  1. Is The 454 ETECK ?

    Doubt it!

The fuel preasure valve will not work on non eteck!straight pump 454 only needs 30 psi.

    As for the 460

If the injector thing don't work, With pyro temps like that I beleive you are chasing a lack of air problem.bypass the drier. If that don,t fix it replace the turbo!

454 HAS A EXTERNAL INJECTION PUMP MADE BY BOSCH. MY 460 ETECH HAS A INLINE PUMP. I'M GONNA TRY THAT, AS TO THE TURBO, I'M THINKING ON GETTING ONE FROM (RICHMOND) THE PERFORMANCE TURBO :D . THAT WILL BE DONE DOWN THE ROAD WHEN I MAKE SOME EXTRA CASH, THAT IS WHY I'M NOT CHANGING IT NOW.

THAT'S A LOT OF GOOD INFO HERE. THANKS GUYS FOR ALL THE HELP. GREATLY APPRECIATED !!

  2. AS TITLE SAYS ON MY 97 CH613. I WAS WOUNDERING IF SOMEONE HARE CAN CONFIRM IF I'M RIGHT OR WRONG OR, IF THERE IS A OTHER SOLUTION TO THIS PROB THAT IS NOT TOO EXPENSIVE. WHEN TRUCK IS IDLE AT 600 FOR MORE THEN 5 MIN IT PUSHES ANTIFREEZE OUT TO TOP TANK THEN IT GOES TO THE OVERFLOW TANK AND FINALLY SHOOTS OUT THRU A SMALL HOLE IN PLASTIC CAP. WHEN I IDLE AT 1000 AND ABOVE OR JUST DRIVE IT, THEN I NEVER HAVE A PROBLEM WITH OVERHEATING NOR LOOSING ANTIFREEZE. I HAVE REPLACED A WATER COOLER, A TOP TANK CAP, TOOK A THERMOSTAT OUT, FLUSHED A SYSTEM AND CHECKED A RADIATOR FOR LEEKS. EVERYTHING IS NORMAL, THE ONLY THING THAT I HAVE NOT DONE IS THE HEAD GASKET. IF THERE IS OTHER WAY OF FIXING IT WITHOUT REPLACING A HEAD GASKET THEN PLEASE HELP.

I DON'T HAVE A TIME AND MONEY TO INVEST IN THIS TRUCK AT THIS TIME, IT DRIVES NORMAL WHEN RPM'S ARE ABOVE 1000.

    THANKS, RAF.

  3. Are those temps on the Farenheit scale? Is the probe mounted after the turbo? That engine wouldn't last long at those temps if yes to those questions.

YES, THEY ARE IN (F), AND THE SENSOR IS MOUNTED AFTER TURBO ABOUT 4-6 INCHES ON PIPE THAT GOES DOWN UNDER TRUCK.

    RAF.

  4. 80 psi of fuel pressure at idle is good but they need to check it going down the road. You can get an higher pressure fuel valve to boost it up to 100 psi. Mack part # 63AM28

DO YOU KNOW IF I CAN USE IT ALSO ON E7-454? IT'S A 18 SPD MACK TRANS. I HAVE ANOTHER TRUCK THAT HAS OTHER PROBLEMS BUT THIS COULD BE AN IMPROVEMENT TO IT.

IF NOT THEN I'LL ASK THEM ABOUT IT.

    THANKS, RAF.

  5. thous are high temps!

air filter is a good check!

Are the mechanics preasure testing the whole engine for leaks or just the after cooler?

The compressor is turbo charged ,you can loose boost out the air drier seen that happen on this era of truck more than once.!!

Have em by pass the air drier see if the problem goes away!

Make sure there testing the whole engine!leaksat the intake manifold are also comon!

i have also seen turbos bad right out of the box!

you need to start from the begining .

If the guys are just testing the cooler by caping both ends there missing the rest of the engine!

they need to be putting air to the turbo side of the aftercooler right thru the engine!

