  1. That is my point exactly, only I could not say it as well. I can not say that I have seen anyone here be offensive, just to be offensive. On the other hand, Dad used to tell me that if you someone doing something wrong and don't say or do something about it, you become part of it. Correctness for the perceived point of being correct is not only incorrect it quickly destroying the foundation of this country, and what we have stood for.
  2. That wont work, it will just make another roll off duct tape necessary.
  3. I have often thought that to determine which state had the best would be a lot eaiser
  4. Aptitude is good, but attitude is everything. If he want's to be the best in the world, he just has to have that mind set. A little encouragement helps. I like trucks myself, but tracks might be a better way. Construction is not over in this country, and a really good track mechanic can demand a lot more for his talents.
  5. That's a good attitude. I like it.
  6. I am absolutely 100% offended and it ain't all right. At the lower left of the home page is a heading, forum filters, so I thought I would see what it consisted of. when I had filtered out forty Craigs list for sale items, and any other items that might be of no personal interest, there had been 3 postings in the last 24 hours. Better still I have a built in personal filter, if something is offensive to me I won't waste time with it. I don't need someone else filtering stuff for me. This correctness attitude is for the birds. The next time someone gets to wondering where somebody is, they may have just gotten tired of the crap.
  7. Needs more tape, you can still see her.
  8. As a young man, one of my co-workers confided to me that he had just gone through a divorce. When I asked him why, he told me that it came about because he had farted in bed and held the covers over his wife's head. Well it didn't work for me, and just as soon as I could see a little out of one eye, I went back to work and told him so. As a side note, don't try that shit with a woman that can bench press 400 lbs.
  9. If you figure in the actual cost to keep the truck running an average of 120,000 miles per year it will be close to or higher than a buck a mile. That does not account for personal expense at all. Truck and trailer payments not included either. Another thing, loaded or empty the operating cost is virtually the same. The overwhelming difference, no revenue. In today's climate, I wonder why anyone wants a truck.
  10. Should load it up with as many upper management and design engineers as they could get in it, and do as that Albert E. fellow suggested. Drive it around a tree at 185.999 miles per second, and see what happens. Making sure that the one that designed and located the power window, door lock console on the Granite was driving.
  11. A 12 speed could be either direct or overdrive, they both function the same, but the direct is 1 to 1 in high gear.
  12. If you have studs broken off flush, or slightly protruding, lay a thick washer, with a smaller inside diameter over the broken stud, and mig weld the washer to the stud. Get enough weld on it to put some heat into the stud. Then weld a nut to the washer. Using a combination wrench , loosen gently at first, or loosen and tighten until it will move. If the weld breaks, do it again. You will have a better success rate than trying to hand drill a hardened stud while staying free of the threads. Even thinking about broken easy outs makes my head hurt.
  13. My first impression is, that it looks like shit on a white duck
  14. Nothing I could say to make it easier for you, I guess I will just sit here and cry for a while. You will certainly be in my prayers.
  15. I was coming off Monteagle east bound once, long before the last improvement. I don't know if you remember, but in sight of the bottom of the hill there used to be a cut with solid granite on both sides, just two lanes, and no way that you could have stuffed three trucks through at the same time. I was in the right lane, going slow, so that I could stop if I had to, when a freight truck blew by with the brakes smoking. The driver was giving me some kind of hell on the radio for holding him up. At the time it had not been quite 2 months, since another hot shot had killed himself and another trucker, when he got to the cut, found two trucks side by side and had nowhere to go.
  16. I was on my way to Denver late one night across Kansas, and Colorado, on I 70. The wind was out of the north, and it was so cold that the cross over line had frozen. I pulled into Rip Griffin's at Limon, with about 4 inches of fuel in the drivers side, and 3/4ths in the passenger side. After about freezing my behind off while fueling, I parked and went into the restaurant for coffee. At that time they had a drivers section, which was open, the rest of the restaurant was blocked off and deemed closed. The drivers section was filled with an entire bus load of skiers, on their way to Vail. With at least 40 empty tables they refused to sit me at one, and informed me that I would have to wait until the bus crowd left. If I hadn't already paid for the fuel, I would have made them pump it out. That has been 25 years ago, And I still wouldn't spend a nickel at a Ripoff Griffins.
  17. Be careful with that running backward , you could run into a cave and not know it.
  18. Neither ADA, or EEOC rules or regulations preempt rules set forth by the FMCSA, which is the regulatory body that the industry works under. Even though the individual in question had not been convicted of a DUI offense, Old Dominion could not with good conscience act otherwise. On the other hand it sounds like the fellow just didn't want to work but still wanted to be paid.
  19. How could Old Dominion do anything less, than dismiss an admitted substance abuser, who would not accept a position other than driver, because it did not pay as well?
  20. I can't remember the fellow's business, or name for that matter, that Trent has been buying used parts from. He probably has 8 matching wheels and tires that you could buy or trade for, at a decent price. Keep in mind that you are looking at 8 to 10 bucks or more for a disposal fee, for each casing. My personal experience has just about always been, that any tire that you can buy on the road, that is just good enough to get home with, won't get you home. I sure wouldn't leave home without the confidence of getting back. It really doesn't matter how the truck is registered, or how you plan to use it, you are responsible for it's safe operation and ultimately for the safety of others that you are sharing the road with. If you get caught up in a roadside check, with a hard ass DOT officer, you could run out of options very quickly.
  21. I guess all of you know what a wooden injun sounds like, wooden wooden wooden woooooden
  22. Go through the adjustment again. With the shoes as tight against the drum as you can adjust them, check the S cam to see how much ramp is left available. Then while watching, have someone step on the brake to see if it cams over.
  23. It is not uncommon at all to have a slack adjuster fail in this manner. It would be uncommon to find that three or more had failed at the same time.
  24. The Eaton synthetic will also run a lot cooler. Also, when choosing an engine oil, using an oil that is readily available anywhere, makes sense. Just in case, for some reason you have to add oil.
  25. It sucks big time, I hate it
