That's in answer to the question "how's it going?"
I'm sitting here waiting for the air conditioner guy-after calling about 4 different places,I finally found one in Altavista that said they'd be here sometime today, but I have no idea when.
Called Jeff too. He said the parts for the truck should be in today,so I won't be going anywhere today. Not only was the head gasket blown, they're putting a camshaft in it too because that had a lobe wiped off. He sounded very disgruntled,as there's no warranty on it.
Been trying to find a cheap car,the engine in the '94 Taurus that my son was driving gave out,but I don't think there's any such thing as a cheap car anymore.
At least i'm not in jail and nobody's shooting at me to my knowledge-always a bright side.

Well,i'm at home again, until at least Monday-truck's been running hot lately, and i've had it at Carter Cat twice already to have it checked out,and there's nothing wrong with it. It runs at 200+ degrees all the time, bumps 220 on a hill...but there's nothing wrong with it,the fan, thermostats, water pump-working fine I kept telling Jeff it was running way too hot,and he sent me by Cat both times, and when they said there was nothing wrong when I left there Wednesday evening, after wasting a couple of hours,he told me to "put foot in 'er ass,it's on them now". So that's what I did - when it got up to 220 degrees going up the mountain on I-64 before you get into West Virginia,I never let off it-I kept saying something was wrong,it was running too hot,had been to Cat twice and they said ,in so many words,"no it ain't-our high-tech equipment says everything's fine, you're an idiot, now get the hell outa here!"
My theory was, it was the water pump-it's got 339,000 miles on it and never had a water pump put on it. I kind've figured it was just worn out from paddling all that water. I couldn't stand to keep driving the truck when I knew SOMETHING had to be wrong,so when I got in Friday morning Jeff told me to take it back to Cat,for the third time,he was gonna get a new water pump put on just for preventive maintenance( or maybe he was tired of hearing me whine about it!). So after I got unloaded in Roanoke I dropped it off at Cat again and went home. They said it would be ready Friday afternoon, and I was supposed to pick it up and get a load of pipes at the shop going to Monroeville,Pa. Before I got out of town good Jeff called me and said not to worry about picking the truck up-it had a blown head gasket. Didn't surprise me-I thought all along it had a blown head gasket At least I get to watch the new "Ice Road Truckers" Sunday night.
And speaking of hot-geez! Went outside to stake my tomatoes after my Mr. Stripey toppled over and broke and the heat was intense. It's 92 here now. I remember when I was a kid,out in a hay field picking up square bales out of the field ( round balers weren't invented then!) or working in tobacco on days like today-or hotter, for that matter- but I couldn't do it now

Thought I had the rabbit problem solved, but I guess not.Jobyna said she'd take over the dog's job for their salary,so I said ok-figured she'd eat way less kibbles and bits than they do,but it didn't work out. She was on routine patrol in the back yard when she spotted the enemy ( bunny). She got off a shot but the shotgun's kick knocked her down. She threw her equipment down and said "#$%@ you,I quit!!!" I said "quit?!! you're fired!" So,I guess it's back to the pepper spray.
Tried out my new smoker / grill on some ribs today-at least that seems to work great! Cooked them over indirect heat as you can see, worked fine!

I'm only here for a little while-hopefully.I've been to Neville Island and went to Ambridge and picked up a load of 60' beams going to Chesapeake,Va. but the truck's been running a little hot so I left it at Carter Cat so they can check it out. Then i'll deliver in Chesapeake, unless they get somebody else to deliver the load, which would be fine with me.
Jobyna was moving some stuff around while I was gone and ran across the secret home made barbecue sauce recipe. I've been making it out of my head and left out some ingredients, namely worcestorshire sauce and black pepper.
    the recipe is this:
1 gallon of vinegar-remove one pint
1 bottle of Texas Pete (or whatever hot sauce you prefer )
    1/4 cup black pepper
1/2 cup worcestorshire sauce (just pour the whole bottle in )
    1/4 cup garlic powder
    1/2 cup crushed red pepper
2 tablespoons liquid smoke (I just pour the whole bottle in )
mix it up and let it set for a few days
smoke a boston butt 'til it's done, pull the bone out, pull it apart, or shred it,or chop it,mix with about 1/2 cup of the sauce (i'd just pour a whole cup in),then call me
now if I lose the secret recipe again,it'll be here. And if I lose it and the computer crashes somebody can e-mail it to me.

