  1. yeah down when I was in the City it was over a grand for a impound tow... we had a bunch of em .. Meeker and McGuiness ...ha it was one of our favorite spots .. any how, I transfered north, and maybe some day I'll be up your way.... yeah my rig may jsut end up being sold ..as I can barely afford to find the parts for it and 2 kids with 1 on the way and only 1 bread winner ya need to be REAL creative on finding parts and paying for them. Tires and Fuel are th ereal scary parts for me ..the rest isn't too bad especailly if it just recreational. Did you read the last Wheels of Time?.. that one guy said he spent $1500 on fuel one way to Baltimore..damn... Thanks keep em safe Deo
  2. yup empire state dog you are correct in that if used commercially the historical plates are no good..i don't plan to use it historicall just haul my own stuff to my property etc and to shows..in fact that is how the insurance is to its invalid if used for a commercial purpose, but you are allowed to haull stuff for yourself to your own property etc ie if I load a load of gravel for my own driveway its not a problem ..but if i do that for my neighbor its a BIG problem. If i use my trailer to haul a car or truck to a car show its not aproblem either. you still need the heavy duty inspection and you are still subject to the HDDV diesel emission roadside tests also..only a few exceptions there... like special commercial plates etc.....any how I do the enforcement for a living, and I did my research on getting my truck legally on the road when its done. which is gonna be awhile , unless i find a money tree.. ha funds are streched. Thanks Deo
  3. I ran into the same thing. NYS DMV doesn't allow antique or historical trailer plates..argh... so my truck got historical plates and insurance from gulfway...no trailer yet but looking at some old tub dumps ..same idea you had. I need to go get your dump body soon too CML.. Thanks Deo
  4. your excess egt probe lead wire should be coiled up and loosly secured some where ... ie under the dash etc ..it needs to be the set length it came as to be calibrated correctly..if you secure it tightly ie ..zip tied tight to some thing, the vibration could be bad .. ie cause cracks ar shorts etc.. so just tape it or loosedly zip tie the excess.. hope this helps ya....where is your probe mounted?.. pre turbo will be more accurate and temps will be 300 degress hottter then post turbo and they will respond faster...all my probes go preturbo thanks Deo
  5. well you mention the higher egt after a fuel screw mod..maybe you turned it up too much..it doesn't take much...other wise ya need a bigger turbo... thanks deo
  6. well the b42 is a complete fuel oil tanker truck.... my 81 cab is bad ..windshield surround is rotten right thru..even on the inside of the interior, the floor is gone, the cab back is gone, both doors are rotted through on the bottom..so I am not sure i will putting that cab back on a another truck..i will be parting the b42 out ..and any members are welcome to take the other parts, including the rotton b81 cab really cheap..I will post pics when I get the truck in the near future.... I have aissue with my local town zoning any how so I can't have the other truck here fro too long ..no unregister vehicles alllowed..I had to plate all my projects this year just to work on them in my driveway argh ..so my b81 is insured and its not going on the road for a few years..its a mouse hotel costing me good bucks just to have insurance and a historical plate....oh and I only have a 1 acre property and 2 car gargae..so this is all out side in the weather work.. a tarp is the closest to a garage.... so not to easy to stash and save here... Thanks Deo
  7. I think I have found a VERY clean cab donor for my B-81SX..to put a B-42 cab onto it. Do I have to change the floor or any other stufff..any tips on doing it would be great. I heard to remove the doors before you lift, as you will, or can bend the doors if you leave em in there lifting... Do you use some 4x4 or 6x6 or straps.....etc Thanks Deo
  8. you said it at thr end of your post ......... if you are going through the trouble of swapping spokes to aluminum rims you might as well swap to hub piloted hubs and do your fronts hubs too..budd lugs suck ...i've had to cut plenty off in my time..hub pilots are very very big improvement over a budd setup... I think you just need to order new hubs and drums.ie outboard drums ...another improvement over spokes heehe.. any one have some advice here.. i want to swap my b 81 to hubpilot 24.5s too. later, Deo \x/ hillfolk!
