  1. superdog, pick me up on the way through. I have a dump I'm looking at out there. just have to build a tow hitch and bring it back . thats how all the southvof the border guys do it!
  2. looking at another western R. this truck is the twin to my 79 except for the 9 speed trans and it is not a tip turbine. the only thing im not sure about is the way the engine runs. it seems like it has no power till it hits 1600rpm. both my current trucks pull hard from an idle. looking for any ideas. this truck is an 85 and is as clean as any new truck I've looked at. it has 240000 original miles.
  3. all truck tires that I know of have the weight rating stamp on them for 55 to 65 mph. the weight rating increases as speed decreases. used to ha e the chart for Bridgestone. don't know what I did with it. never dreamed I would need it. air pressure also changes weight rating. if you have an underinflated 425 dot can give you a ticket for being overweight on that tire. If you are in the quarry with you tags raised, you will most likely be over on you front axle before the weight rating on you tires at 25mph.
  4. I have a chance to get a 10 speed for my rs686lst. it will grt me an overdrive for the interstate runs and allow me to keep my current pto set up and driveshafts wont need to be modified. the only problem I see is thst I will lose my compound low. what will the top end be with 3.87 gears? 4.42 gears? I have a spare set of 4.42s. I just don't know how mush top end I would lose. I am running 22.5s. and ddon't know the overdrive ratio.of the 10 speed.
  5. that would be a long split. I have problems with my 6 speed direct drive. the 5th to 6th shift gets me in trouble in the hills. I have 3.87 gears on 22.5s and top out at 68mph at 2100 rpm.
  6. if I was the only driver that would be awesome. can they do that with the tip turbine and small air to air?
  7. pulled pan, bearing and cylinders. number 3 cylinder was sloppy and scoring the liner. looks like its time to do an inframe. all the other cylinders looked ok. no cross hatching but no scoring. ordered the inframe kit today.
  8. I got a different style from orreily auto parts a month ago. it was a cylinder with an internal float. just order for 24in or 26in tank and drop it in. no setting floats. works gerat so far.
  9. heads are off. nothing glaring. still cant get the last 2 injectors out.
  10. the only way to spread nice with the side mount was to raise the box two stages and hope tge tailgate would unlatch with the load against it. I much orefer my current set up even without the air shift.
  11. pulling heads tomorrow. mechanics want to inframe while heads are off. I want to see conditions of cylinders and crank before I spend the money.
  12. they just laugh at me and tell me I need to get a newer truck. I look into their shop at all the newer trucks and tell them I don't have enough money for payments and repairs. come to think of it, I don't think ive ever seen a R model in their shop. David, that is what I am trying to find.
  13. I have the cab side. I need the air shifter that goes on the pto itself. it is an actual Mack pto. the volvo guys st mack just stare at me when I tell them it's a mack pto.
  14. anyone know where to get an air shift to engage the pto on a mack 6 speed trans? I installed my air ride cab and my levers to engage the pto and the vax don't work right now.
  15. I'm worried that the tips melted on the other 2 and mushroomed preventing them from being pulled. I really hate replacing new parts.
  16. Those are western turn signals on an eastern truck. Nice looking truck.
  17. TTried to pull injectors today, got the front 2 out. Second one was really wet. Third was stuck. Couldn't even get it using a slide hammer. 4th and 6th came out. 5th was stuck just as bad as number 3. Now I'm panicing. Do I have to remove the heads just to get the injectors out? I just replaced the injectors this time last year.
  18. checked it. and cleaned it. and $160 worth of new gaskets. I hope I find a bad injector. they are under warranty still.
  19. Just running it for testing purposes. No loads. And I back out of it before it gets past 900deg. It's climbing fast enough to tell what its going to do. Tested all the connections on the air to air with soapy water again. Have no bubbles. Smoke is definitely white. I haven't removed injectors yet. We cracked the lines at the pump at the pump, and each line made it run bad. Wouldn't it run bad if an injector was bad? It starts and runs so smooth. Did notice the air cleaner for the turbo was much dirtier than the one for the tip turbine. Probably just more suction from the turbo? Thought that was weird. On a side note...... Trying to learn how to type on an iPad sucks. Headed back out to truck to pull injectors. Will let you know what I find. Thanks for your help.
  20. update. can't find boost gauge, ordered new on online. Followed my driver today. have some white smoke with the dark smoke. going to run oil samples tomorrow and pressure test the cooling system. kind of looking like a headgasket or cracked sleeve. I'm out of ideas.
  21. thanks for all the info. I'll let you know what I find in the morning.
  22. motor is an EM6-300R. Not a endt 676. don't know why I thought it was the other. major brain fart.
  23. do have a boost gauge yet. will be in in morning. rechecked all fittings when I installed turbo. will do again in morning with soapy water. egts are getting up to 1200deg fast. and staying up even when not under a load.