Well, nothing new about trucking anyway except i'm already sad that I have to work tomorrow-Memorial Day
I've finally finished a smoker/grill that Kevin started at the shop and never finished.I offered to buy it from him and he said I could have it,and it's been in the backyard for weeks. It's made out of a 55 gallon drum,on a stand. Didn't have any grill grates for it,but I cut off some old oven racks and put them in it. They should work fine for chicken or smoking a boston butt, but smaller things will fall through pretty easy. Good thing I have 3 more grills for smaller stuff, and I still got the smoker oven too.
Been like Elmer Fudd trying to keep a rabbit out of the garden. The beans came up,even the ones I replanted and they were looking pretty good. When I got home Thursday I looked at the garden and they looked like stems coming out of the ground-all the leaves had been eaten by a creature. Looked out the window and saw a rabbit and a squirrel in it. Last year rabbits ate the cantalopes, but didn't bother anything else. This year I didn't plant any cantolopes for them,so they ate my beans-i've been spraying the whole garden with a little hot sauce and a little dawn mixed up in a spray bottle. People tell me it works, but I don't know. I don't want to try that new grill for the first time with a roasted rabbit, but I didn't plant enough beans for me and the rabbit too. ( just kidding,PETA people )
I've got to leave in the morning and go to Petersburg and load for Neville Island,Pa. That's just north of Pittsburgh. Last week I went to Fremont,Oh. and then over to Butler,In. and loaded steel back to Roanoke-6 coils. Then I went to Orchard Park,N.Y. and loaded at Brookfield,Oh. for Roanoke. Pennsylvania DOT nabbed me at Bald Eagle,Pa. on the way to Orchard Park. Gave me a warning ticket for my log book not being current I should have had it caught up-I had just gotten up on an exit ramp near Roaring Spring and was gonna go to the Snappy store at Bald Eagle and get a cup of coffee and get my book right. Unfortunately, the DOT was camped in the median just before you get to Snappy's.
Rabbit is pretty tasty if you parboil it before you cook it-otherwise they're kinda tough
might as well illustrate this entry too-the truck in the driveway, new (to me!) grill, what's left of some of the the green beans after the creature gnawed them off.
And on a more serious note,it is Memorial Day weekend-let's not forget what Memorial Day is and remember the veterans, and those who sacrificed all so we can enjoy the freedoms we have today. May God bless this nation, and keep us all safe. This I pray in the name of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. Amen

A few more random photos from the road...the very narrow street in Wheeling,W.V. I delivered a load of 60' beams on, a big Mack truck, Summit racing in Tallmadge,Oh, a B-model near Zelienople,Pa, A yellow fire truck near Sharon,Pa. (it's for sale!), a huge oversize load, a Swift truck that pulled over on the shoulder-except there was no shoulder there, and the old KB-5 that sat in front of the truckstop in Hubbard,Oh. Now it's parked across the road with a "for sale" sign in the window-$7500.

