  1. You messed up by not putting the legal disclaimer on your post..."No lobsters were harmed during the photo shoot". The animal rights people are gathering in your driveway to protest.
  2. HeavyGunner, Your age is definitely a factor. At my age, the choice is very clear. I don't enjoy any part of this career anymore and it is time to step away. I'm not sure what I'll be stepping in when I step away but I am willing to scrape it off my shoe and move on. Seems like every day something happens that validates my decision. Today was no exception.
  3. Can someone record and post the segment? We don't have History channel . Would like to see it.
  4. Billy T, You have made some excellent points. I hadn't looked at the issue from that perspective but it is no different than forcing "early retirement" on a long term employee who is an asset to the company so the bottom line on a balance sheet looks more favorable since his inexperienced replacement is paid a much lower salary. Just happened to a friend of mine. I do not want to give the impression that I think I am God's gift to the transportation industry; however in the past 42 years of earning a living in the cab of a truck I am the first to admit that I have survived some "errors in judgement" and have made it a point to learn from the experience and not repeat them. That cannot be legislated or replaced by technology no matter how the powers that be frame it "in the interest of safety" (in my humble opinion).
  5. My solution to the ELD controversy can be seen in the trucks for sale section of BMT. There are other factors that led to this decision but the Dec. 18th deadline is the one that clinched it. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has had enough.

  7. Fascinating article and gallery as well. Great that an organization took the interest to preserve the site in such great detail as to tell the story so completely when the trend these days seems to be to erase past events in history as though they never happened. Thanks for another great post!
  8. I had forgotten the sensation of feeling like my jewels were caught in a vice until I watched the video. Thanks, Paul, for bringing it all back.
  9. Heard the ABC is cancelling Dr. Blake Mysteries. Maybe you should approach them with some episodes of Mrs. Mack, the reality show. Could start you off on a whole new career path.
  10. Allowed logging company to use my driveway for access to tract of timber behind my property. They hired a local contractor to spread a load of gravel in my driveway to repair what the loggers tore up. I happened to look out the window and see this mid 80's R Model coming in. The owner did a double take when he got toward the house and saw what was in the "Mack Shack " Didn't take much to convince him to wait until I grabbed my phone to take some glamour shots as he was already doing so with his phone. Truck shows are nice buy it's equally nice to see them in their "work clothes "
  11. Not a lot of flat ground in that part of the finger lakes where this company hauled milk. Most of the cows on the dairy farms they serviced had two legs longer on one side then the other from standing on the side hills.
  12. First driving job I ever had was for this company, Alnye (known as Aldrich and Nye in those days). I was 19 years old and had no idea what I was doing. It took 15 hours to do the milk run and I remember it paid $23.50. Should probably have given a little more thought to my career choice right then and there.
  13. Success used to be based more on the quality of the work you did, not just how fast you did it. Lord, take me back to when I understood how things were done cause I sure don't get it now!
  14. Thanks to all for the good wishes, HOWEVER this you tube link best explains why I quit having birthdays.
  15. except the part trying to figure out why the mounted tires refused to go back on. that's the part WE enjoyed most!
  16. thanks Bob but I quit having birthdays when I got past my "best by" date. The B-42 was born six weeks before I was and is in much better condition.
  17. Former co-driver who was an expert at the art of being comfortable.
  18. German Shepherds can be counted on to keep your bed from being stolen. We haven't lost one yet.
  19. With 13,000 miles on it over nearly 60 years, probably only called out to get cats down from trees.
  20. The only reason I have not been in the running for a Darwin Award for some of my DUH moments is that so far I have managed to survive them.
  21. Glad we were able to play a small part in keeping your project moving forward. Couldn't agree more with your statement about BMT. It is a great resource with a great bunch of folks who are more than willing to share their knowledge and experience. Can't put a price on that.
  22. That smile on her face says it all. Mission accomplished and well done. We all enjoyed taking the journey with you.
  23. Heads up Willie dog. There's your next project!
