  1. Plus with the cooler still installed, and no EGR going through it, the cooling system capacity is larger.

the way I have mine is with a plate like fjh was saying and I don't have a code present. I left the water circulating through it for the extra capacity because I don't like to lower the coolant volume.

  2. My last set went a little over 325,000 coulda went a little longer, but they were starting to get a little thin for my liking.and tires are not something i fool around with .I stated using centramatics right after the original set of tires came off, what an improvement! i swear by them now, not being funny here, but i do a LOT of backing into some wicked tight places,so i'm kinda hard on steers, just cant help it sometimes. My current set is at 288,767 right now and still look great! i run "lug" type drives, mainly personal preference, plus i do a lot of canada in the winter, hang a lot of chains, which is also tough on tires. I talked the company i'm leased to into trying centramatics on the trailers we pull too, they could'nt be happier with them! course' it helps the average outbound load i pull is in the neighborhood of 15,000 lbs. but we have one 2006 great dane 53' 102" with its original tires! and i'd run them anywhere in the country......Mark

Thanks for the info guys. I like the Yokohama but I like saving a little $$ when I can. I don't need lug tires because on the Houston to Chicago turns snow and ice aren't really a factor and I heard on one of the XM radio programs that straight tread drive tires give an improvement on fuel mileage but I haven't found mine yet

  3. maybe its them heavy ass granades

I bet the grenades are pretty heavy. Gambi have you tried the Double Happy brand tire? That's a goofy name for a tire but my neighbor uses them and swears they wear as good as my name brand. Yokohama cost me about $2800 per truck installed but he claims his Double Happy are only about $2000 out the door. If his dealer had a full set I would probably have tried them this time.

  4. I run michelins myself, always have had REALLY good luck with them both steer and drives, when my CX was new, it came with goodyears i only got a little over 200K outta' them ,was kinda' disappointed........Mark

Mark how many miles do you usually get?? do you run centramatics? I run the Yokahoma straight tread trailer tires and usually get 300,00 or so but we go to customers with some very rough and neglected parking lots and loading racks so sometimes I spin a good bit.

Years ago I kept having dishing probs on my drive tires with the 613 so when they couldn't find anything wrong with alignment I put centramatics on and it cured the dishing tires plus rode better and longer life for tires. I run them on everything now.

  5. I did forget to say that the guages (except the speedometer and tach) can be replaced. Also, if you don't have some guages (for instance boost pressure) and you install a cluster that does the guage will not work unless the VECU is reprogrammed to enable that guage.

Thanks rhasler. I tried the bone yard panel and all is well with it. I didn't want to throw away $350 on a new panel if that wasn't the prob.

  6. i think mackpro is doing just fine where he is,

a dealer that understands customer service, and employ's that take pride in their work....

i think the difference between mcbride and the big city shops

in the city you talk to the clerk that writes down your info, and makes notes for the service manager, who has about 15 seconds to talk to you, then you wait some where, till the acounting person comes for you, about an hour after your truck is done and parked out side.

at mcbride i pull up to mackpro's door usually he's ready for me so i pull it inside, talk to the guy that is actually going to work on my truck, when he is done he says jump in there and crank it up, if every thing is to my likeing, i back it out go hook my trailer, stop on the way out to sign the bill that goes to my wife, i think, and im on my way

THATS CUSTEMER SERVICE IN MY BOOK

That's the kind of kind of business I like and wish he were close to me.

I have a Mack dealer 40 miles east and a Mack dealer 40 miles west of me but they're both like going to a foreign land. I'll second the man's opinion about this site because I too think this about the best site I've found. There's no telling how many gray hair MackPro and fjh have prevented me from getting over problems on my truck the local shops couldn't find let alone correct.

rhasler is showing me how to fix a gauge problem now but the local Mack shop says I have no problem.

  7. In my experience the guage cluster is generally at fault, but there is no real way to test it prior to replacing it. You can do a manual guage sweep by doing the following: Depress and hold the Mode button for longer than 2 seconds (with the ignition ON and the engine NOT running) to initiate a self-diagnostic routine. The routine includes positioning all gauges (with the exception of the air pressure gauge) to the 12 o'clock position, activating all indicator lights and LCD segments for 5 seconds and activating an audible alarm for 2.5 seconds.

The seatbelt light is controlled by the circuit board in the guage cluster, so it's activation indicates that the cluster is bad. It's not difficult to replace, requires no programming, only tools needed are #27 and #8 torx drivers. Unfortunately there are no servicable parts inside other than the bulbs.

Thanks rhasler. Maybe my friend was right then. The company I'm leased to has a few wrecked visions in their bone yard so I can borrow a panel and check it out. thanks again for your help. Jerry.

