  1. I am searching for information on this type filter. It looks to be factory installed on this cxn613. I believe it is a aset engine (427). How often should this filter be changed? I had the truck serviced at the speedco a month or so ago and they told me they dont change those. What is this filters purpose? I have never seen one on my other trucks (detroits) but this mack I bought has one. I am starting today doing the service myself due to I had to go to 5 different oil change shops and nobody had all the filters. I refuse to use the service department at my local Mack dealership due to a recent problem I had with them in the past. If service was free, I wouldnt go there. Honesty and customer respect still means something to me. They do not know the meaning. But thats another issue.

Does Baldwin, Wix, luberfiner make replacements for these centrifugal filters? How do you change them?

Any info would be a big help.

    Thanks,

    AC

AC--The tech lied to you because Speedco is supposed to change ALL filters. Maybe if you ask a shop manager to stock the filters they would accommodate you that's what I did and Speedco and Truck King--Houston both started stocking them. I keep a new centrifugal in my toolbox just in case.

When I'm in a bind and need a service job sometimes I use Petro or TA truckstops. If they don't have my filters in stock they go to the parts store and don't charge me a service call for going to get them.

  2. great ideas guys. i will try the jumper wire and see what happens. i fired the truck up this a.m. and it idled for 20 minutes and nothing happened. yesterday evening it wouldnt idle 3 minutes. i am caught up with harvest right now so i will look into it further and post back.

    thanks guys

I forgot to mention the jumper wire. That's exactly how the oil pressure shut down acts.

  3. my mack started shutting down today own its own. the shutdown and electrical malfunction light illuminates and then it shuts off. the over ride button does not work. it will die anyhow. it is not low of water and i tried unhooking the sensor that plugs into the coolant resevior with no luck. it idid this twice before in one day two months ago and then no problems until today.

any one ever have this problem??

    thanks.

when I had the identical problem on a 97 CH it was the oil pressure shut down sensor -- the one on the rear side of the oil filters base. It didn't show a code and would sometimes run a month or 2 with no problems then again it might shut down every few minutes.

  4. thats cool. i was thinking ecm going bad.

bigen my old mess has always pushed a little oil through the harness and it comes out the ecm connection so I don't sweat it. On 15,000 oil change mine uses about 1 gallon of oil or a little less so it doesn't take much leak to look like a lot. I'm glad MackPro said where it comes from because I've worn callouses on my back sliding under trying to get a better look behind the oil cooler.

did you get the new east coast large car home yet?? I've been busy running short loads and haven't been able to keep up with your new large car adventure.

  5. Mark I feel for you. My worst experience ever----Years ago I was attempting to make delivery in Braintree Mass but couldn't find the customer so I called them for directions. After having an experience like yours and talking to the owner, his son, then 2 different local delivery drivers they all agreed they didn't know how to get me there from where I was.

I flagged down a city cop and showed him the address on my bills and he started laffing and pointed to the building I was standing beside. The dumba$$ customer was in the building I was parked in front of to use the payphone. The building had the wrong name on their sign and there was no number displayed but I was supposed to know anyway I guess. Nowadays I use my GPS but sometimes it puts a load of flammables into residence or low weight surroundings.

  6. I have a 96 Mack CH613 with a E7-427. From time to time, the speedo will all-of-a-sudden start reading exactly half the speed I'm going. It did it for a couple weeks, and then the problem went away for the most part, but occasionally it will just drop down to half-speed. There seems to be no rhyme nor reason to it. Any suggestions?

When ours does that the speedo sensor needs to be cleaned then it's good to go for another couple of years.

  7. This thread got me to looking closer at my little bit of paradise here on the eastern end of L.I.. Most of the NAPA parts stores are out of business, most all auto wrecking yards are closed due to local laws. The farms around me sell land to keep afloat nd than get there acreage taxed at the same rate as the "developed" land. The powers the be won't let a rail /truck freight line be build were the R.R. and I 495 are only 1/4 mile apart. Gas stations are closing because of unmeetable local requirements for spill containment. Grummans / U.S. Navy property was slated to be keep as a manufacturing site and now is going to be cleared to be a park. Is it this way all over or is it just here? Paul

41chevy it must be spreading. There's only one local salvage yard left the other 2 couldn't comply with the regs. We used to have one each Carquest and NAPA stores but both were put out by AutoZone. The remaining bone yard had to put a privacy fence around the yard and had to put drip pan containers under each unit so no oil or fuel gets on the ground. Everyone of our mom & pop service stations are gone so now we have to use Walmart or Quik-Lube for maintenance and use a tire dealer for tire repair. I miss the mom & pop stores because I think service and product were both better and they were my neighbors and friends.

