  1. Don't know about you, but I do the work on my Mack as inexpensive as I can. Question being ,is it cheaper to have an alternator rebuilt or just by one at the parts counter rebuilt and exchange? Just like the "Snowman" I got a long way to go and a short time to get there!

Also, where do you find the serial number on a 237 ???

  2. I looked in my old International brochures.According to the sales literature at the introduction of the Transtar II's the engines that were available was Cummins or Detroit. Near the end of the run of that model cat engines were an available option. That model being the Transtar Eagle Brougham.

  3. There is a small truck lot on a hill beside the interstate 75 in Mt. Vernon Ky. The owners name is David Thompson. The number is 606 256 4606. He has two Transtar II's right now. There is an ad for one on the Nov/Dec 2012 wheels of time. 4800.00 OBO 290 cummins runs good drive anywhere. I can't get you any good pictures. There is no place to park a set of doubles here. Too far from road to get a passing shot. He has been in business a while. I have seen many nice old trucks set there . He also has a coe pete 362, 300 series Brockway, conventional pete, cabover KW. Maybe more!

  4. With the temperatures in the mid 60's I headed down to work on my old Mack today. I was hoping to put an end to a power steering leak that has plagued the truck since I bought it. After running the engine for a little while I noticed a "stripe " of oil on my plywood under the truck.I also noticed oil on my belts, fuel filter and passenger side fender. I am thinking the main seal is shot? What are your opinions of this. Could it be something else that is easier to fix? With the V8 gone and the longer 237 in line 6 block it is very tight under there near the radiator. The seal is about $25 , yet the radiator and fenders will just about have to come off to do this repair . UGH! no wonder the tilt hood was designed!

  5. Buy it! There is a list of things to do to it to see if it will run. The current owner has little interest in it. If he did he would know it is worth more than that scrapped. If you get in over your head someone from this site can surely help. If worse comes you could probably sell it to someone on this site. Sell it to part out is one option above scrapping it, but that option would be yours. Think about this. Buying it, doing the PRE-start work and it runs!!!! Most for sale trucks I have seen don't sell quick due to the transportation costs after the sale. Most of it seems to be there.