TRUCK WILL BE DONE TOMORROW I WILL POST RESULTS. AS TO THE PRESSURE, THEY HAVE CHECKED THE WHOLE SYSTEM AT 40PSI STARTING FROM TURBO SIDE. THERE WAS NO LEEKS... I'M ALSO HAVING A TIMING SENSOR TIMED AND ONE INJECTOR REPLACED, THEY HAVE FOND SOME PROBLEM WITH IT. I THINK THAT THIS WILL GET MY BOOST BACK UP TO NORMAL. I HAVE ALSO REPLACED AIR FILTER AND OIL COOLER.

    THANKS, RAF.

  6. yes it would show codes mine did but i didnt read the codes to pricey to do that here the computer dose have everything to do with it it is the heart of the engine in those new pos excuse my language i hate engine computers if the engine goes into limp mode for say a sensor gone bad or bad ground as bts stated didnt think to say that good call bts anyway anything bad can make a computer go into limp mode what limp mode is is it de tunes the engine so it wont mess up anything if a sensor or such goes bad but as i said it doesnt sound like your computer is in limp mode or the boost would be much lower like 10 psi so i think its something else go to mack and have them put it on the code reader and see what it says that should tell you if there is something wrong is the engine light on or any codes

I HAVE CHECKED A COMPUTER BEFORE AND NO CODES BUT ONE WHICH IS A ABS SENSOR THAT I HAVEN'T REPLACE IT YET. SOMEONE TOLD ME THAT I MIGHT BE A TIMING SENSOR NOT PROPERLY SET. I DON'T KNOW IF I SHOD DO THAT. MAN ALL THIS STUFF IS SA DAMN EXPENSIVE BUT WHEN I GOT NO POWER IT JUST PISSING ME OFF !!! TRUCK DOES LIKE 100MPH ON FLAT HEHE... BUT WHEN IT SEES A HILL, IT'S A TOTALLY DIFFERENT STORY ! SO FRUSTRATING!!!

    THANKS AGAIN, RAF.

  7. Have they put it on the computer yet to check engine profile, have they discussed the possiblity of uprating it to a 460P (487hp) lip mode it would show codes checking the grounds would be a good idea

I HAD NO IDEA THAT POSSIBILITY OF UPGRADING THRU MACK EXISTS !! THANKS FOR THIS INFORMATION, I WILL DEFINITELY ASK ABOUT THAT.

THIS FORUM IS GREAT !!! THANK YOU ALL FOR COMEBACK !!

  8. Does the engine smoke under load?If not!

What is the fuel preasure! The boost should be above 30 prefer 35

And clean exhast and aprox 1000 or below on the pyro.

If you have a low pyro reading its not a boost leak. it may be a fuel preasure problem!

I'M ONLY GETTING SMOKE WHEN SHIFTING GEARS. MY FUEL PREASURE IS AT IDLE 80 AND RADDLE 90%. I HAVE CHECKED AT MACK SERVICE. THEY SAY, IT WAS NORMAL. MY PYRO WHEN PULLING FOR MORE THEN HOUR IS ABOUT 1200-1400 WHEN IT CLIMBS IS ABOUT 1600

    THANKS, RAF

  9. :WELCOME: I agree. You cant get boost without fire and damn good fire at that. If you are not getting lots of fresh air in (CHECK AIR FILTER..i know its simple but i've overlooked the simple things before myself) good MIST of fuel ( check injectors) at the RIGHT TIME (check fuel and valve timing), free flowing exhaust (check for back pressure, buildup in manifold, or manifold leaks). It seems like most the big problems can be a result of overlooking minor details.... I have also saw where the elbow that feeds filtered air to the turbo will collaps over the turbo inlet and block air from getting in, but only underload. Its hard to see the turbo underload so look for the possiblity of the elbow being soft, flimsy or push on it to see if it can even collaps that far.... Also i am not sure how the torque sensors work in the eaton fuller transmissions but if that is reading wrong, that may not apply full power. I have also heard of many electric throttle/foot pedals only giving the computer a reading of 50-75% throttle. When it is hooked up to the computer, check to see if the computer shows %100 throttle when you push it down. One poster said that a new throttle made his truck drive like a whole new truck...