Speaking of work,i'm still hard at it. I've been to Zelienople,Pa. and back twice this week. Sounds easy enough, but there ain't no easy runs. It's a titanic struggle to get 46,000 lbs. up the road several times a week. Got to Roanoke with 48,000 lbs,3 Metalsa coils, around 6:30 or 7 o'clock Thursday night and figured on getting unloaded and being home early, but sometimes it doesn't pay to figure on anything. I got unloaded about 3:30 am Friday, got to the shop at 5 am and slept until 8,then went to Dillwyn and loaded kyanite for Fremont,Oh. to leave Sunday with. Then I drove the mixer over to Stonewall and parked it. The annual Stonewall Antique Power show is this weekend, and it almost snuck up on me. Came home, after the usual grocery store stop, and cut the grass and replanted some corn and beans that didn't come up.
Went over to Wal-Mart in Altavista and dropped a roll of film off too,so I should have pictures to post this afternoon. Took some of a Mack fire truck that's for sale near Sharon or Wheatland,Pa. and we're gonna ride over to the tractor show for a little while and look around so I might take a picture or two there. Hard to say what might be there,or what kind of turnout they'll have this year because gas is so expensive. When I left there yesterday the only antique vehicles there was a 1965 b-53 Mack concrete mixer and a Ford pickup, but lots of tractors were coming in. It's good to have a distraction from just hearing of gloom and doom all the time,so in honor of no clue joe-I must be off...film at eleven.

Got up and read the paper this morning...not much there to be happy about. Tornados and storms, gas keeps going up,Kyle Busch won the race. Then I called Ma and them,it is mother's day. Told her I found the biggest tomato plant in the garden broken off yesterday, with no evidence of dog or human tracks around it. Saw no crop circle either,so it probably wasn't UFO related, and she said it could be the dreaded cutworm. I don't know how it got broken off,but I went out and dusted everything with Sevin dust, and now it's pouring rain. That's ok,I can dust it again,i'm glad to get the rain. We got little or none all last summer. I put some lime and fertilizer on the garden yesterday so the rain should dissolve that.Should have put lime on it when I first tilled it,but didn't. Don't want any blossom end rot on your tomaters you know. I planted another tomato yesterday too, because I didn't have a mr. stripey and saw them at Wal-Mart,and I planted a New Mexico Big Jim pepper, just because it was called a Big Jim. Every once in a while I actually do a little work around here!..but very little I suppose.
Took a couple of pictures yesterday-one of the peach trees, they're both loaded with peaches this year. A late frost killed all of them last year. The apple, pear, and cherry trees are also filled. And two dogs ( the big dog isn't mine ) saying "what do we do now, there's a fence around the garden?"

I left here last Sunday, put my new radio in before I left ( the old Cobra wasn't acting right, but i've had it for 5 years ),and went to Brook Park,Oh. Reloaded at Brookfield and went to Roanoke, then to Dillwyn and on to Fremont,Oh.Then to Brookfield and Roanoke. Then to Moneta and Clarion,Pa. and Brookfield and Roanoke. Got to Roanoke about 6:30 last night and got unloaded at 11:30 So,instead of being home I slept in the truck up at the truckstop just south of Lynchburg. Called Jo at 5:30 this morning to come get me. She didn't cuss me or anything (well,at least not on the phone!),she came right on. I've put well over 200,000 miles on the truck now,and Jeff will have had it 2 years sometime in August. Think i'll run over to Wal-Mart now and get some fertilzer for the garden, they're calling for more rain today and tomorrow.Grass needs mowing again too. Maybe I should teach Jo how to push a lawnmower, but maybe I shouldn't push my luck.
    I have no new pictures now,so here's a recycled picture of a '66 Chevelle.

Got the grass cut this morning, then had to put a fence around the garden to keep these two out of it. They've been trampling, digging, and laying all over it. Otherwise,it's looking pretty good so far. The big dog is not mine-he's lived here as long as I have, and we feed him about 3,000 lbs. of dog food a week, but he's not mine.

