Like Jim said, its an E6 350 4 valve. I have the same thing  a 1988 R688ST .  Don't knock your 237 though. Its not fast, but it will get you home every time. lol

  2. Great question! With all the RD talk lately I was going to ask the same thing myself.

I have 2 RD's and an R . The only info I could contribute, and I'm not sure if it is limited to all R's an RD's is …..

The frame is approx. 10.5 inches on the RD . Approx 9 inches on the R. In my case they are both double frame.

The only other difference that I see is the way the fuel tanks are mounted. The RD has a different front mounting bracket. The R just has your normal tank straps.

    My 85 RD has factory 38 000 # rears .

Hopefully there will be more input from the experts.

  3. This Granite has been for sale here in Ontario for a while now. Its way too much for me, but I thought it was a cool truck.

Anyway, doing some investigating it looks like it was a former FDNY fire truck. I'm not positive , but sure looks similar.

There is even a switch for the strobe lights. That are not there now.

With the heavy rears I doubt it started life in Ontario.

I thought some might find it interesting. Possibly might even know the truck.

Pics of truck and a link to the local ad here

Actually if you look at the half dogs on the mirrors they were copied of the original dog. Big ears and pointed tail.

You know all of us on here have been staring at these dogs asses to long!

Wow, I didn't notice the tail and ears.

The more I learn about the little details that Mack used. The more I appreciate my period correct bulldogs.

    Thanks for the info Ron.

  5. About a year ago Ron (39 Baby Mack) made a very interesting post about the Bulldog on the hood not being symmetrical. I found it very interesting, and upon further investigation, I found the dogs on my 85,86 and 88 were all the same , not symmetrical.

    This is the original thread

    http://www.bigmacktrucks.com/index.php?/topic/38273-gold-dog/page-2?hl=gold%20dog post # 22

To add to Ron's story, I was looking at some mirrors I took off my 1988. I was amazed to see the mirrors match the dog on the hood. The left mirror is the same as the left side. Right the same as right. The dogs are not the same.

This might help with the mystery as to why the dogs face forward.???

I bought 2 new mirrors recently and found that they have the exact same dog on both mirrors, just reversed.

  6. Welcome aboard Jeff. I'm sure you've tried all the local truck parts like Traction or Fort Garry. The only thing I might try is PAI in Mississauga (905)795-0696

They are easy to deal with, and if you have a part # it won't take them long to tell you if they could get it.

    Good luck with your search.

I don't discriminate, I would love to see pics of an old Dodge

  7. I kinda like flappers to. But I'm sure, just like everything else you've done, it will look great. Whatever you do.

I can't help with your left stack mount. But I have access to 2 Generals , if you need pics or any info let me know.

Thanks for keeping this thread alive. It's been very good from the very first post, and I love seeing the progress.

    Keep up the good work!!

  8. Welcome aboard ! Very nice looking float, it will really be set off nice with the headache rack and fenders.

I don't know if this helps but I have an 1988 R model and an 86 RD. They both have blocks in the front suspension from the factory.

  9. It was probably replaced with a new truck purchased with a Federal Grant. If this is the case, part of the Federal Grant programs (funds provided by several sources such as the US Fire Administration, Homeland Security, etc..) requires that older apparatus that no longer meet NFPA Standards must be taken out of service and may not be resold (or even given) to another Fire Department. It is a really shitty deal because there are so many trucks out there (the one pictured being a perfect example) are very usable and desired by very poor, rural fire departments that dont have a pot to piss into that would LOVE to have them.

One loophole in the program- rigs can be sold or given to a collector and tagged/titled as a collectible vehicle. Then if the private individual chooses to donate or sell the rig to a poor fire department for actual use is between they and that fire department and theres nothing the Gubmint can do. I can neither confirm or deny any knowledge of something like this having happened 3 or 4 times in the last 10 years that I may or may not know about.

Nothing wrong with the pictured truck. The jumpseats aren't unsafe, but they are not as safe as something with four doors could be. As long as the guys stay seated and belted in, they should be OK. And this having a diesel and an automatic.....With a Waterous pump......I know many small rural VFD's that would KILL to have it.

Thanks for the explanation. I was surprised about the back seat. It seems like yesterday that firemen stood on the back of the truck to go to a call. lol

  10. I saw that truck sitting in Alliston when we were up to see you. It'll be a interesting drive for sure. Is a local taking it? I doubt crossing Mexico will be uneventful

Sent from my SM-G386W using Tapatalk

I agree with you Alex, crossing Mexico could be an adventure. Apparently the locals from the church are going to drive it down.

  11. Ok, don't beat me up if I have my facts wrong. I got this about 4th hand, and lately I could mess up a one float parade.

This MR 688 was taken out of service because of safety issues. Apparently the open back seat is not safe anymore. So it was

donated to a church group and they are getting things organized to take it to Guatemala. They are giving it to a little town down there. I don't know exactly where. Apparently they are going to drive it there.

To me its a cool story with a happy ending…..hopefully.

I'm sure it will make it mechanically. If there is problems, it will be red tape of some type.

I wish them the best. And to the town in Guatemala…. you are getting one cool rig!!!

  12. Its the same as my snowplow a TRXL 107 or 1071 six speed . They are both the same but the 1071 has a low low creeper gear.

Hopefully someone chimes in because I don't know if the were available in 1966. So it might be a quad. With a newer heater cover.