PS Raf, if your turbo has a low bust, get it a pushup bra... Just kidding.... I saw the headline and laughed. I knew what u meant... boost

HEHE, FOR SOME REASON I USED MY LANGUAGE

YOU MIGHT BE RIGHT ABOUT AIR FILTER, I HAVE NOT TAUGHT ABOUT IT . TRUCK IS IN A SHOP NOW FOR VALVE ADJUSTMENT, AS FAR AS I KNOW, THERE IS NO MANIFOLD LEEKS. I'M GONNA ASK THEM ABOUT CHECKING COMPUTER FOR THROTTLE READINGS...

    THANKS MUCH FOR HELP .

  10. i once worked on a 98 freightliner with a 3406e cat and the same thing low boost bout 10 so i pressure tested the system found the aftercooler had a thousand leaks replaced it no difference checked all the flex hoses found one of the aluminum pipes to be mangled on the hose ends not sealing replaced them no difference so i disconnected the batteries it worked had boost pressure had to reset the computer i shut it off re started it NO BOOST what the hell so i left it the the wiring on the motor caught fire for some reason i was at my wits ends with this truck ordered the wiring harness from cat put it on and bingo no problems had all the boost it could handel 35psi if i remmember that truck is still running but my point is with the new crap all the electrical stuff theres a lot to go wrong it could be an easy fix but it could be an expensive fix hope you get it fixed try taken the batterys off and letn it sit then try it again but it sounds like there is a leak more then the computer is in limp mode check all the fittings and the turbo shaft play

TURBO SHAFT HAS NO PLAY, I HAVE REPLACED ALL 4 RUBBER AND CLAMPS CONNECTING AIR HOSES. I THOUGHT THAT COMPUTER HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT SINCE EVERYTHING ELSE IS WORKING FINE. AS TO THE WIRE HARNESS, WITCH HARNESS ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?... I WILL ALSO TRY TO RESET THE COMPUTER AND WILL POST HERE ANY CHANGES. THANKS FOR HELP.

  11. hello,

THIS IS MY FIRST POST HERE, I JUST FOUND THIS FORUM AND IT'S A GRATE PLACE FOR INFORMATION AND HELP. I HAVE A 2000 MACK CX613 WITH A E7-460 AND FULLER 13-SPD. MY PROBLEM IS THAT I HAVE A LOW TURBO BUST AS STATED BY ONE OF THE TECH AT MACK SERVICE CENTER. MY TURBO BUST IS AT 20-24 PSI. SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT MY TURBO BUST FOR THAT ENGINE AND THIS YEAR SHOULD BE AT LEAST 30-35 PSI. THEY HAVE PRESSURE TEST MY AIR SYSTEM AT 40 PSI AND THERE WAS NO LEEKS. THEY HAVE ALSO REPLACED BY TURBO SENSOR OR BUST SENSOR THAT CONNECTS TO INLET MANIFOLD. AS FAR AS MY TURBO GOES, WITHOUT PROPER TESTING IT THEY HAVE SAD THAT IT'S OK. I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE I CAN DO TO IMPROVE THE PERFORMANCE OF THIS TRUCK. I'M AT ANOTHER DEALER NOW AND WILL BE DOING A VALVE ADJUSTMENT. THANKS TO THIS SITE I HAVE FOUND OUT ABOUT RICHMOND INJECTION, I'M IN A PROCESS OF THINKING ON GETTING THERE PERFORMANCE TURBO AND STAGE 3 INJECTORS. IF ANYONE HERE GOT IT FROM THEM THEN PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF IT'S WORKING GOOD. IF ANYONE HAVE ANY INPUT ON MY ISSUE PLEASE HELP.

    THANKS IN ADVANCE !

    RAF
