  1. Larry find your self some ductal iron pipe and throw it in the lathe at work and do a little math maybe look in your machinist hand book and turn out the rings or get a copy of hit or miss antique engine magazine and look up guys that make old fashion square rings. I bought rings out of Perfect Seal they had the rings I needed on my door step in a couple of days. I collect hit and miss engines and they take square rings on a cast iron piston most have a Dutch lap were the ends over lap and there were ads for rings up to 12" bore the last time I looked in that publication. Or maybe Hemmings?
  2. Larry how about getting some of that exhaust pipe sealant. Check with caterpillar I may be wrong but if I can remember they had some stuff it might be in the one safe source book? How about furnace cement? Thats the best I can think of. Good luck
  3. I looked around and ended up buying that dry type of air cleaner from Watts. It fits the truck and looks like it belongs on my mack.
  4. Thats Casterline's truck a good friend of mine is his father-in-law I can't believe Don would sell it if it had life in it. Don buy's a lot of bigger equipment and I guess he has something to replace this rig.
  5. Freightrain I followed your lead with my b-42 and replaced my 673 with a much later 1980 673 out of a fire truck I did what you did fit with no real modifications other than changing the water pump and front pulley. It was cake compared to putting a 302 ford engine in a highly manipulated model a frame with a ford 33 pickup cab.
  6. About 20 years ago I competed in BR-50 and a box of 50 twenty two shells cost me about 14.00. It was rather expensive shooting my custom made 308 Bear that used 340 Weatherby casings that was for 1,000 yard competition my loads were 3,600 fps with a 240 grain boat tail. I also competed in black powder 300 yard bench rest using a Shilow open sight 45/70 I molded my own tips and used black powder. We also competed with standing shot at a small running metal target with small bore rifles and large bore rifles great fun and once a year I went with my friend and we shot at a van with our automatic weapons we had 30 cal. belt feeds I shot over 5,000 rounds at that shoot you should of seen that van when about 50 guys got done with shooting at it. My best shot was .046 off dead center at 1,000 yards and the best target was .200 of dead center and a 5 inch 10 shot group. I did some 50 yard off hand bullseye using my S&W model 41 and I did some 100 yard bullseye with a 22 cal. rifle was great fun now I can't see the sights.
  7. I ordered a Locar shifter for my hot rod last month and I won't see it till after February. The vega steering box took 2 and half months for that. I'm of the age that back orders like that make me worried I'll finish the damn thing.
  8. I needed a set and I got them from Cook brothers my local Mack dealer they were made of gold as per the price of each one.
  9. Licensed to kill I have the air suspension from a freightliner single axle and I put a lift axle control in my cab to adjust the air pressure I want in the bags I run about 5-10 lbs with my short frame but when I haul on the flatbed I can just reach over and turn it up. Very nice job on your truck.
  10. Just for the insight I owned a cabover white it had an air operated clutch it was very thought provoking in use. Never Ever leave the trans. in gear and try to start the thing and very little clutch feel like you get from a linkage clutch. I DID Not like the setup that same truck had an air operated shifter that I threw out and put a regular 10 speed shift leaver assm. back on. That was almost about 40 years ago and thats what I remember. We would take a pair of vice grips and squeeze the return line a little bit on the external cummins fuel line. If you got carried away the thing would load up on the fuel and start to run away if you let it set and idle to long. I would bring back their nice white trailers and the right side was just black from that old 220 cummins. I'm glad I didn't have to clean the trailer.
  11. Ford carried the hand throttle on the column on into the model a. and a spark adjuster on the left same as a t. The T was a fun car to drive but for ease of driving my 31 coupe is way better.
  12. I have aluminum 22.5's budds on the front of my b model. I checked the king pins for slop and the tie rod ends and payed no more attention after mounting the power steering. I ran into the original owner and he stated that the front axle was off a later mack but I can't remember what model.
  13. Or you finely get a price and they quote a number so high it is absolutely insane. My rule is if I'm done with it an I can't find room under roof down the road it goes and I take the money and piss it away on some other equally worthless hunk of iron that drives me to distraction for untold years.
  14. I 'm building a model a ford hotrod and I want to use a coupe or roadster body. For any resemblance of a body I can afford there is more rust than metal. Rust never sleeps I can relate to your predicament Other dog.
  15. A guy I know was telling me his sister died from a cancer and the hospital listed on the death certificate she past away from covid George razed a stink and they said tough he hired a lawyer and got the death certificate corrected. I don't trust anyone that has anything to do with this covid bullshit and I wonder about the pills my own doctor is prescribing to me.
  16. My dad had ford pickups with the 300 six I liked the power and torque they produced. They were supposed to be better than the 292 chevy straight six.
  17. The show was great really nice weather a good turn out of trucks.
  18. I'm going to try to make it, I hope it's as big as last year.
  19. Kein trucking brought in the new caterpillar equipment and every one had the exhaust taped shut but I can't recall any of the local company's doing anything to the exhaust. I hauled some equipment and never thought about taping the exhaust closed.
  20. I spent many a mile in F's and R's 237 and 5 speeds in the 70's and I never liked the 5 speed transmission. When I got in a 10 speed road ranger WOW and when I got to drive a 13 speed teamed up with a 350 Cummins I really liked that setup.
  21. I own a restored car so I joined several sites that pertain to my car brand and for the most part the one has been very good very few idiots. Now the other site I posted a valid answer to someone's problem and I was heckled over my spelling. I just look at the posts now and I most likely will never offer to give advise on there again. At my age I'm more worried about staying mobile then my spelling. This site I like and have enjoyed being here.
  22. Boy does those pictures remind me of the amount of time and trial fitting ,making parts up to put power steering on my b model. I love looking at other people's ingenuity. Nice job Oldspwr
  23. As a last resort maybe look up a little machine shop and with luck they can make a new one.
  24. I mounted a power steering box on my B model it was from a Mack fire truck and I adapted two steering shafts and ujoints. I own a job shop machine shop and I used most of my machinery and welders to do the job. I ended up with lots of time in it but about 600.00 in parts. I have been driving the truck for about four years and it works for me and I see no abnormal wear on my steers. When I was done with the front and after I slid in the air ride rear I aligned the front my way. I had training on front alignments sometime in the years past.
