  1. i agree, the "hilbilt" shaped ones seem like a more logical choice, not sure what the appeal of the 1/2 round tub is. Put a load of 3" in it and half the load is above the top rail
  2. i think a real Hilbilt (before clement bought the trailer line) is hands down the best made. Coras, Dierzen, MTM, Buffalo are basically the same i think. I had a 99 hilbilt and hauled hundreds if not thousands of loads of broken concrete with no real problems. MTM is the hot brand this year it looks like around here
  3. at one time, no question - the most popular steel dump in chicago. I bet there were 1000s here at one time. now, they are too expensive. i bet we have 20 just by us.
  4. yeah, we move a lot for them, I been hauling dirt for them for like 2 weeks...lowboys are pretty slow right now...not sure why...see a lot of those catom guys running. might be time to start lookin for a new gig
  5. sharp 91 RD from J Russ in Crest Hill. They run 1 R and 2 RD's all the time
  6. my pete had 3.90 with an 18 spd and 550 cat. never once had a problem with local dump work, but a lot of that is the motor also my 12 mack had 3.55 and 13 spd with 445 mp8. never had a problem, but i've also done this for 20 years and keep out of most situations where i'll break something or get stuck too bad. 3.79 or 3.70 would be right between my two, they would be fine. 3.98 might be a little slow on the highway
  7. i heard you can disconnect the speed sensor? so it thinks youre not going fast enough to make it derate? not sure if thats real or not
  8. i found the mack version much tighter and harder to drive, just took some getting used to i guess. I'm back to an Eaton now in the KW
  9. air compressor pushes the coolant out the overflow or the cap. its pressurizing the coolant and pushing it out
  10. when i had my truck doing the same crappy chicago dump truckin, i greased my front end and driveline every 2 weeks minimum, and usually every week...might need to do it more often
  11. 460 xt is supposed to be like 500hp i think I bet thats nice
  12. Guys i used to run my truck for. 07 427 8LL. also cannot get out of its own way (or anybody elses)
  13. cummins, the 4 axles T800s have the x15 "performance" big hp, the T880s have the x15 "efficiency" 450hp, kinda gutless, cant get out of its own way

  17. those hood mirrors gotta go. Whoever let that get into production must be blind
  18. my 2012 had to have the big positive battery cable from the battery to the starter replaced. It was very hard in spots and all corroded. i'd check that before the switch
  19. only had to do 1 of those so far, pretty f***ing long back there
  20. Must be the glue...all the pinstripers seem that way😁
  21. this is a rare photo of a chicago dump trucker who actually still takes pride in his ride! Our own Johnny "Rockets" always makes sure this old RD has a shine on. Sorry for the crappy pic taken thru a dirty windshield
  22. plastic garbage...but so is every truck nowadays. The 2019 T880 i am driving now prob wont last more than 5 years before it rattles itself into dust