Another long week, and short weekend coming up. Delivered in Butler,Pa. early Tuesday morning and went to Brookfield and was loaded and ready to go by 10:30 am,figuring i'd get to Roanoke and unload early Tuesday night and come home. But,that all changed when I had to go to Malta,Oh. and make another pickup.Last time I went there and loaded the cement mixers I was empty, this time I had on almost 44,000 lbs. of the big Metalsa coils right in the middle of the trailer, and couldn't make much time on the very narrow, crooked, small, twisty, skinny, roads getting there. Picked up 5 mixers and a small skid of unknown product over there, going to Vinton,Va,near Roanoke. So I didn't get home, but I got paid for 2 loads in one,so it was a very good round.
Then I had to go to Petersburg and get a 60' load going to Wheeling,W.V. that wasn't ready until about 6 o'clock Wednesday night. I delivered there Thursday morning, then went back to Brookfield and loaded more coils for Roanoke. Got that off this morning and went to Dillwyn and loaded kryptonite,or kyanite I mean, (I can't haul kryptonite,it makes me sick, especially green kryptonite) for Brook Park,Oh. That's near Cleveland,so I'll be leaving early Sunday.
Got a roll of film developed today that I took during my recent travels-a B-model Mack on rt. 60 between Rupert and Charmco,W.V, a plane towing a sign when I was unloading in Avon,Oh,a Superliner for sale in Moorefield,W.V,3 shots of climbing the mountain out of Uniontown,Pa. headed east on U.S. rt. 40-the little notch to the left of the sign is where i'm headed, then i'm almost to the top with Uniontown visible in the mirror, then the motel at the top. This mountain is so steep the speed limit going down is 10 mph. I once got stopped going down it for doing 17 mph in a 10,with an empty flatbed . Cost me about $100 near as I can remember, that was about 20 years ago. And,some of those giant windmills on a mountaintop, somewhere near Pa,W.V,or western Maryland.
P.S.-How about Mushroom colors on your B-67 Paul? I like it,very colorful.

Sure was nice to get a whole weekend for a change. I just about got the garden finished, planted some corn, pole beans, green beans,16 tomato plants, some green peppers, hot peppers,a couple of squash, and one eggplant. Already had onions, cabbage and garlic planted. Also got the aluminum cans bagged and loaded on the pickup so Jobyna can haul them to Cycle Systems. Should have cut the grass though, now it's raining again.
Got to go to the shop and fuel now, then to Moneta to load lumber for Buler,Pa. Already got a Roanoke load at Brookfield,Oh. to bring back,so as nocluejoe would say otherdog would say "I must be off".

All righty then, due to an overwhelming public demand-arrright then,Bollweevil said "if you insist..."-here's more pictures. They're not gonna be in order because I scanned them in a very haphazard manner, but they're all the trucks I drove for H.H.Moore from the '74 transtar to the 9900I,no.s 15 and 55 I drove and drive for F.L.Moore and Sons, the mud bogger in action,my old Nova ( before and after ),my KZ1000 Kawasaki (hey, that's my gold Skylark in the background, forgot about that car-was a good one),something at a forestry show in Richmond,Va. and a Christmas tree I put on the back of a trailer that survived a trip to Chicago and back, and coming into Rainelle,W.V. on rt.60 in the snow.

