  1. Ok, We are moving right along! Door glass will be here soon, front and rear windows are done, Gus is etched and primed, the motor runs...gauges ordered, lights ordered, and we will be heading to paint late this week! Now, to keep grandma at home! The video we made is also done...and Robert and I are working from sun up to sun down on the weekends to get Gus finished! Things left to do: Paint, sew the seats, finish prepping the fenders, hood, and grill, and finish installing interior items. Goal: To be completed by June 1st! So we have three weeks of test runs! I am stressing as we are running right down to the wire... I CAN'T WAIT! Broke, and need a drink after this project! Ha! Ms. Tracy D.
  2. I was lucky enough to know my great grandpa Gus and I truly miss my grandpa Jerry. I wish they both could be here to watch Gus run for the first time in 44 years. I have learned a lot in a short lifetime, but I have to honestly say that taking ownership of this old truck and restoring her...listening to my grandma tell the stories of the road crews and the Mack trucks, has taught me a true lesson in life...never take anything for granted, take time to listen, and appreciate the work that was done before us. I've had a lot of great moments in life as well as bad ones... but getting Gus#9 back on the road, and surprising my grandma will be the greatest! If this old truck has done anything for my family and friends, it has allowed my grandma to "remember" the good ole days, and she can tell it to those who truly appreciate it! We have been recording my grandma as she tells the stories, so we can put it in the final restoration video for her. I was born in the wrong era The greatest men, women, and trucks I've ever known are vanishing with time, I just wish the younger generations had the values that we were raised with. Keep the wheels rolling my friends! Thanks! Tracy
  3. That is awesome that your wife helps out! There are not many of us garage-women out there anymoreI And I cannot wait to take it on its first test drive! I am so glad we are putting in a temporary diesel in this truck! I know how to drive a clutch....but a double-clutch...I am going to need a hockey helmet and a life vest for when I kill it and slam my head into the steering wheel! Ha! Thank god for lots of flat land in ND...I have all kinds of space to practice when we put the old EN330 back in it! Truck on!
  4. I found a resource for anyone looking for vintage "reasonably priced" glass for the 1946-1950 Mack EG trucks (or any vehicle). I've hunted everywhere for side window patterns, and these guys have it. Hope it helps! Now off to find a vintage bulldog for the Grill! Tracy https://www.sandersreproglass.com
  5. More pictures....We need to just move into the shop! I know this truck forwards, backward, and inside out, right down to remembering which bolts go where...I now completely understand why my grandpa invented cuss words when working on these old trucks...they will give you a damn run for your money right down to the last cent! I think the other women in the office avoid me...I hear "she welds...she works on trucks...she has grease in her nails.." Ha! I think it's funny. Less drama in a shop... Tracy
  6. Here is my great grandpas fleet of Mack EGX trucks.. Gus#9 is in the picture, her driver Ben is in the picture... my great grandpa is in front of#1, and my grandpa Jerry is standing in front of #3.. I have the only remaining Mack of this fleet.. handed down 4 generations.
  7. From the album: TracyD

I still have a few areas to polish after the welds, but not too bad for original grill! I HATE RUST!
  8. Here is a couple of before and after pics (primer only) and over 28 hours of work on these three pieces....what a chore! I HATE RUST!
  9. We have been working day and night on Gus #9, and last night, we got to hear the little 4b diesel run! We are moving right along, here are some updated pictures.
  10. Does anyone know what type of electric windshield wiper kit I can use on this truck (46 Mack EGX truck?) Thanks! Tracy
  11. Hi there! I used: Single-stage Euro Race Green paint and I mixed a leaf green single stage with it to get the right color green (the whole truck will be this color). If you order it by the gallon, it will also recommend the hardener, and clear coat most commonly used with it. It was about 67.00 per gallon, and my truck will take about 3 to 4 gallons because I am doing light/sanded multiple coats. 12. Hi I know this is from one of your older posts, but I have an EGX model 1946 truck that is in need of side, front, and rear windows...do you still have the patterns by chance? Thank you! Ms. Tracy Diefenbach
  13. Yes it will! We plan on taking her home in it after the parade...for some privacy because I know she will be in tears! It will be an automatic for now, so she can even drive it if she wants too!
  14. The 4bt is going into an EGX model because the original EN330 engine is going in for a full rebuild. (Once I save my pennies). So this is a temporary fix to get her running before June 29th. The 4bt was used in the oil fields in a sand conveyor ND, and was purchased after a company thought it was bad...turns out it was not bad...just a bad mechanic lol. It is definitely a tight fit..had to change the alternator bracket to fit in between the fenders and the steering box. Ya never know...I might like her better as a diesel! Ha! Especially if Gus is going to haul antique tractors to the local shows! Tracy
  15. Yep! I have a lot to learn about old motors... but I can at least weld and do paint and body!
  16. We have two grills for the truck but repairing them is the challenge! More modifications!
  17. Thank you! I hope to have it done by June! Lots of hard work ahead!
  18. This is my families fleet of 1944-1949 Mack EGX trucks. My great grandfather is standing in front of truck #1, my grandpa is standing in front of truck #3, and Ben Rowley is standing in front of Gus#9 way down the line!