  9. Gulfway Insurance from florida has th ebest I have heard about for historical trucks and race cars..my '58 b81 sx is $160 a year unlimited miles you can tow your own trailer etc etc the vehicel just can not be used fro commercial purposes ie for hire... here is the link : http://www.racensur.com/programs.htm hope this helps ya
  10. phew I just checked em on my b81 ..9.02 ratio if i am reading the right #.. this is a 58k set CRD 93 - 133-14 it was lowbed tractor for moving heavy cranes/ machinery etc.. man a 9.02 i bet 45mph would be high speed in this truck..end673 natural with quad box..what is the top overdrive gear ratio in the quad box?.. .68?... I will definately be swapping em out ... and putting in set of 4.17 or even 3.90 if i can get em.. i plan on runnning it with a 12v71 and allison 740..if it works out ok..heck even if i leave it mack engine and trans i still would like about 85mph top speed if possible..what ratio would i need then it has 11x24 rubber now i probably will swap to 24.5 tall radials... keep the thread going Thanks Deo
  11. Update.. I am checking out a 12v71 from a generator the end of this week...and I have a line on a Allison 740 trans rebuilt..so its looking good to have the parts to swap a 12v71 into my B81SX...If it works out i should be really cool.. later Deo
  12. man a flow boy with salt sounds bad.. I wouldn't do it if it was triple the rate. We do dump trailer work delivering salt and it is harsh on equipment. The trash haulers that run walking flooors that take trash out to pa and salt bad DESTROY their trailers.. No joke my friends heavy duty truck repair shop fixes them...so i've seen a lot of them the corrosion gets every where.. even the poppet valves get ruined... considering teh flowboy trilaers are very expensive..i would keep it on black top or asphalt etc...much much better on the equipment. I am not sure if this flow boy is yours or your bosses..but this is something to think about. I may be cheaper to buy a older dump trailer them to go through a flowboy damaged from salt. Just a grain of salt, Later Deo
  13. yeah where can you find info on the dt466 jake or engine brake..i have never seen one. that was one of the bad things about a dt 466 because it can't have ajake.. if they make one pleaae let me know i know a few who would like them. Thanks Deo
  14. mummn What year E7 is better to upgrade power wise?. i may have achance to get a decent '96 CL E7 427..etc etc.. I am thinking of plopping my B81SX body on the chassis ..would be nice.. thanks Deo
  15. Are you trying to insure it to work with commercially, or just to drive around for fun, go to show,s and sunday drives?... If your not working it commercially, and just looking to drive it around call Gulf Way insurance they are in the AHTS wheels of time magazine..should be less then $500 a year..if you want a phone # let me know I can dig it up.. Thanks Deo
  16. http://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/...Mack+drag+truck http://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/...&threadid=93450 It looks like iot will run awesome..eletronic E7 460, custom parts, twin turbos and new alison trans... later Deo
  17. if you wann make aset of twins..don't use two same sizer turbos.. ithink you know that..ones is bigger then the other..twins woirk real real good..they make both turbos work with less effort...and the spool is quicker and the boost cooler and higher psi..there is a group in pa somewhere at a colleg doing a e7 electronic in a b model with twins on it..its a tech school and its there project . one of the memebers is a memeber of The turbo diesel register the dodge cummins group and forum..the web site is http://www.turbodieselregister.com/ do a search for b model or something and it should pop up..in fact i am intersted my self..i will try to find it to and post here. later Deo
  18. mummn i would be tracking this guys butt down some how ....i feel for ya ..i've been dumb before..my self and had people takeadvantage of th esituation..not much any more..i have a lay away dela going on now but the kid has been paying me and i know where he lives and i had him sign a written agreement..etc..where in ohio i have abuddy in the cleveland area...if you need ahand let me know..as a police officer , I would try smallclaims, or file a report as larceny..you got to talk to apolice aganecy and give them the details..as it may not count yet..also theft of services ..if they fail to pay for the tow etc.. just athought. later deo
  19. ok thats more along what i thought..i know the inline pump is nice and for the cummins b series i know how to tweakem ..mess with the rack stop plate and d- valves etc.. so i figured th einline probably has similar stuff in it..mumn how compareable are the older v8s 2 valves e9..i heard they break often ..any ideas?..i may have a lead on some early 2valve v8s i think those were th e864 or 865's right? thanks still looking for a good repower for the b-81..its coming home this sat. later Deo
  20. mumn I coulda swore that my old boss's CL E9 500 had the inline bosch pump like a p7100 style...i t had a air throttle.. his was the last year they made the E9 I forgot if it was a '95 or a'98, but could be very wrong.. so the v pump was the later models and had bigger barrels so it has more power potential..cool..mummn ..tax return is coming I got to see if what that E9 I have seen has.. is that LT mack witheth E( the only B or L model that some one has swapped a E9 into?.. I haven't Heard of any E9's in a B model..only the older v8 engines. Does any one know of any others?...I wonder if a B-81sx has a radiator that will handle it.. That L model has asmall radiator too....i figure the trans has to be swapped...any ideas..? Thanks Deo
  21. hey did you save that link to the tranny info before the web page stopped working?..every time I try to go to www.oldmacksrus.com and go to info area, it has only a empty box with a red x in it next to the b model stuff. ie cab info, trans inf etc..if you click on the empty box no info comes up. The only info I am able to read is the photos page, and the links page...the link you posted above works ..but I don't know why it works..as I used to visit that page often, a few years back..i wanted to look up stuff for my mack and was upset when it wouldn't work. I figured that the web page was down...but when you posted a link that works,.. I scratched my head..any one know if its down or what? Thanks Deo
  22. mumn thats explained it well..i understood the idea..but i didn't know macks were speced this way inparticular. cool thanks Deo
  23. so your saying most macks have heavy overdrive ratios in the trannies and really low rear gears?..ie 4:30 plus..?..many of the r moels i have driven't maxed out 45-50 if i was lucky but they were dm and rm.. mummn the only "fast " ones i've seen were new ch or cls... I think my B81 has 5.50 or low rear gears and quad box..i guess 50 mph is about all i'd get..i would leik to try some 4;30 or sos but i think with 58k rears 460 or so is the highest you can go?..any idea. what about 65k rears how high can the ratio go?..... how much overdrive does a 20speed quad box have in it?. Thanks Deo
  24. oh man I let a superliner with e9 vee pump triaxle lowbed tractor go last year it was cheap..argh it was clean too, no rust and nice paint...full locker rears too argh...oh well I'll have to see what this other e9 has for a pump. later Deo
  25. what models had what type of inj pump.. i may look at a truck with apossible bad e9 500 hp in it i was thinking if i can get it cheap to swap into my '58 B81SX.that would be nice ..but I amsort scaryed at teh price of th eparts and if it was agood or bad engine..i am pretty familar witheth inline pump style inj pumps so what years or model of e9s came with them? thnaks deo