  8. Gentlemen my o4 Vision is turning on the seat belt warning light and warning buzzer when I hit a bump and all instrument gauges are going dead. I can't find a loose connection and it goes back to normal when I bump the dashboard with my fist. It acts like a loose wire or connection but I can't find the problem so does anyone have a suggestion on how to check this out?? A friend suggested maybe a broken circuit board in the instrument panel so does that sound right??

It only happens when moving and the computer diagnosis at Mack Houston doesn't show anything wrong. Thanks Jerry

  9. Man!!! I got one loaded up and ready to go,but don't want to offend anyone-especially Vision386...how old did you say he was?..18?

I don't know about Vision386 but I don't think he was kidding about the child. I don't like to kid around about my family and don't think he does either so I'll excuse myself and STFU in this thread.

  10. That's a precious pic you have there. My 7 year old grandotter comes over and helps Grampaw when I'm home and her usual bribe is either McDonald or Dairy Queen for cones so I know what you mean.

BTW--I'd save that pic for sure.

  11. i don't think my engine brake is what it should be????????????

on a 6% grade grossing 72,000 if im run in 6th gear thats about 25mph i still have to touch the brakes now and then to keep it from over reving, in 7th about 30mph i have to use brake quite a bit, in 8th gear around 40mph i have to hold constant preasure, to keep it off the rev.

i know some engine brakes are not as good as other, same make, modle, year, miles, and so on

i don't have a lot of experriance out west, so im not sure if this is normal, or is something wrong with my E.B.

GRANDDAD, taught me get in low enough gear you run just below the rev limit and never touch the brake, but granddad never went west.

you don't have any problem bigen that's normal for a Mack.. Speedy is right.

  12. wishin i would have laid up at lake powell till suday instead of running on down to phoenix, for a monday del.

scared to brag, turn the key go to work, fixen a broken lite wire on my trailor now and then.

got my nephew washen and greesing it, i text him a couple day before i get home, and when i wake up its ready to go.

kinda hard to set at home when its clean and greesy.

    hows the vision treating you.

i do wish my vision would have been the truck this one is.

I'm glad to hear it's going good with you. I've had no trouble since the fan hub bearings went out so I'm a happy camper. The fan hub is all that's went wrong since last winter and the coolant problems so I'm turning my Windy every week. Heading out to service her now and give her a bath. Good luck my friend I was just worried about you. Jerry

  13. Yea you aint kidding. I will be going out of state. and have a 100mile radius. I will be in NJ, DE and PA. I dont even need cargo insurance. Im just hoping i can find some better rates somewhere. Cuz progressive can suck my ###. Just for that im going to take my car off of progressive and put it on state farm. I dont want to give them any more of my money with their BS quote.

MackMann you might try this young lady. I'm in Texas and found insurance close to home but while I was shopping she had a good quote when I called them.

  14. ive had some dump trucks with 460's in them, i found you can't drive them like a mack, no lugging power,

if your young enough to drive it like you stole it they perform a lot better, kind of like an old detroit (671) slam your finger in the door every morning and get mad, and it will do a good job for ya

that's the way I have to drive mine too bigen. When I bought it I never had a no-lug Mack before so I dogged it too bad. Now that I run it like an old style Cummins it does fine.

Mackman I think you'll like it once you get used to it. I love mine

  15. I guess that means if it is broke don't fix it. That's a pretty big increase.

I can't give all the credit to the plate for better fuel mileage because at the same time I blocked it I put on a new turbo. Maybe the turbo and block combined to help?? I've been having exceptionally good luck with the old gal since fjh and MackPro talked me through the coolant pushing and turbo blowing nightmare. I had the truck at local Mack 5 different times with no improvements but then you guys here at Big Mack talked me through and we fixed it.

  16. I got two customers running with the plate. the one claims to be getting 40 bucks a day better fuel milage with egr code The other more power, but no milage gain as of yet with an egr code! Why you have no egr code is a real mistery as 68 mentioned before its real odd!Having said that the egr code took along time to come on with the one truck several hundred miles but it did show up.

According to what I've read I think I was supposed to have a 4-9 code but so far there's no code so maybe as you guys say the sensor is bad. My fuel mileage went up on average about 1.25 mpg and I have slightly more power.

  17. Yeah they just nit-pick trucks nationwide for a 3 day revival. I ran US 69, I-30, I-40, I-55, and I-57 from Houston to the Windy as usual with no probs. Ark was raising cane on I-30 but nothing else going on from there to Windy. Ark just motioned me on through and I was stunned because I always run flammable placards.