I heard that Paul Davis passed away this week...most people probably never heard of him,his biggest hit record was "I Go Crazy" but he had several more. I remembered him because he had a song out around 1975 called "Ride 'em Cowboy".Can't really explain it,but but it always made me cry when I heard it. I mean, there I was,19 years old, riding around in my souped up '72 Rally Nova with an AM radio and when Paul Davis came on and sang "Ride 'em Cowboy" i'd cry like a baby. So obviously i'd change the station if anybody was with me,otherwise i'd listen and cry.
I was sitting in the back yard earlier and got to thinking, after i'd planted some corn and beans.I went to youtube and listened to "Ride 'em Cowboy" for the first time in years...yeah,I couldn't help crying, but I didn't let Jobyna see me. Now i'm telling everybody how I cried...go figure.
I once told a very dear friend of mine, whom I love like a son, right after his younger brother was killed in an accident that time heals all wounds, but nothing will ever be the same again. And that is still true-he didn't believe me of course, but I lost my best friend ever,David Elder (A.K.A. Travelin' Kid) and then as you know my wife died of multiple myloma,a form of cancer. I had never loved anyone like her,and never will again, but i'm OK-Jobyna is funny, and weird at times,( most of the time actually) and I love her too,but it's different. I know I carry on more nonsense here than anyone, but i've started now,so i'll continue . Someone once told me that when the Lord takes something away,he always gives you something back. So that gets me to the point that- I believe that's true. Ive met more people, and made new friends-even right here on BMT.Nocluejoe for example-he's got new twins, got laid off from his job,but if I was in trouble and needed him for something I feel like he'd find a way to get here.Big Jim,Paul,Bollweevil, and others are the same way. Right Paul?
So... I don't know why this serious mood came over me,but i'll get over it. Anybody want me to scan more old pictures?
  15. other dog
Went back up the road to Orville,Oh. Thursday. Reloaded at Brookfield,Oh. to Roanoke and unloaded there tonight. Now i'm home.
Here's a couple of pictures of one of the Freightliners I used to drive-one at home, the other is at Pharo's truckstop in Shippensburg,Pa. with a load of joists. I also ran across an old article about Jeff's beginning in the trucking business. He started out with a B-model I see. He's come a long way since then.
Talked to Joe today about scrap metal, and what it's bringing. I have bought and driven cars for what they're getting for scrap prices now. That probably means old parts will be even harder to find because everybody will be digging their old stuff out of the woods and selling it for junk. I saw an old tractor on a trailer behind a ton truck headed to Shredded Products one day this week. I'm pretty sure the tractor was going to be scrapped too because the truck was piled up with junk and there was more junk around the tractor. The tractor was very old,but new enough to have rubber tires, completely rusty, but it appeared to have all the sheet metal and it didn't look beat up or dented at all. I don't know what kind of tractor it was but it was a tricycle type with the steering shaft going all the way down alongside the hood to the steering box right over the front wheels. Some of the old tractor restorers would probably have loved to have it just for the sheet metal if nothing else.
...shoulda' planted that corn last weekend...

