  1. Maybe at one time but all of that currently is rusted
  2. Originally a tractor, the fifth wheel was removed and additional rails added to rear of existing frame and a fuel tank was placed on it to fuel the fleet of dump trucks at night . B61 LST originally with aluminum discs on steer , aluminum fuel tank, air start, and maybe aluminum brake shoes but i didn't have the opportunity yet to crawl around underneath it
  3. no it was a good price and a good deal not sure of specs has about 2 inches of crud on everything I know for sure it was a Celli truck I worked for them in '96 for several months with my '89 R. I'm going to contact the Mack museum to get info on how it was built so I can return it to it's original glory and it is a runner . It's going to be a long term project for sure
  4. Yes I was, I haven't been out that way in 20 years it has grown alot
  5. I hate to see our government wasting money, but when it comes to the military I keep my mind open and my mouth shut until I know all of the facts. How much of a price tag do you want to place on our freedom, and the safety of our troops? These 26-foot Metal Shark "Relentless" based High Speed Maneuverable Surface Target (HSMST) don't shoot back like the Somali's and Iranians so I fully support the Navy practicing until everything they do is FIRST nature. It is very easy to sit here and state our military "KILLS PEOPLE AND DESTROYS THINGS" well they do plenty more and they do it better than any military in the history of the world and I am very thankful for the very difficult and hard work they do. So next time you want to make an off the cuff comment about our military please do as my father always preached to me "ENGAGE BRAIN BEFORE PUTTING MOUTH IN GEAR"
  6. truck paper, ritchie brothers, iron planet, craigslist I check them everyday I also placed an add in wheels of time. I posted here to perhaps make contact with a member of this forum that either has an R Model to sell or can actually put me in touch with someone they know that has one for sale .
  7. which engine, trans and rear suspension where's it located and what is the asking price?
  8. looking for an R Model 1976 through 1979 must have a 300 or 300 plus must be all Mack
  9. looking for an R Model 1976 through 1979 must have a 300 or 300 plus must be all Mack
  10. looking for an R Model 1976 through 1979 must have a 300 or 300 plus must be all Mack
  11. Can any of the Chicago area guys tell me if Greco contracting of Des Plaines went out of business. I never get up that way anymore and someone told me today they closed their doors 2 years ago.
  12. they certainly are, the multi leaf were sandwiched in a slipper pad at the rear which was more forgiving to extreme travel of the spring
  13. Does anyone know what year the R model started using round tanks?
  14. real cream puff picture of detroit under hood but ad says 400hp Mack ????
  15. that's exactly what I mean but I never experienced that on the newer springs
  16. I'm thinking you are correct padded dash, new style suspension and add depth to the cab. I'm guessing the change in the suspension was due to the fact that the old multi leaf would cause your foot to bounce the throttle at 45 mph not 44 not 46 but at 45 and what a pain that was, couldn't give it more throttle unless you shifted to 5th couldn't drop r's otherwise you'd be too low
  17. Looks like a big block MoPar 🧐 with a lousville bumper I wonder is this factory?
  18. A DM is different than an R I'm just trying to figure out what year the change took place, I'm willing to bet it was when square fuel tanks changed to round.
  19. Well I guess I should have worded my query differently. The older R's had a multi leaf that was pinned in the front and was a slipper at the rear, at some point the R's started using a "taper leaf" which was commonly 3 leaves pinned at front and the rear of that spring pinned to a shackle and the shackle pinned to the hanger drawing is the old style on R's photo is new style What year was the change on R's? the rear spring hanger is very different and maybe the front That's what I'm guessing wish i could pin down a year
  20. WOW what a challenge it would be to restore that truck
  21. A small bit of insight I never cared for anyone's diagnosis I always do my own, however I have always been appreciative of a driver/operator that has a good understanding of how their truck works because that helps me in my diagnosis. Example if you feel a vibration it's very helpful to the mechanic if you know that it's in your steering wheel, seat, gear shifter, clutch pedal, accelerator pedal etc. Any way welcome and i hope you find this forum helpful and a valuable asset as I do
  22. I wish I never sold these trucks, but didn't have a place to keep them first one was my 1970 R had a 237 and a 5 speed with a cammelback, square aluminum tanks, aluminum air tanks, and aluminum brake shoes no maxi brakes rather a drum on the back of the trans 1980 U- Model 300+ 5 speed ST taper leaf rear suspension 1989 R688ST E6 350 Mack 9 speed 38,000# camelback RD frame rail 187" wheel base 11r24.5