  8. What a shame,

We got guys on this site lookin for parts for F Model cabs !!! are you kidding me!!! Mack does not make parts for these trucks any more. What the hell is going on in America today, I remember as a kid (mid 60's) going to Newark NJ Mack with my dad, you could have bought a set of fenders for a Bulldog for God sakes!!! I guess I should start lookin for donor trucks for my R Model's. I don't Know maybe it's just me maybe I'm old school not up with the times? All I know is this, yesterday my Freightliner Rep. informed me that I can not buy any new Glider kits unless I use a engine that meets 2010 em's.so now why even waste your time any more!! We all better wake in this country an soon!! Tell me if I should sign myself in or if some of you guys out there feel the same way as I do

    Thank's BULLHUSK

I feel exactly the same. The first Mack dealer I used (also in the 60's) never had to special order for me. Mack closed at 5pm but in an emergency they would leave parts for me at the Greyhound bus station because Greyhound was open 24 hours. Now I have to wait 2 days minimum for parts plus go in and sign a mortgage on the farm before they will order the parts.

  9. Any idea on how much these kits cost? (ballpark)

The kit was $54 at Houston Mack but the one I bought at Mack in Beaumont, Texas was $128 so shop it around if you can. I wish I had read the instructions before installing the first set because if you don't install them like rhasler has instructed they can cause coolant push out.

  10. topped off with fuel, everything loaded, including bridges and modified pipe steaks, except 6ft lumber tarp wouldn't fit in small boxes, that don't break my heart.

    weight is 31,560 mission accomplished.........

That's a good looking set up and the weight sounds good. I always did better on rates with a drop especially after I learned about picking up LTLs

I see how your truck looks with fenders so I better get off my lazy can and put mine on. Somebody stole my fender brackets before I could get them installed so I got disgusted with them and didn't put them on.

  11. Ahh...yea, 30. Thanks to everyone... :thumb:

The b-day was good...had family over today and cooked out, ate too much... Nice to see that I'm not quite too old to still get cards with cash in them though.

Happy birthday. I seem to remember 30 but that was about 30 ago. :pat: There's a lot of wisdom in what bigen said about it. :loldude:

  12. Hi Jerry was just wondering do you haul fuel additives or pretty much everything. I've seen a few H T trucks in the Citgo Terminal I pull out of which is about 80 miles from Chicago

Howdy neighbor. Yeah H T pulls a lot out of Citgo but not me. I'm mostly Exxon or Citgo oil & lubes into Cicero or else I pull Huntsman various chemicals going north from Tx and then mostly bonding agents out of Morris back to San Antonio or dallas. I go to our Channahan yard at the Dedicated trailer wash every week or so. Man the construction jams on 55 & 57 are killing me. I think you'll like the forum I haven't seen a bad egg so far.:):WELCOME:

  13. Man,i see something like this just about everyday!pure frikkin' stipidity! i've always wondered about the cost of all these daily "accidents" too, i know of one great big carrier (swift) that has a "junkyard" just south of phoenix,AZ there must be (no kidding) 5 or 600 wrecked trucks and trailers in there! trailers with the roofs peeled back, broke in half,burnt-up,turned over you name it! i read a statistic from the safety director of JB HUNT a few years back, that said with a carrier the size of JB HUNT something like 3 to 400 reportable accidents is an "acceptable' number holy shit! 3/500 accidents A DAY is acceptable? not in my mind it aint! but then again,i'm just one guy with one truck, what the hell do i know!..................Mark

I saw 3 of those driveway mishaps just last week. Stevens had 1 and Swift had the other 2. On the same trip I saw a Pam Trans in Little Rock back over a newer KW huge car at the Pilot and another Pam had backed over a fuel pump at the J in Texarkana. I'm no male chauvinist but I couldn't help noticing 4 of the drivers were lardass wimmin from the Obama tribe.

  14. Greetings from a gas hauler in Southwest Michigan,

Joined up about a month ago and haven't really had the time to really do any posts but wanted to say hello to everyone. I have always been a big fan of mack trucks and I have drove em throughout my career. I have really enjoyed browsing through the site looking at all the nice antique bulldogs I really look forward to making new friends and hope I can contribute to the site as well. :-)

Hello from a SE Texas fellow tanker yanker. Welcome to the board and I hope you enjoy being around here as much as I do. I'm an owner operator with an 04 Vision running mostly Houton/Beaumont--Chicago turns. These guys have a lot of valuable knowledge and have helped me a lot since I've been here.

  15. do your homework i didnt and a 2004 allmost put me under.