I've made the misery turn, brought 2 coils from Brookfield back to Roanoke, then went to Moneta and loaded treated lumber to Butler,Pa. then to Brookfield and back to Roanoke again.Got that off last night and came home, haven't called headquarters yet to see what's in store for today.
Found a couple more pictures of oversize loads I pulled, one's on a pole trailer, the other is on a jeep,or joe dog as we called it,with a steerable dolly under the rear.We had to use the joe dog because the girder was so heavy. You always had to be careful of the front overhang with the joe dog-when you turned the front of the beam would be way over, and you could knock down a sign or pole if you weren't.These loads went from Lynchburg to Ashland,Va,just north of Richmond on I-95 .
I didn't take a lot of pictures then, now I take pictures all the time, mainly because my "adventures" are so boring I try to add pictures for entertainment. I used to subscribe to a certain magazine and never read the articles, just looked at the pictures
  17. other dog
Now I can catch up on a few details...put some new kind of fertilizer on the garden when I planted the onions and cabbage, and the dogs have been digging them up faster than I can replant it. I read the bag and it's made with feather meal (?),bone meal, fish meal and blood meal-sounds tasty,no wonder they're digging it up.Anyway, might have to add some black pepper to it as dog repellent.
Hit some kind of unidentified creature in the road on rt. 219 when I was going to Orchard Park last week.I thought it might have been a beaver, but it was about 12 or 1am when I hit it,so I wasn't sure. Noted wildlife expert Big Jim went that way to Buffalo Monday night and he said there was still enough of it left for him to identify it as a porcupine. He lives in Reynoldsville Pa. and said they were common around that area, but it was a new one on me. I've heard of porcupines of course, but i've only seen one-he was waddling across 219 one night when I was going to Orchard Park,N.Y. Then I heard a thump, and felt a slight bump. That was also the last porcupine i've seen.
I went to Waddy,Ky. Sunday with a load of pipe,or pipes as they say at the shop. Easy jobsite, just had to back out into a field, but there were 5 trucks there and I was no.4 so it took half a day to get unloaded, then I went over to Winchester,Ky. to get a load of air conditioners going to Chantilly,Va. and they said "it'll be awhile, probably about 4 hours". Great-half a day to get unloaded, the other half reloading, and they probably want the load in Chantilly yesterday. Best I could do was lunch time Tuesday, and when I got to Chantilly they said "gonna be a while,we'll get you when we can". So I got unloaded after a couple of hours and went to the shop and Kevin had stayed late to load another load of pipes on me going to Latrobe,Pa. Actually the directions said to take rt. 22 to New Alexandria,Pa. (home of the world famous Watt's Mack) then go south on rt.981 about 5 miles. When I got there I was headed west on 22 and I was so tired I could barely hold my head up,but these jobsites want you there early usually. I thought i'd make a flip and park in front of the Mack place, because I figured they'd wake me up and run me off pretty early, but when I went past to the u-turn exit there was a truck pulled over so I pulled in behind him and went to bed. When I got up at 6:45 I saw a cop behind me over on the left side of the ramp.Thought he might have been waiting for a speeder coming up rt.22,but then another car pulled in behind him, then a white van,and I knew it was D.O.T. I figured they were just waiting for me to push that brake button in,then they'd stop me and want to see my log book,so I caught my book up before I pushed any buttons and they never bothered me. Went down and unloaded and it wasn't a jobsite, they reworked the pipe, added fittings, cut threads, etc. When I called in empty at 9am Jeff answered the phone and said "I didn't figure you'd be there 'til lunch time". I didn't tell him,but if i'd known it wasn't a jobsite I wouldn't have been.
Only reason I made it all the way to New Alexandria was because I got to run with Big Jim,and we went "through the woods" the whole way. We went up 259 out of Broadway, then up the "hog trough" to Augusta,W.V, 50 over to Romney,28 to Cumberland,Md, then rt. 160 to 219. Some very steep hills to climb going that way. Big Jim got on the turnpike at Somerset,I stayed on 219 to Johnstown, then took 403 up to 22 and headed west. He was going to Conway,Pa,where I went that time the first truck couldn't get up the hill because of the snow.
I went from Latrobe to Sharon and picked up 5 coils coming to Lynchburg and dropped them there last night and bobtailed home, which is where I left off this morning. Unless Jeff happens to read this,in that case I actually walked all the way home again. His son Jeffrey, who works at the shop, has finally joined and started a blog so there's always a possibility he could read it. Let's hope not...Ive been telling Jeffry for a while he should join here,he was practically born and raised in and around trucks, first at H.H.Moore's (his great Grandfather),now at F.L.Moore and Sons. He's funny too-but I don't know that he's funny as I'm is.
After I unloaded at Handy in Lynchburg this morning I went to the shop and Jeffrey fixed one of my LED lights on the front fender that's been out for a while, then I loaded another load of pipes going to Durham,N.C. I don't need to leave going down there 'til 4 or 5 in the morning,so that's why i'm here now.The down side is,once again i'll be leaving Sunday. After I unload in Durham i'll probably come back up to Dillwyn and load kyanite,or possibly get another load of pipes. The pipe has really been moving this week.
...and some new Peterbilts that just came in,including a green one
  18. other dog
Well,I thought I had an easy run for Friday, but like the song says "there ain't no easy run". I left here at 4:45 this morning and got home at 7:30. All I had to do was take a load of pipes to Durham, then load something for Monday delivery. Only thing is there were 7 trucks at the same job,I was number 4 in line, and the loader operator looked like today was the first time he'd ever been on the machine. The loader was big enough to unload the whole stack at one time, but the forks weren't long enough. He could only carry 4 or 5 pipes at a time and had to go about 50 yards with them,so it was a slow process.
Then I went to Petersburg to load beams for Masury,Ohio. Got there at 1:45 and the hateful b..,uh,woman I mean,in the scalehouse said "beat it,come back at 2:30". So I parked and waited 'til 2:30. Loaded at 3 different spots in the mill-all the beams are outside,on the ground, stacked in rows like pulpwood, exposed to the weather-and after I was loaded the loader man said "oops-forgot one, follow me back to the first spot we were at".
I knew loads going to Masury had to be tarped in winter, but I thought maybe I wouldn't have to now...as usual I thought wrong. Had to tarp it. It was 91 degrees too. My air conditioner doesn't work either. As they say,it's a tough job-but somebody's got to do it.
One more thing-we sometimes haul metal buildings for ABC-American Building. If they ever had a building going to Fishers,N.Y. I hope I get that load. I could give a whole new meaning to being "late with the freight".
Here's a few more random pictures i've recently scanned from some of my photo albums- the longest load I ever pulled, a 149' 11" girder with a steerable dolly ( I just say it was 150',but I don't want to spread any false doctrine here),think it weighed about 74,000 lbs, took it from Abingdon,Va. to the route 840 bypass around Nashville,an old Chevrolet truck in the woods at my Daddy's in Cumberland,Va,and a chicken on a can cooking in my electric gas wood charcoal smoker oven.
Speaking of dolly loads, that reminds me of the time Woodstock and myself had a couple of dolly loads going somewhere in Pa. Jeffrey Moore was riding with me,he was the dolly driver. Of course as soon as he got us out of the plant in Lynchburg and onto rt. 29 he jumped in the bunk and after about 2 minutes it sounded like a sawmill back there,as he was fast asleep. We stopped at the rest area on 81 between Staunton and Harrisonburg and I went into the bathroom, came out and got back in the truck and we left. A few minutes later one of the escorts called me on the CB and asked where Jeffrey was. I said he was asleep. She said "no he ain't,he's back at the rest area". I looked in the sleeper and sure enough-no Jeffrey. So I said "well, let's just leave him,he'll catch a ride home sometime or other". But she went back and got him anyway. He had gotten out and went to the vending machines and I didn't know he had ever woke up. When we pulled out and left he called headquarters and told them he'd gotten left, then they called the escort.

