Glaf you liked them, they are actually sunrise, but no matter it is  pretty special to see such beautiful sunrises or sunsets

I think they only occur in the big flat open country, I never seen them in the mountains

  2. You have got some epic pictures of Mack's and UK middle east overland transport trucks , would you mind if I copied and pasted on a site Astran trucks and middle east driving on facebook .

I was a subbie for Astran doing work to Qatar and Kuwait then Uzbekistan with my Mack , there are a lot of old guys that went overland to Iran back in the day .

If you read on the site I have written articles of my time on the road my story starts with me remembering my mate Davy Griffiths who's memory I carried for 35 years and didn't know about the facebook page with all my mates on it .

    Thanks ( Leslie Naylor )

  3. Mrs mack Paul ,you mentioned the Hand built Hippo,Our freightliner was originally built by consolidated freightways mechanics in their Portland Oregon shop.they needed a short lightweight tractor that could pull longer trailers and haul more weight, hence the aluminum cab.this being the result of heavily enforced weight and length laws. The infamous DOT officers! I suspect they only wanted to get their cattle and freight hauled in Australia.

Yeah Billy long way between drinks out here so to speak

No plug in coolers and our truck stops are pretty lame by US standards we have stricter length and width laws than the US but we go a lot taller and are allowed higher axle loads

Speed limit on Road Trains is 90 km/h which must be about about 57 MPH the rest of the trucks B doubles and normal semis 100 km/h or 60 MPH

You cant really go any faster on a lot of the roads the tyres get hot and to many blow outs

heres a picture of my old Federal working if your interested

Rhodes Ridley was two wide you can have two engine trucks but not that wide

I think the laws were always there just not enforced gotta understand how remote that part of Australia was back then and even is today but the law is there these days well and truly

the days of custom made trucks are just about over I feel at least from the manufacturers

Once you came to eastern half of Australia the wait and length laws were pretty strict there was one truck hand made with twin 6 71 GM's side by side for the Pilbra WA by the time it was made they were never allowed to use it the laws were been enforced then
