This LTL has a 5x2x3 total 27 forward, 6 reverse from Mack. It was not uncommon for West Coast trucks. Duplex into a 3 speed Brownie.
As for something to actually drive and haul the Superliner is it. It will pull anything and not break a sweat. It dynoed at 1138hp to the wheels years back and had more to go, dyno quit reading! Have to have power steering, A/C, air ride suspension, air ride cab, air ride seat, to be a little comfortable. I drive the RW, Phoenix to Macungie, no way with the LTL or B-755. they would shake my guts out!
Maybe the MH when I get that one together if it were close to stock. I'm going drag racing with it. Really turned up twin turbo E9, Diesel/alcohol, with an HT754 Allison 5 speed automatic.
Yes the 4 that I got are the best looking of the Mack Pack. I am not getting any more.
One more thing if you want something nice, you got to pay or scrounge for parts for years, and parts are getting harder to come by. It took 10 years to get all the parts together when the B was restored about 8 years ago.
I bought the LTL complete for far less than what was in it and had to redo all the sheet metal. Putting another $25K and all my work in it for what you see. It is one of about three in the world that still has all 141 aluminum castings it was born with to make it an LTL.
Thanks for you input, luckily I found a honey pot or two for parts, and between them I’ve been able to get every part I’ve needed or in contact with someone who has some for my one of a kind firetruck. The parts sources weren’t just for firetrucks either...
But like I said thanks for the advice! I have a feeling my dad wouldn’t mind having a collection just like yours but wanted to find a good rig to haul with first. I actually know of a few really good MHs and a Superliner or two I should be able to get my hands on so it sounds like those’ll be the ones I try to convince my dad to pursue... he just really wants an old LTL like yours!

How many speeds in that one? Me and my dad keep looking at tractors and it seems like you've got all 4 we've been interested in... what do you think the perks and drawbacks are of each of them, we intend on hauling a little bit with them, but just our other trucks, figured I'd ask someone who'd know to help influence whichever truck to really pursue.

Had to take a picture when I went to check on my truck and saw her. Supposedly she’s getting ready for the brakes to get done.

Just figured I’d add the few times we’ve had dump trucks and semis and even a little pickup one time, escort us almost when we took one of the firetrucks onto a highway. Really makes me want to replace the old fire radios that don’t work anymore anyways with a CB radio cuz those guys have tried to talk to us that way before. Point being, everyone seems to eventually bow down to the kings of the road, old Macks. Most people are scared and drive cautiously around them, the rest will ensure a safe journey. The smiles and rubbernecking of some little kid in his mom’s minivan as they pass us, or the beaming blue collar worker on his commute slowing down to admire the truck... words can’t give justice to how that feels.
Me and my significant other have said when we don’t work anymore we’re taking as many trucks as we can on a tour of the country one summer, a bunch of different shows, we just need to collect those trucks... she really wants a blue H model to cruise around in one day... really makes me wish I had a ton of money just lying around to be able to accumulate as many as guys like Superdog.

Kinda sad to see them rotting away .. now when I was a young teenager they were the king of the highway...bob
In a way they still are the king of the highway, I don’t think that will ever change... but it really is sad to see these kings decomposing...

I was trying to see if this unit was still around, could only find anything about the Super Pumper and feared this was scrapped! So glad to see it's still around, I just wish they could get together sometime and give a presentation of how they operated back in the day...

Long story short a road test didn’t go well today but I got this beautiful picture. It broke down twice before we decided to just turn around and go back.

TBH trucks for the new Maryland Theater project. They’re always there.

I took this in early October 2018. I love this rig and am most definitely in the long line to buy it if he ever decides to pass it on.
-
Did that rig come with the removable top or was it added on afterwards? Any picture of when it was still in service? It’s a beautiful rig in its own right.
-
Oh believe me, I wish it was mine too. I saw it back at Gerhartz in 2018.

Unfortunately these last few years his piggy bank is getting smaller... too many medical bills are making him realize he needs to do the things he’s wanted to do for years before he can’t anymore. Things are starting to look up, they’re just not quite there yet, and I’m trying to figure this stuff out so when he’s ready he can get the most joy out of whatever he decides on...
Me, I’ve got plenty of time so I figure I’ll help dad on his projects before getting around to my own... hopefully by that point my piggy bank will be big enough I can do just about whatever I want.
Now I’m curious though, how big is a big enough piggy bank for yours? I know a guy locally that has one with a twin stick, but heaven forbid you even bring up the possibility of asking him to part with it... I think I’m more likely to get his working, near factory new, Superdog...