Once again after a very, very short weekend it's time to get back to work. As soon as I shave and take a shower i'll be leaving.
I got some corn and pole beans yesterday and started to plant it but there's a chance of rain through Wednesday so i'm gonna wait-if the ground's too wet the seeds might rot before they come up. Still plenty of time to plant them yet. I'll plant the beans between the corn and let the runners climb the corn stalks. I also bought a container of crushed red pepper and sprinkled it on the onions and cabbage that the dogs keep digging up.
I'm going to Masury,Oh.-or misery,Oh. as a lot of drivers call it-and have a load of coils in Brookfield to bring back to Roanoke. I don't feel like going,i'm already tired thinking about it,but I checked the maibox yesterday and got an electricity bill, credit card bill, telephone, insurance, and directv bill all at once so that kind've motivates you to get going. I paid all that last month, but they keep sending more bills so I got to keep on trucking...hate having to leave on Sunday

And i'm still tired.

Went to the dentist today and Mary the tooth babe said everything was looking good. She sure was...oh,my train of thought derailed for a moment there...uh...oh,got the parts for the tiller and got it going. Planted 8 cabbage plants and a row of onions.None of it's ready to pick yet. That's probably all i'll plant for a while-saw people buying tomato plants today, but they'll probably have to cover them a few nights yet.I'll just wait a while for the tomatoes and squash, let the ground warm up some.
Had a load of pipe at the shop going to Waddy,Ky. that Jeffrey was going to put on my trailer to deliver Monday...back to the old grind.

