  1. Hello Mack enthusiasts, My name is Bill Harding. I am a Sergeant with the NYPD's Emergency Service Unit. I am the current care taker of the Unit's prize possesion, a 1930 Mack BG Patrol Truck. The NYPD's Emergency Service Unit was founded in 1930, and 10 of these trucks were purchased to patrol the city. The Emergency Service Unit is a Rescue / Tactical Unit. There is a saying in the NYPD that goes like this: When the public needs help, they call the Police. When the Police need help, they call ESU (Emergency Service Unit). The Truck that we now have is not an original Patrol truck. It was originally purchased by a small township in up-state New York. The NYPD's Emergency Service Unit aquired the vehicle around 1995. Since then, after being restored, it has been used by the Unit as a show piece in Parades and ceramonies, as well as it's most ominous duty, to carry the casket of ESU members who made the ultimate sacrifice to their final resting place. The Emergecy Service Unit lost 12 members on 9-11-01 during the terrorist attack on NYC. Our 1930 Mack carried the caskets or participated in the funeral processions of all 12 lost members. Most recently, my efforts have been directed at restoring the truck to appear the same as the original 1930 Mack vehciles utilized by the Department did. The Mack in our posession does not have doors or a windshield, however, the original 1930 trucks purchased by the NYPD did. I have joined this forum hoping that someone out there could be of some assistance to me with regard to aquiring these items. Thank you for taking the time to read this statement. William Harding Sergeant, NYPD ESU
