. Fun little truck, it was indeed $3500 but after DMV fees ($592) and then insurance (full collision on 5K value $312) There is not a whole lot left in the bank account. Today I am working on the signal lights, none of them work.