I made it to Donora all right with that half a load of kyanite.Made up for the light load with the return load though-brought 5 coils back to Lynchburg that weighed 49,980. All 5 of them that is,not each. That's good, they pay by the weight and the load I took to Donora pays the same as a full load. Then I went to Orchard Park with kyanite, but I didn't have time to go to Fishers and do a surprise building inspection because I had to go to Brookfield,Oh. and load some coils for Metalsa in Roanoke. Dropped the trailer at Sonny Merryman's when I got unloaded so they can replace that dump valve.
Then I came home and cut the grass-mower started on the first pull. Now i've got to go to the dentist today, try to get some parts for my old tiller so I can get to work on the garden, and probably go load somewhere to deliver Monday. So even if it seems like you get a day off,you really don't except for Saturday.
And I learned something this week.I ran with Frankie to Orchard Park and back to Roanoke.Frankie who was complaining about his new Peterbilt. He was used to his high powered 550 Cat Western Star, the old single turbo 550. I never ran with the Western Star, but everybody said it was the pullingest truck in the fleet. I thought my truck was doing pretty good, but he outpulled me with the new truck. Same load, and he had a 53' trailer.I had a 48. Outpulled me. With a 485 hp ISX Cummins and 3.36 rears. At least now I don't feel bad about Jeff having one ordered.

Went to Petersburg and picked up a load of beams Monday after I unloaded in Vinton,Va. Delivered them in Bethlehem,Pa. Tuesday morning and then went to Sparrows Point,Md. and loaded one single coil for Salem,Va. that weighed about 47,000 lbs. Then I loaded kyanite for Avon,Oh. and went from Avon to Pittsburgh and loaded 2 coils at Galv-Tech going to Lynchburg.Unloaded there Friday morning and went to Dillwyn and loaded kyanite for Donora,Pa. to deliver Monday morning-only 6 pallets, about 22,000 lbs .I was supposed to go to Zelienople, but they changed it when I got to Dillwyn....
(yawn)...geez,...so what? This is so boring (but I like it when nothing out of the ordinary happens) i'll add some pictures of my recent travels for entertainment purposes-A Super Liner dump truck,an old Ford I saw on rt. 460 near Disputanta,Va, a Mack going down the highway backwards as fast as I was going forward (...gee,hope it wasn't behind a wrecker...),traffic back-up on I-81 just north of Roanoke because of an accident, a big Mack truck in Montvale,Va, and what else? oh,I remember,a sharp looking Peterbilt at the truckstop in Newcomerstown,Oh. And a b-61 at the KW lot in Youngstown,Ohio out of the Truck Paper.Don't see them on a dealers lot much anymore.

went to Avon...then to Sharon,Pa. Brought 2 coils back to Lynchburg. Talked to Frankie at Handy-he got out of a Western Star with a 550 cat into one of the new 386 Petes they just got,and he was not impressed. He didn't like the slower speed, lower h.p.(485 cummins isx),and mainly the way it rides. They look good though! He said it bounced like a cabover with the set-back front axle. I'd just be whining and crying about the lower horsepower if it was me,and Jeff already has one ordered. It's supposed to be in in October. I'm happy as a monkey on a 'nana boat with my 550 now that it's running right. Just running south or the rathole of the northeast, like a lot of the guys do, it wouldn't make much difference, but running Ohio and western Pa. like I do most of the time that extra power is really nice to have.Especially loaded heavy both ways, usually 45,000+.
Then I was off to Zelienople,Pa. with a load of kyanite and went over to Malta,Oh. and picked up a load of small cement mixers and miscelaneous equipment that went with them to deliver in Vinton,Va. Monday. This was a pretty light load, but there's no good way to get to Malta,Oh. from anywhere, and it was very tight getting to the place where I loaded.Still haven't gotten the dump valve replaced on the trailer.