2004 are cheep and most have 300 to 400 thousand miles, there is a reason, warrenty runs out at 300,000 and you cant keep it going, egr cooler 2 grand, mass flow tube another grand, they usually go togather, they push coolant out allways, then crack egr cooler.

late 03 thru 05 are the worst,06 and 07 are better, but still egr motors. cx are worse than ch

any time you find a mack with less than 800,000 miles find out why they got rid of it, nobody gets rid of a good mack with less than 800,000 miles

if you dont mind their age the 1999 thru 2002 are the best ever built. (pre emission)

if you are a good mechanic, and have $5,000 to $8,000 to spend on cooling upgrades, and bypass the egr system. they make dependable trucks.

if your like me and have to have all work done in a shop, you can figure $10,000 to $15,000 to fix the problems.

research anything egr, mostly in modern mack trucks on this site to get a better understanding.

    hope this helps. good luck

Yeah buddy I can testify to that bigen.

  16. i tried gravity feed. i filled my fuel filter bowl and fuel was reaching the front of the injector block but mothing was pumping out. my shut off lever was pretty stuck i think i need to lube up all of the injector lifters and wat not. i only started it on eithe once to make sure it would run and it did, sounded nie too. but getting fuel into it was my problem, whih is why i wanted to put a pump on it. i have heard from a lot of people that it needs to be pressue fed, but u guys say gravity will work? i m confused

In days gone by I have done 673 and 711 exactly like Rob says and it worked fine for me on gravity too.

  17. All you guys are asking for is to get to overhaul your engine before it is time to overhaul. The deals you are using is only shorten the life of your engine. saw it many times. If you had enough gauges like a pryometer and boost you may run some longer but most people will mash on their motor not relizing that it is over fueling and bumping the timing up and that increases the exhaust heat and it increases the cylinder pressures. The first sign of trouble is excessive blow by and then you will find it smokes more on start up from weak compression and then oil consumpion is next or a burnt piston.I have set HP up as much as any one ever will in my younger days but now with engines costing up to 16000.00 for a inframe with a dropped valve and bad turbo i cant see that it is worth it. If one is low on power i think the problen needs repaired and then think about a mack engine. It is not a big cube engine to start with but puts out more HP than most other engines that size so that means they are on the edge of destuction any way. I have alot of respect for a small cube engine that works like it does never complains about what you do to it. My 2 cents and 40 years of working on engines glenn

That's been my experience over the past 35+ years dealing with turned up trucks too theakerstwo.

  18. from big springs,nb. to larame,wy. is hard pull for 200 or more miles, i was pretty much flat on the mat for 3+ hrs.

when i wasn't thinking about coolant i was thinking elk.

I haven't run that route in 25 years but it used to be hell with a super 250. My old mess is doing good nowadays I just wish the AC was better but it stays fairly cool. I never hit an elk but I know for sure a deer will take the shutters and fender out on a B61 so I can only imagine what an elk would do to one of our modern fiberglass rides at 75-80mph.

I don't care for brokers either. I never saw over a couple who were honest. The worst I ever dealt with were with produce out of south Florida and produce out of Califrooty. The best I ever dealt with were Jesse James in Salinas, Ca and Commercial in Haines City, Fla but both are passed on now. I think all the brokers and logistic companies since deregulation are crooks.

  19. now i understand the reason for the fan kiking on at a stop. i was just getting agravated wen it was not kicking in wen i need it.

i had an airbag failure on the trailer sat nite, put me way behind on my monday 8am del. in brigham,ut. had to run 75@80 mph from central nebraska all the way about 700 miles. exhaust temp ran between 1000 and 1200 all the way, i kept thinking about egr cooler.

day's of thunder, was kinda fun but getting to old for that..

hello bigen what about the 1000 to 1200 pyro reading?? with 80,000 gross and running @ 75 mine never gets over 900 in a hard pull. coming across from Yucca thru Kingman on 40 and down 93 to Phoenix then 10 on home it never gets over 900 in middle of the day ambient temps. I like to run nights then it drops considerably. I've got a Behr electric fan clutch and engine temp is running constant 210 or so. It sounds like you're having good luck these days and that's good to hear.

  20. In that time frame my local Mack shop was a Mom&Pop where Pop ran the shop and raised 3 boys who knew every part for a Mack and how to install them. Mom and her sister sold trucks.

Our local Detroit-GMC shop was the same story with his 2 sons. Both the shops used books and went extinct about the time they all had to go to computers..

Corporate shops have replaced both dealers now but it was fun while it lasted. I was always amazed when I went in and ask for something that even the children knew where to go get my parts off the rack without looking at a book and how to bill it out.

  21. Sounds like it may have a bad ground at the dash cluster, but usually the cluster is bad and has to be replaced. The cab air filter is in the hvac panel. Here is a picture of how to remove the cover, the filter is a blue colored mat on the right side of the evaporator and heater cores.

when I had that buzzer problem recently it was the cluster like you said. I kept the bone yard panel in it and haven't had a problem since.
