  1. That is quite a price. I woud have estimated it at about $25-28K. It is probably really worth that on the open market, which is to say I don't think that the purchaser got a bargain - plus the bidder's premium makes this an awfully expensive buy. However, it is all relative, because it in fact did sell to someone who had a bunch more cash or a big affection, or knew something no one else did. What is impoprtant is that it, like all older apparatus, finds a good home where it will be preserved.

  4. I am looking for a Thermostat now ... and NAPA says it is discontinued and not available ... Any other suggestions ? Thanks in advance ...

It is for a 707 C Gasoline Engine ... from fire truck with serial number B95F1117 ...

hi gm try calling john chambers in cashtown, pa. phone 1-717-334-8709 let the phone ring 8-10 times, I'm sure he can help you, good to deal with,I've brought several items from him and knows alot about MACKS,

  5. Have you looked in the NAPA Lighting or the Truck-Lite catalogs? My '45 EF/EG has a fender light, looks like a roof ICC light. Found replacment assemblies at the corner NAPA store, and replacement 'plastic' lenses there, too. If the exisitng lens has a number on it, the amber lens usualy is the same number followed by "A".

My lens was NAPA/Signal Stat 9078, changed over to 9087-A. K+D has a very close 'cousin' in shape, attachment and lens.

thanks for the lead ,is the napa #9078 amber ? also is K+D at napa?

  6. gonna ask a stupid question. are you replacing lenses to amber because you don't have the red ones or you just want to go to amber cause somewhere in my cellar i have a couple of red ones that came off of my  LS-85.

I have the red lenses, just changing to amber, thanks

  7. Just want to introduce myself and my truck here.

Recently purchased a '34 fire truck and I'm now trying to start and understand (and admire) some of the mechanics.

Might need some help from you guys at times. I'm in Europe and both parts and knowledge might sometimes be hard to find.

  9. Hey down under, FIREMACK gave you all the correct info about the mack models, Also their are 2 great books by harvey eckart ,Mack fire trucks 1911 -2005, and MACK model L fire trucks ,lots of photo's & info. try amazon.com for the books. I have a 54 L (last of 15 produced). their where lots of mack fire trucks sold to fire companies in PA.,N.J.AND N.Y.in the day. and as FIREMACK said contact the MACK museum in Allentown, PA

  10. Waxman,

Welcome to BMT. There are quite a few friends from down under on the BMT already, so they should be able to to help you with local suppliers for parts etc. The first thing is to identify your truck, so can check on the cab doors, right side seat support and on the right side frame above the right front spring hanger for the trucks serial number. You most likely have a E model or L model Mack, with a Hale pump. The E series used 2 types of engines, Type 19-45 used Continental engines- types 50-80 used Mack engines. The serial number is typically starts with the model number (for example 19) and S and the serial number so the first model 19 would be 19S1001. On the L model it was similar with model number (85 for example) LS and serial number so for the first model 85, would be 85LS1001. Once you havwe that info you can request the build sheet info and orginal owenr from the mack Museum here in Pennsylvania (inlcude a donation) They will then be able to provide all of the original information about your truck.

Also take pictures and post them here, and we should be able to help you identify it.

    Good Luck

  11. Looking to put west coast style mirrors on my 48 85LS. It's an open cab, with full doors. I know some of the purists will cry, but with the kind of highway driving in the Philadelphia area I anticipate doing, safety overrides originality on this one. So, I guess my question is, anyone ever done it, or have any leads as to where I can get them?

I know exactly what you mean ,the 1st mack I had (47 semi open cab) .It had 4" round mirrors ,couldn't see anything, put new chrome mirror heads 5x7 on the arms and made a great improvement, sold that truck when we acquired a 54 mack LS85 it has junior west coast mirrors on it which we added 5"convex mirrors to the brackets . to go with the west coast mirrors you'll have to adjust the bracket a little to fit the top frame of the door which is open(just use 1 brace at the top of the door). You shouldn't have a problem. For the new mirrors try AW DIRECT (www.awdirect.com) or goggle truck mirrors. also if the truck is judged ,most will not take off points for safety items. If want to see a really neat LS85 goggle hoot gibson 52 mack. good luck
